I tried to search for the answer but I'm having a hard time finding it.

The RPM meters go past what my car can do. Does it just go higher than the max for looks? Or can you really push the car to what the meter goes up to?

Any and all help appriciated. Thanks

it goes up to the fuel cut off. no one really drives there car up there but for the games sake you can. autos change well before the cutoff.
with modifications you can make your needle climb higher.

In real life you can have your engine rev to whatever you want, you need a new ecu (or computer chip that maps out your fuel injection, as well as other functions). But then you'll just shoot a cylinder out of your hood or some bearings will sieze, etc.

In the game, with the help of balancing your engine, you can make your engine except higher rpm's without failing. But as we know, engines don't fail in GT3, so it is just always cut off by the game, to keep the rpm's realistic.

My friend has first generation DSM, and the fuel cut-off is actually 500rpms after the tachometer shows the redline. I don't know if he does if often, his car, whatever. Also, on a WRX board I visit, a few people raise their fuel cut-off about 250rpms. They say most companies probably put their fuel cut-offs well before a "true" redline. Again, their own thing. Oh! One final thing, fuel cut-offs simply limit raising the RPMs in that gear. If you somehow managed to do it, you might be able to slam it into first, while cruising at highway speeds. The ECU on electronically controls the limit. When a mechanical connection is made between the engine and the transmission, all hell would break lose in the example.

Also, as far as GT3 goes, not a whole lot of cars gain a whole lot from pushing it to the fuel-cut off. If you hit the cut-off, you just lost time. It's just about the same difference to shift right around redline.

RPM meter = tachometer

You car drive it past the redline by holding R2 on autos for those who don't know. Most cars on the game can be taken 500 RPMs higher than the tach shows.
