question about toyota

how come sometimes the models in the toyota have the word mark put in front of them, as in : MARK 4 supra, and today i was reading super street andthey said mark 2 mr2, so what is the signifigance of mark and what does it mean?

Its the model generation... Since each model had the same name but had different bodies over the years the mark is used to denote generation... mark IV supra is the latest version for example...

i just go by there model names e.g MA70, JZA70, JZA80 etc (lots of people dont know the code numbers so they go by Mk numbers)
i hate calling them by Mk numbers

"Mk" and "mark" isn't an official Toyota designation - it's just something we use to tell the generations apart. In essence, "they" don't use it, we do. If you don't like it, do something about it.

As M5Power pointed out, "mark" just means "version", or "attempt", or "generation".

The current Ford Fiesta is the sixth distinctly different model, and is referred to as the Mark 6 Fiesta, although officially it's just the "Ford Fiesta". But it distinguishes it from my Mark 3 Fiesta which is a totally different car.

That said, there's no such car as the Mark 1 Supra.

I always just use like 1st generation, 2nd generation, ect, sometimes using last generation.

So like I own a 1st gen 323(for the US market, not counting the GLC), my bro owns a 2nd gen 626, a 1st gen MX-6 GT, and a 1st gen Probe GT. My dad owns a 2nd gen RX-7 and 2nd gen Probe GT, and our main family mover is a 1st gen MPV.

Get it, got it, good.

I dont kno man i cant see toyota doin that ever never.

No, Toyota won't. No need for a new car with a new car price with '80s technology. That's what Kia is for.

Some would argue that the Lexus IS200/Toyota Altezza is the '00s equivalent of the Trueno - after all cars generally get bigger over time (the Mk5 Golf GTi is twice the weight of the Mk1, for example), and it's still a cheap-ish FR Toyota.

Kia has a surprisingly refreshing product lineup. I'd say Suzuki takes 'worst maker' status now.

Oh come on! Suzuki may have a couple of dodgy things in there. Hmm. Okay - mostly dodgy things.

But nothing compares to the Daewoo line up. A 19-year old Vauxhall/Opel Astra design and a 0.8 engined box with a racing stripe down the middle...

Agreed - Daewoo's Europe products are scary. But when GM bought Daewoo in 2001, they actually removed them from the US market, so we aren't fortunate enough to get Daewoos anymore.

Over here, Suzuki produces several outdated SUVs, a decent small car called Aerio, and two terrible new entries into the midsize sedan segment. They've got loads of potential, but they aren't doing anything with it.

Yesterday I saw a Suzuki Ascender, which I didn't even know existed.

I was just saying what Car and Driver claimed with the Sophia, which they said it was like paying a new car price for a '80s car.

I do agree that Suzuki is sort of misguided. At the car show, BMW had like 2 of thier motorcycles on display, but got more interest in the cars. Over at Suzuki, they had like 7 bikes on display, and they had all of the attention while the cars just sat there with 1 or 2 non-car people taking a look.

Isuzu makes the Ascender, which is their version of the Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL.

Like its GM twins, the Ascender's engine choices are a 275bhp 4.2L 6-cylinder and a 285bhp 5.3L V8.

Suzuki's 7-passenger SUV is known as the XL-7, and starts at a rather attractive $19600, and is, in fact, the cheapest thing with seven seats. Too bad it's so far behind anything in its segment...

Whoops, yeah, Isuzu... both companies are so forgettable that I mix them up all the time.

I remember back in, what was it...1999, when I saw the VehiCross at the car show, I was like "what an ugly concept car". Then I saw 1 on the streets and was like "eww, they actually produce that thing?"

I've seen like 3 ever.
