Hey,
I'ma grade 10 (2nd semester) student and I got some q's. Do you recommend taking art through out high school and then going on to automotive design and industrial design in uni? Or getting a bachelor of science mechanical engineer (bsme). Which would help me get a job wit like gm etc. as a car designer more.
Thanks

I'm not sure about schools in your location but for me I started rather late. I did some art classes starting in High school and eventually when I got to Community College I was doing my G.E. and they required art stuff to transfer to my major. Around the time I was at CC I visited Art Center of Design in Pasadena, Ca. (near L.a.) and they recommended I go do the Industrial design major in my area. My first love will always be Car Design but I am starting to like Industrial Design more and more. The next step after I.D. could be Art center doing car design but I'm just focused on now getting through I.D. My suggestion is now that we have the internet check around I suppose you could go to IDSA.org or Core77.com They might have some stuff on Car design there. Hope that helps.

Hmm... I knew you were going to ask that... There isn't really a short answer to it because it's really broud and subjective. An example I suppose could be my project from last semester where I redesigned a watercooler so that it would be more designed and thought out. Say for example the 5 gal. bottle on top, you have to pick it up which is really heave for most people so in mine I made it so that you don't have to bend down and pick it up. It's a collection of things from solving problems in things around us to make our lives better to just re styling stuff that you buy. I'm still trying to figure out what I.D. is my self and it's a lot more complex than I thought. Hopefully this gives you a little insite to what I.D. is? You can also check out IDSA.org to get more info too.

I suppose it could border in areas of that... I.D. is kind of like the general collection of stuff in a way because when some I.D. get a job they go into... interface design or stuff like display design for stores? Maybe that kind of stuff. I've heard people because CAD jockeys too.
