How many of you with wheels use the clutch? Not sure how many other wheels have a clutch but I know there is others.
I know it doesn't work like it should eg: flat shifting *power shifting*
But do you still use it? When I first got my wheel I was missing practically every gear *had a problem with taking my foot off the accelerator completely*
but now I feel my skills would be at a disadvantage if were to no longer use a clutch..
so I was wondering if people tried adapting to the fault with the clutch *for some sort of added realism* or simply ignored it and used the paddles instead?

*No hate towards paddle users intended I'm aware of the benefits of using paddles over the H pattern and clutch*

I use the paddles, as much as I'd love to use the H-Shifter with the clutch, it's one part that GT5 failed in implementing properly hard, the clutch acts as more of an on off switch rather than a pedal which is gauged on how hard you hard you push the pedal.

For drifting I use the shifter without the clutch. I DO sometimes try to use it but I'm still working on drifting with the wheel.

When I'm grip racing, I mostly use the clutch except for supercars and cars that shift too quick.

I don't find the clutch THAT bad but it does have issues.

A lot of people use the clutch while drifting, its not that hard once you get used to it. What you have to remember is that you can't shift as in "press clutch and shift at the same time" on GT5, you have to kinda press the clutch first and then put the gear in. And the hard think about it is to knowing when to do it and how fast you can do it. If you can master that then you should be fine using it ;)

Same here i don't use the clutch often when drifting. i use it sometimes to get out of some risky situations, like when i put on to much gas then i will usually switch back to sequential shifting with the h style shifter after regaining grip. i do feel like when you use the sequential modes you can have some what of an advantage being able to keep the gas on while shifting up or down through your drifts. But i don't use the paddles that often mainly just to get back into sequential mode with the h style shifter.

sorry for any bad grammar lol i am bad with that :dopey:

Your Avatar's breasts bounce when the driver is abrupt with the clutch

I use the clutch, and as Ono said, "You have to know when and how fast you can shift" is spot on.
It varies by car on how fast you can shift, but once you find a car that suits you, shifting with clutch will be easy and fun. :)

I just picked up the g27. I was using a Logitech Momo wheel. The Momo wheel is probably one of the best drift wheels I think. Its a 270 degree wheel, which is great for control. But it does have its issues. Mostly compatibility. Can't switch up any buttons. All you have is e brake, start and reverse. the shifter doesnt work, only the paddles. But its a sequential shift anyway, so thats whatever. No clutch. Its stout though. being such a short lock to lock, I've slammed it pretty hard. Its lasted three years of abuse and just now started losing it.
Anyway. Back on track here. I use the clutch and H shifter like crazy now! Honestly, the only time you should be dragging the clutch is at launch, otherwise you should be using it like an on off switch. The g27 clutch doesnt feel bad, I think I may see if there is a way to stiffen it just a bit. I only have issues right now getting used to making sure I slot all the way into gear before releasing the clutch. I do tend to try and do it all to fast I think. Now if I could just get used to the whole 900 degree Lock too lock. That and the lack of a whine is what throws me off most.

I was actually thinking of a way to soften the clutch. Since there is only about 1 - 1 1/2 of actual pressure sensitive degrees on the meter itself, maybe if you rework the gears. The meter gear should extend farther and the pedal gear should be very small. Now if you line them up, it would allow smoother clutch control. :]

The loud boom should've made up for the lack of gear whine lol. If you order the V2 Nixim mod, it coms with a stiffer brake and clutch spring. A lot of people have said the clutch spring is too stiff but some like it.

i use it but i try has hard as i can not to
its just a big habbit from driving a real car and having a cockpit

It's fun for me to use the clutch and I use a clutch kick and weight shifting flick maneuver more than just ripping the e-brake. Then again, I primarily drift a Volvo 240 so I have enough weight to whip around that the e-brake isn't needed too often.

If you really want some fun get a Ska-G/Hakosuka/Kenemeri Skyline, Toyota Celica 1600GT, Isuzu Bellett GT-R, or similar classic Japanese car, move your shifter to a RHD position, and do some clutch kicking on Eiger Nordwand.

What he said.

I love my clutch on the G27 and use it all the time. even in racing.

Started drifting with my wheel a few months ago but havent had much practice in total. I started with the paddles but found that they never stayed in the same place while drifting so i moved to H-shifter and found it much easier. In my opinion it is easier to use H-shifter with the clutch if you can change gear quickly... But really its up to what feels best for you.

I dont have time for clutch while drifting :sly: all my energy is on the wheel. But I would love to use proper clutch, since real life drifts need's clutch!

I only stay in one gear most of the time. So yes when i use the wheel to slide I do use the clutch.

I have a T500rs and TH8rs.

I use the clutch at all times (racing or drifting). I use the T500 shifter paddles for my E-brake..

With practice, it works pretty well..
