What type of headsets do the guys use online? Stereo jack or USB? Do I plug in to the TV or the PS3? Thanks in anticipation. :)

Ummm... wireless? I'm using the bluetooth that PlayStation made. It's the older model.

I'm picking up Sony's virtual 7.1 surround sound headset when it comes it next week. Right now I use the official bluetooth.

Full headsets are nice... but I like a stand alone bluetooth earpiece so that I can adjust voice chat volume independent of race volume. Or when chatty Cathy shows up with their music blasting/babies crying/dog barking mid-race I can just take the earpiece off and not be forced to listen to 'em.

I use a wired mic. Definitely some pros and cons.

For starters I can plan online for 12 consecutive hours and not have to worry about charging my mic. Also, my mic is always super clear.

Downside though, is that I can only be a certain distance away from the TV. Not really an issue while in my racing chair, but a problem for other games.

Exactly why I got one. I would forget to charge my bluetooth all the time. I can adjust the volume on the wired headset I have. Best $20 bucks I spent in a while.

I currently use bluetooth. Its a BT headset, its cool because I can listen in while making a cup of tea or going to the bog :)
Sound quality is good but occasionally gets fuzzy, I want to try a wired connection soon.

Sony Ericsson VH110.
This works just fine. The one and only downside is your ear wants to fell off after few hours of continuous racing.

I use the turtle beach PX21 headset. I believe the cord is 15-20' long. The headset works for both ps3 and xbox. And best of all my roommates can't hear any of the games I play. I just blast it as loud as I want in these bad boys!

The one above when I want to talk during online racing (Bluetooth on PS3 connection).

Since I share the room, even when not talking I use this kind of earphones:

Plugged in the screen this time.

Bigger earphones fell a lot of my steering stand and did break + after 2 hours of racing during summer the smaller earphones make you less hot.

if you want to use it also on a Win7 PC your mostly better of with a USB device. (They changed some tuner settings in WIn7 and your micro "might" be very silent).
I prefer cable ones, but bluetooth etc. is mostly fine.

I use this, it plugs in so I never run out of batteries, I rarely use it however since I got it with the PSMove and I don't like talking to people online

4 GAMERS NC-2 , wired headset , much better than wireless, they have a 4m cable , USB , I had wireless and just couldn't keep up . I payed a lot of money for these around £65 and that was in the sale reduced from £99 , better than the turtle beach that are priced around £70. You can get them from GAME online for £30 but in their shop they are £90 . If you want a decent set of head phones get these , at that price they are a steal , good luck ;)

Thanks for the advice. I reckon I'm gonna just get a wired set minus mic. I'll give the online chatting a miss. (Probably a good idea anyway, 'cos with some of the online ot-track behaviour I'd most likely say things I shouldn't. )I currently use the small 'plug in your ear' type & apart from crappy sound, they become uncomfortable after a while.

I use the mic on my turtle beach PX21's. I know the turtle beaches are made for FPS and they work very well for those, but the cars sound a lot better IMO and the mic is pretty good. But if you just want to chat online then you're better off with one of the above mics, as 60-80 bucks would be a lot for just a mic.

The thing I don't like about Bluetooth is that it picks up way too many outside noises unlike the wired headset.

+1, any decent wired headphones for gaming will have B/G switch ;)

Triton AX720
USB headsets are superior as they very rarely jump and skip like the Bluetooth headsets..

Tritton ax720, great clear comms & brilliant sound ;) had a pair of Turtle Beach P21's before & these sound so much better.
Recommend a decent wired headset over a Bluetooth set any day :)

I was thinking about getting these but eventually chose the PX21's because they weren't as expensive.

They are more than definately worth there value!

I also have these but they are used for PC Gaming.. they can be used with the PS3 though..

Good headsets dont come cheap though.. £180 brand new and I think they are usually sold in the states for $240/$280
