I'm thinking of buying GT5.

Do you need a wheel to play?
If you don't , is it much better with it or is it ok with the controller?

Thanks,

Most aspects are fine with a controller. Only 1 or 2 things need a wheel, like the Vettel Challenge, but people have done that with a controller fine.

different strokes for different folks......get a wheel if you have the space and resources. If you can't or don't a controller will work. Either way they both have a learning curve and will take time to get your settings dialed-in.

Yeah most of GT5 I passed with controller.

Probably you can enjoy more using an steering wheel!!, and I think that it's the best form to pass Vettel Challenges and other events...

But the most important thing for me, is to enjoy driving, and if you want to enjoy, buy a wheel.

I'm thinking of buying GT5. Cool its a fantastic game

Do you need a wheel to play? No you can also play with the controller
If you don't , is it much better with it or is it ok with the controller? Is ok with the controller, but for a complete simulation experience the wheel is the best option

Thanks,

👍

Personally I do not have a wheel and if you are not skilled as I'm not it gets really hard with the Vettel Challenge and some of the Special Events.

Okay, i think i will get a wheel. But i don't want a mad expensive one worth like 300 euro. What's the cheapest?

DFGT on ebay or Amazon

I use a controller, they are fine and if used right can be faster than a wheel..

CARCRASH
DFGT on ebay or Amazon

This^

I got mine for $119aud and that included the courier charge! Try the logitec shop, cheap as chips.

Definately get one mate. Not only will you enjoy your driving but you will also shave large chunks of time off your lap times 👍

get a wheel. It's the full experience. Plus it's harder to be competitive on a remote. Once you get good, you will realize what your missing and how that guy with the wheel in front of you manages to stay consistent while your struggling with a 1/2 inch of input/travel and your thumbs.

If you can save up for a mid grade wheel, a dfgt is only ok to me, I really want a fanatec wheel if I decide to get other racing games like iracing.com, however a dfgt will definately get the job done

Controller is manageable but definately not as fun and real as a wheel

👍 This. I've been playing the GT series since the PSone days. I got a wheel just after I bought GT5. Honestly I wish I'd done it years ago, It's made such a massive difference to my enjoyment of the game, maybe a few seconds a lap faster here and there, nothing really to speak of, but it adds a whole new level to any driving game, especially this one. Get a wheel, you won't regret it.

If you are a good driver the controller is just as effective over short races but I find the wheel much more comfortable to use and therefore more consistent. If you can grab a DFGT its the best option overall when you consider price and performance.

Wheel physics is better as there is no 'auto face the correct way' after spin assist.

But with the right tune you can be as fast on either, but tyres will wear out faster on pad, due to lack of 'smootheness'.

Some cars stock are quicker to driver on pad, others on wheel.

If you want to play a video game, use a controller. If you want a driving experience, get a wheel. ;) And yes, a Logitec Driving Force GT will do fine.

Thanks,

We don't have trouble not having a wheel of our own for competitions... Either way is okay as long as it stays satisfactory to you, all up to you whether you buy it or not considering your economic status.

The only disadvantage concerning a wheel is the countersteer; especially with the DFGT. The wheel often doesn't spin fast enough for you to hold a drift, nor, in some cases, correct an accidental slide. Or that may just be me:ouch:

For precision driving/racing, the DFGT is the better option.

For drifting, I would recommend a 270° wheel(it only turns 1/4 a revolution each way)for ease of countersteer.

Then again, I don't really know much:dunce:

Definitley easier to correct a slide with a controller than the DFGT ^^^^^

I won't get into the "which is faster" debate but I can tell you the experience is completely different with a wheel and it is much more immersive.

200 degree rotation is way easier to control slides than 900. Every time I have tried 900 and the wheel spins through my hand, i lose connection with where the steering rack is at compared to the wheel and lose control. 200 is fine though. reacts quick enough.
