dual layer dvds *sometimes* add unnecessary stress to the drive but it's mostly in older consoles and they won't damage it. There's a possibility though that it won't read properly. The consoles also aren't too happy when playing dvd games ripped to cdr because the drive has to spin on and off at high speeds with cdr whereas the dvdrs spin really slowly but never stop.
