I just say Merry-go-round.

Really burns the drivers of 'em up. "Sweet Lamborghini Merry-go-round."

On a side-ish note: I've heard people say "Lam-boar-jee-nee". I've never heard of that before, is this a foreign way.

And it's really annoying when people say "Nee-sarn".

It's pronounced Nish-karn Shky-line.:p

As for the pronunciation, I have heard people pronouncing Lamborghini like that. Its just plain freaking weird. :irked: But I have heard worse......... :indiff:

Okay, maybe I'm the one who pronounce it wrongly then. :guilty: I would usually pronounce "Lam-bor-ghee-ni" or something like that. But to be honest, nobody has the same opinion in terms of pronunciation. I was wondering, how would you guys pronounce Nissan and Subaru? I would probably say "Nis-sun" and "su-ba-ru" and yet I heard on some commercials they pronounce it as "nis-san" and/or "sub-be-ru" or something similar..... :irked:

Celica: Ce-li-kuh
Countach: Cown-tock
Murcielago: Mur-ci-lago
Porsche: Por-sh
Audi: Ow-Dee

They aren't all right, but it's how I say it.

That's not how they pronounce it at the factory. Lam-bor-ghee-ni is exactly how Ferruccio and his son pronounced it because that was how they pronounced their last name.

I pronounce it like Top Gear does.

Koenigsegg - Kown-en-zeg (technically Ko-en-ig-zeg, but you say it so fast, they run together)
Porche - Pour-sha
Gallardo - Guy-are-dough
Murcielago - "Mercy-el-ah-go" (another one where saying it fast it might sound different because it runs too fast.)
Bugatti - Depends. Sometimes "Bew-gaw-tee", sometimes "Bew-gat-tee".
Veyron - Sometimes I say "Vay" or "Veh", sometimes I say "ron" or "rin".
Audi - "Ow-dee"

Also, every now and then, I'll slip up and call Volkswagen by it's proper "Volks-vawg-en" pronunciation since it's such a fun accent to fake.

I also didn't know Countach was "Coon-tash" until yesterday.

And apparently, Top Gear says "Peugeot" like "Persio". Persia with an "O", but I'm still curious how it's pronounced.
 
I'm pretty sure the 'r' in the Top Gear pronunciation of Peugeot is just part of their accents; shouldn't the first half be pronounced about the way it's spelled? Sort of a 'pew' sound, but without so much 'w'.

I always thought Bugatti was more of a boo-gah-tee sort of thing, myself. That's how I've always heard it pronounced.

Gallardo - Guh-yar-dough (one spanish class about 12 years ago, but I do remember the ll=y thing)

Audi - I always see the 'A' and the 'u' as separate syllables, which just so happen to run together when you pronounce it to sound similar to-but not identical to-'ow'. I don't know how accurate that is and it's probably influenced by the tiny bit of Japanese I've picked up, but there you go.

Thats a good way to describe it, since it's almost an "r" sound. I was going to say it's kind of half way between "er" and "oh."
 
I think Peugeot is pronounced per-zjoe with a less heavy r sound, it's like the ir in bird or errr sound.

Wikipedia has a good handy phonetics spelling that illustrates how to pronounce it better than I can.
 
Peugeot is pronounced "Puh - joe", although the "uh" is more like the German Umlaut "ü" (ue), which is hard to explain in text form.

It's basically the same with Citroen, "See (or sea) - troen", a bit like explained with the british "sir".

Porsche is pronounced "Porsh-e" not "Porsh-a", the e like in "end", or "entitled". Try to say "Porschend" without the "nd" (and with a not americanized "r").

Audi is pronounced "Ou (like in "ouch") - dee".

At least, that's how the Germans were also pronouncing it when I was there.
 
Germans are normally quite upset if you do not pronounce Porsche correctly. But, to be frank, if you can't pronounce it properly in the first place, you don't belong within 20 feet of one.



All that being said, has anyone figured out how to pronounce Huayra, yet?

Like I said, try to pronounce it like "Porshend" but without the nd.
It's a pretty "hard" German "e". Unless I missunderstand what you mean with the "ah" at the end.


Don't have sound on my PC right now, but I guess they say it there quite often.

I heard the Italian pronunciation of Huayra on this website. The best way of showing the pronunciation in text would be "Hu-why-ra", which happens to be the way that i've always pronounced it.
 
the pronunciation of a name depends almost purely on the country your in. i still find myself wincing at top gear guys mangling non-british names. course, they could also be subtly "taking the mickey", cause the ones the mangle the most happen to be the french ones
