questions about fanatec gt2 and the crs elite wheel

Hi everyone,

I've sold my G27 in order to replace it by a fanatec wheel, by the time I wanna order the GT2 clubsport package, I realized that The CSR elite wheels and pedals are also compatible with the PS3.

and just wanna know is there any difference except the appearance?

I believe you're talking about the CSR wheel, because CSR Elite wheel is a totally different wheel and probably a way better than the CSR wheel. There isn't much difference in CSR vs GT2. Definately the looks is the most noticable. CSR doesn't have back illuminated buttons. On the homepage, it also says that CSR has wireless connection to Xbox360. (Probably can use a RF dongle like Turbo S).
 
CSR is in the same league as T500RS. Meaning it´s night and day compared to a GT2 wheel.

No. You got it wrong. CSR is same thing as GT2 but with different wheel(rim). CSR elite is in the same league as T500RS.
 
GT2 also has wireless conection to Xbox. Built in dongle I presume.
 
Tough to say which to choose right now as the csr wheels.havent started reaching customers yet. Feature wise the seem very very comparable. IIRC Thomas from fanatec has stated that the csr uses essentially the same base as the gt series of wheels with some minor electronic upgrades.
I believe the major difference is going to be the feel of the rim. I cant speak for the csr but the full alcantara wrap of the gt2 is fantastic.

It shouldnt be long until the first units are in customer hands and some feedback starts rolling in.

Also, faulty GT2 issues, Fan noise etc should have been addressed in the new wheels.

I would go for the newest iteration of the wheel.
 
For the same price, it's normally smarter to go with the new as spagetti was saying. And, unless you like the feel of the alcantra(which I realllllllly do), then the new one is for you i would have to say.

ISR says the rim has a whole new feel to it compared to the GT2. Not because of material, but overall affect.

I dont mind my paddles. Loads better than i had on the carrera. Maybe its just the plates.
I dont remember if the csr wheel is using the same adjustable paddles as the csw f1 and gt rims are using. But those look hot!

But, you forgetting one thing. New products bring potentially new problems. Fanatec was having supply/quality problems with a fairly limited product portfolio. Now that the product line has essentially tripled we may see an influx of new problems.
I hope not. Fanatecs products are my choice. Personally i have had no issues with them. I had to glue my std pedals but figured that out on my own before i was a member here.

In favor of the GT2:

The GT2 has a full Alcantara wrap, while the CSR just has grips mixed with rubber and plastic. The wheel rim is probably better on the GT2. The backlit buttons are cool, but largely unnecessary. The GT2 is compatible with the optional USB RF dongle for wireless PS3/PC use. That's still an unknown for the CSR.


In favor of the CSR (non elite):

While the CSR shares much of the internal design of the GT2, it is said to feature improved electronics and enhanced force feedback. The paddle shifters look to be much nicer. That's a sore spot on previous Fanatec wheels. The buttons on the wheel are actual buttons, not "hidden" buttons blended into the design. It may not look as realistic, but in real world use I bet it's better.

If I was cross shopping these wheels today I'd lean towards the CSR.
 
Yeah I think I'm going with the CSR. I'm just worried about the "Before October 15th" shipping date. Do you think that means they're shipping before that day or that it will reach customers?
 
Wardez, trying to nail down the exact date of arrival is a prescription for disappointment.

Yeah... I'm not banking on it or anything, but just trying to see when I might be able to expect it.

Hoping for the best. We should realize this is an inherintly European product and FM4's coming out later than our Oct. 11th NA release. So it wouldn't be surprising to have to wait till later October to finally have it on the rig.
 
It does say, " Delivery before October 15." So that should mean to YOU.:crazy:

What I did, was order the GT2. Somehow I really don't like the CSR's design :(

And Elite was way out of my budget anyway so it was pretty much the same. No waiting, no "children's diseases", and that LOVELY alcantara!! <3

Been playing now for two days with the GT2 (switched from G25) and loving every second of it!

Oops! Haha. Didnt even realize you were talking elite wheel.
The elite wheel is a completely new base design being shared with the new clubsport wheel.
The major differences to note between the csw and csr elite are as follows:
Clubsport has:
Quickrelease rim allowing rim switches without powering down the wheel or any tools
F1 rim and gt rim announced with more to follow
Csr:e has
Xbox compatability
Swappable rim with tools. System needs to be powered down for switches
Only the forza rim announced but more coming

There really is no comparison on the gt2/ elite wheels. On paper the elite is going to be a better product but since they are not in customer hands yet its hard to say.

Shaun, I would get the Gt3 rs wheel and CPS set for now if I were you , unless you want forza4 then get gt2- more expensive,
then when the CSR elite with "worm-drive" in the middle ( it is better than t500 and it's on the FRex / ECCI Trackstar 600 class according to ISR)
sell the gt3 rs wheel. keep the clubsport pedal and use it with the new wheel.

i am very very close of doing it my self, but the only thing stopping me is the fanatec H- shifter, yuck:yuck:. and that "chopstick" mount.

I love the gt3 rs too, and gt2 is not available anymore here in oz.
get the elite with the hotswap wheel and get anything you want for the wheel.

The shifter is a little cheap but is holding up well and the chopsticks aren't all that bad. There is slight movement but it does the job rather well.
 
The Logitech G25 and G27 shifters are definitely nicer looking and better built. The Fanatec design comes off as pretty chintzy. In use, I actually quite like the feel of the Fanatec shifter and prefer it to the loose, vague shifter my G25 had. It's why I took the plunge on the beefed up CSR shifters since we still don't have an official release date for the ClubSport Shifter.
 
We made some small changes on the shifter but the difference is quite noticable.
  • "heavier" movement feeling
  • less noise
  • less resistance
  • better material for more sturdiness
  • better haptics and the feeling of an all metal knob

Thanks for the info. Good to know. I bought the CSR Elite Pedals instead of the shifter this time. Those will be next on my list though.

Hi, for the shifter, i've told HR to produce a shifter adapter for the fanatec, caz our shifter mount is only compatible with the g27. this will not be a big prob
 
so basically the CSW and and the gt2 are the same, while the CSR elite is few grades higher?

PS: Do anyone know when the csr e will be selling?

I love my gt2.
With that said tho, I would wait until some hands on reviews start rolling in on the csr line.
But you would be very pleases with the gt2 wheel. I might upgrade to the csw eventually but am sticking with my gt2 for now.

I would wait for the CSR Elite. It must be an improvement over the GT2....even if just minor, plus it is the same price.

Also looks better IMO
