Here's a thread to post your opinions and thoughts about the new feature.

Quick Match is a set of pre-made races that online participants can join in and race. It's menu features are different from an online lobby. It's similar to online playlists from Multiplayer games.

Tried this a few times, turns out it is just a demolition derby.
Lost count how many times got pushed off track, pushed into pit wall, tunnel entrance etc.
If you like to have a race stay away, complete waste of time. Unfortunately you can not choose who you race against.

Great idea, terrible execution. Apart from being nearly unplayable due to instability, the other racers are completely blind :censored:s who seek to ruin the race for the clean racers. The car choices are completely unbalanced; some cars are clearly better than others, and the fact that SRF is forced on is the icing on the cake for my feelings on this new game mode.

Completely agree, this is a bad addition, the majority of people can not drive, they ram you take bad lines hilting you in the process, just not fun at all. To top it off you seem to be the only one getting the 5 second penalty, for being hit by others.

If you want to race clean and have fun, join one of the many races on GT planet don't use this demo derby quick match, you will only end up throwing your controller at your TV!.

I thought I was going to be the only one with severe negative feedback.

Yep, my experience entirely:

1) The lag is just beyond dreadful
2) The lack of race etiquette is staggering
3) There should be qualifying for grid position
4) The races are too short
5) There are no penalties for corner cutting
6) Someone lags into you or you get hit by wreckage and you cop a Ramming penalty
7) As already stated this is nothing more than a "Demolition Derby"

I will not be using this feature ever again.

PD you have excelled yourself by introducing this piece of garbage! Just when we all thought you could not sink any lower into being an "Arcade Game" fiasco you surprise us all and introduce the next lower level.

PD I would strongly suggest you stop using the logo "The Real Driving Simulator" and adopt something like "Arcade Game" for 8-14 year olds on hand controllers.

I should say I have not had this much fun online since I played Motor Storm that I got free with my first PS3 :-(

I did 2 GT500 races with no lag, and the only time anyone did something stupid was one person weaving on a straight.

I don't know why anyone wanted this feature back in the first place. In GT5 Prologue, the worst thing about online lobbies was that you couldn't control who was in them. When it was announced that in GT5 we could have control over who comes in & out, mostly everyone was pleased as all the bad drivers could be kicked out &/or blocked.

Most online drivers are bad, obviously therefore matching up with complete strangers is gonna mostly always yield a bad experience. Someone somewhere is saying "I told you so!"

Tracks should be always in shuffle, or at least have a selection of about 4 or 5 tracks per event setup so it doesn't keep limited to the same track all the time, after you race on it 5 times with the same car selection things get boring. Yeah I know that the events are due to end next week, and new ones will come, but still the idea of driving the same tracks all the time for a whole week is a bit of a turn down.

But I like it, I had more fun just clicking on it and joining a lobby than actually hunting for a good open lobby where people are actually racing rather than messing around the tracks, or doing hour long practices before races. Plus not having to deal with people using the same overpowered cars for it's PP range in open lobbies, everyone got the same chance to win since the cars are pretty much similar in performance, is all about how you drive it.

I find it pretty hard to tell whether the drivers are actually bad, or whether it's just the awful netcode making them weave all over the track. Given the speed at which some of them are darting around, I seriously suspect the netcode.

GT5P worked fine for what it was. The terrible thing was that it was the only option, just as it was terrible in GT5 that the only option was trawling through public lobbies to try and find a decent room. Having both is better, at least then you can choose which terrible online system to be annoyed by.

And besides, now that it's in there's a spark of hope that they might improve it. They could start by giving more options than four (bloody hell, GT5P had more than four races at a time), and more than one that doesn't have SRF locked on.

The format, having a quick race, choose a car whatever is ok in principle.
It is just badly laid out, they have not thought it through properly.
I am not really familiar with computers and you could be right about netcode ( whatever that is ), people ramming me off track or into pit wall I suspect is done by the individual but will apologise if I am wrong.

Those events are mainly done for casuals (hence srf and whatever help you want to use) and those who just want to have not too serious quick fix , without tinkering with cars, settings ... and from that standpoint PD nailed those events. If you want racing by your rules /with your car / this and that ... then there's open lobby. Simple.

In two days I've had 7 matches . Day one 3 in 500pp event and yesterday 4 in "compact car event" (which for a starter crashed/disconect for a few times but once i got in , it was ok ) . All races were more or less close pack racing where whole pack (10-14) cars ended within 8-10 seconds. While there was some rubbing and bumping involved in every race , events were actually good arcade fun , once you can get over "wtf ? you bumped me ? a****** " attitude and that comes from a person who hates any contact while racing.

For events I've participated , I've choose cars with least pp (mazda , 207) and I've finished 2-5 (out of 10-14) players ,so I think available cars are quite matched or "catch up" handicap is doing good job in making race a thrilling experience and that is the point of those events. Not , who choose better pp car / less aid-s / better tune /got bigger *****...

As I understand ,events will get rotated (tracks ,cars) once/twice a month , because current events will expire on 23.9.14.

Good job PD

ADD[19.9.]: Spend 2 h in 500 pp lobby yesterday and what a blast. There was 5-6 of us who stayed in lobby for whole 2 h (others players up to 12-15 changed ) and after few races when we get to know each other , it was more or less a clean racing with respect of each others driving line. There was few "hotshots" who tried to side bump, bombdive or use any of other creative techniques to win ... but they ended in quitting lobby after race or two when they find themselves on the back of a pack.:O

ADD2[20.9]: Another day ,another lobby > this time choose GT500 and contrary to usual GT500 lobys , when all you see is Honda HSV and nothing else (no doubt it is most competititve car) , car selection that players used was quite varied. Again I decide to use a car with lovest pp (SC430) and have a good catch-up with folks that drove higher pp cars (HSV,GTR,NSX...). There has been some bumps ,but most of the racers (in front) were driving fair and respectfull.

RANT: Matchmaking mechanism is kind of "rusty".In "compact car" and "GT500" events I ussually first have 2 disconections (while searching for other players) ,but once matchmaking "catch up" and find me a lobby full of players , matchmaking is smooth. I'm sure, PD will "fine tune" online code in the future.

Sorry...didn't see this thread when I posted..

I'm feeling lucky that I'm racing with all Japanese gamers, they're all fair and clean and I do the same with them to show respect. (regarding my country flag but I actually reside in the Philippines).

I'm playing from France, and when I went on Quick Match other drivers were trying to ram me all the time. PD need to make it a penalty offence to collide with other drivers.

For me, the inclusion of quick match has seen me drive in my first online races, and other than the many bugs, I've loved it.

I've been playing since the original GT came out (missed 4) and only ever raced against the clock after beating the slow AI, but after having a few good, clean and close races in this quick match option, I'm hooked.

As Greg0r said above, once you get a few like minded people on the track who try to win cleanly and respectfully, the bumper car drivers end up at the back, soon give up and move on.

(I think I raced against you today Greg0r. Enjoyable races.)

kind of a useless feature i think. nobody really asked for it... and if you're gonna play gran turismo online you'd think that you'd wanna find a good and organized race.

It's another option, even if you didn't ask for it. Why look a gift horse in the mouth?

For us casual gamers out here though, there's no faffing about looking for the right cars for the open lobby races or messing with tunes etc. Pick a car and go and as a sub game, dodging the loony demolition derbyers in quick match.

Each to their own I guess.

I'll have a look at the open lobby again though. I do prefer clean races.

Problems I'm having are poor stability (getting disconnected mid race and such), terrible race etiquette, and limited selection of cars and tracks. I mean it took PD 10 months to release this? 10 months to release what they already had in GT5P from 2008?

I mean they do have a good foundation going, but why stop now? The Super GT event should include ALL Super GT cars if they're going to include the OP HSVs. They should also include ALL the Super GT tracks and such. With the amount of race series Gran Turismo has at it's disposal, they could make quick matches that could cater almost everybody (except NASCAR unless everyone's ghosted).

My old self tried this just because it seemed to be getting slammed so hard. (I have never played the on-line stuff before) It
wasn't so bad. Got pounded on by some idiots, got clean races out of folks so inclined. I enjoyed it. I even won a few times, so that is a bonus. There is some strange stuff going on in this gig, cars slide through you without hitting you. What's up with that? Ran into the wall a few times trying to dodge things that weren't going to affect me...
Besides this didn't cost me anything.

Overall I think Quick Match is a good feature. I never successfully played in the online lobby before because trying to determine which room which I'm actually eligible for (from list of 100s of available rooms), and then waiting ages for the room owner to start the race was just too much hassle. Now the server just slots me into the next suitable race and the car specs are all matched on 'a level playing field' so to speak.
Having said that, PD needs to make the game automatically detect those drivers who are proactively ramming into others to push them off the track -- and not to penalise the victim who is being rammed! Also the bad drivers should build up points for bad behaviour, and too many points should mean they are barred for a day or two before they are allowed back in to the Quick Match.

I think the times where the cars go transparent and drive throughable (?) are because they're at a weird angle or coming back onto the track to the racing line. Probably PD's attempt at trying to stop some of the ramming.

Cars close to the racing line or running at similar speeds stay solid. I think that's what it is anyway as the loonies who don't bother braking so that they can try and T-bone you drive straight through you, but if the speed's are close, small shunts are possible. Bide your time with the drivers who think shunting you off track is acceptable and use it to your advantage. You know they'll try and hit you so sell them a dummy and get past that way. Not exactly good racing practice but very entertaining when you see them fly off track for being over zealous trying to hit you.

I had loads of races last night where I won from the back row doing that anyway. A lot of the time, I'd deliberately do a slow start so I end up at the back and chasing. It's a bit boring being in front.

I spent a couple of hours racing on Fuji last night. It was like an endurance race with a piss and tea break every 5 minutes plus a bit of credits thrown in.

I wish they had some 5 lap races though. Three's a bit short but I suppose it keeps the wait time down for the next races.

The idea is great but nothing beats a room well organized where the dirty drivers are quickly ejected. They really have to do something with the rammers (kind of cleanracing reputation for each drivers ?)

What is stupid is the ridiculously huge and cartoonish slipstream, once PD stops reading sci-fi manga and fix that slipstream, people won't be forced to weaving on the straight if they don't want to lose their position.

Yeah. That's the reason I haven't done anymore quick races since the 2 I mentioned.

This cartoonish slipstream happened in GT5P too, it took quite awhile until they fixed it, at least there's hope.
GT6 is a permanent déjà vu about mistakes of previous editions, it's like PD don't have memory and they repeat their mistakes over and over.

[edit]BTW, as there's no qualifying, if everyone could be in ghost mode in the first lap, this would avoid a lot of troubles regarding dirty players.[/edit]

Well, it's fine most of the time because you can set it to the new "real" setting when making your own room. They just need to have it set on "real" for quick match.

Yet ANOTHER feature with loads of potential, only to be completely ruined by the geniuses at PD.

I am now CONVINCED that the entire line up of staff at PD have no idea that there are even other drving/racing sims out there.

I'm sure they know they are out there. They frankly don't care, we keep giving them money. Why should they change their behaviour if we continue to reward them for it.
The quick matches are really jacked up. The servers don't seem to find other racers to add to races with only 2 cars remaining. Although sometimes I wonder if that is such a bad thing.
