Anyone ever seen one of these in person? I had no idea one of these things even exsisted. And for a little less than $30k its an interesting choice for someone who wants to be unique. Its engine is the same 4.6L Mustang Cobra engine...which means you have a billion performance parts at your disposal to make it even faster. :sly: I think I might like this thing...

A couple have been spotted in the spotters' thread. I've never seen one but they're relatively more common in Southern California than even most other exotics.

Seen a few of them round the Bay Area, since there's a dealership on Van Ness Ave in San Francisco.
I believe the car was originally designed for De Tomaso before the company went bump, and Qvale took the design over.
Kind of odd looking I think, looks like a Fiat Coupe that was beaten with an ugly stick! :yuck:

i first heard of it in an old need for speed game. kind of a sweet ride that cirtanly would be a thrill to drive. especially with that nitrous!

That's strange. Although it is Wiki, it states the car was built from 2000-2002 and was priced around $70,000. It also says Qvale sold the rights in 2003, and the car didn't sell due to an unknown name and unusal design marketing. First cars wore DeTomaso badges, but where changed later on as DeTomaso & Qvale parted ways.

I recall the car from a really old issue of Motor Trend, but that was about it. The only thing I remember about the car is that it was essentially the same as the MG-SV underneath...

I think I remember seeing these somewhere, probably in a game. And I seem to remember them sucking. But I'm not too sure.

Another interesting footnote about the Qvale Mangusta is its success in TransAm racing during its brief lifetime. Brian Simo, in conjunction with the infamous Huffaker team, put the Qvale Mangusta through its paces in the 2000 Trans Am season, eventually capturing the 2000 Trans Am championship.

I can't think of any games off the top of my head, but I'm sure theres one out there somewhere. This is a perfect example of a perfectly forgettable car with meh (if not ugly) styling and shoddy quality, frankly I'll take the more primitive Mustang Cobra

Which was the car's only highlight of its life, amazingly. That team worked hard though with that car.

Would you pay $30,000 for a car that was essentially a Mustang (including some interior bits) minus the rear seats plus DeTemaso build quality? The answer was equally obvious when they were new and cost $70,000 the first time, not to mention the second time when they were new and cost $150,000 but with Rover build quality.

Except Panoz knows how to screw cars together, and DeTomaso never did. And, as far as I'm aware, the Panoz doesn't share interior panels with the Mustang like the Mangusta did.
For that matter, how is the Esperante a rousing success anyways?

Agreed. At least the GT-LM is also somewhat of very nice sports car. However, I wouldn't call the Esperante a success story, but you have to admit, Don Panoz ended up a lot better than Mr. DeTomaso in the end. (Although there are rumors of DeTomaso returning).

Hmm I think I have an old MotorTrend magazine with this car featured in it. They were ridiculously priced if I remembered. Never quite like the way that car looked, hell it looked pretty ugly when I first saw it, gets uglier every time I see one. I'm shocked to see one go for that low, talk about horrible depreciation value.

No - just everything else:

Parking brake, window switches, gauge cluster, a/c vents and controls, signal stalks, door handles... actually just about every single interior bit.

I still kind of like it. Swap in a Cobra R IRS, a better tranmission, and don't drive the living hell out of it and it might be something different. I however would rather spend my $27k on a low mileage 2004 Cobra. I was hoping some of you heard of it.

the car hadn't been born yet when you were 7 years old...
Owned.

@ Panoz/Mustang debate: does it really matter if the Panoz is essentialyl a 100k US Mustang? If you want a Mustang, you buy a Mustang. You want a 100k Mustang, you buy a Panoz. The Panoz is better looking, anyway.

(Plus you can put wings and a propeller on it and it will fly...lmao)

As for the Qvale: the most horrid car to look at ever. Fiat Multipla and Ssanyong Rodius included.

Panoz aside, am I seriously the only one who likes this Qvale (in pre-owned cheaper form)? It doesn't look that bad..? Looks sort of like that Fiat coupe from Gran Turismo (the name escapes me).

The name of that Fiat coupe escapes us all. I remember it being something simple - something describing its bodystyle... like "two-door, closed-roof" or similar. Oh well - I guess I'm left to wonder about the name of that Fiat coupe.
