Yeah, that was pretty messed up. She died from lung cancer, when she wasn't a smoker. I wonder if it was maybe from second hand smoke. Baseball Hall of Famer, Kirby Puckett passed away too. Just day or two ago from what I understand. They were both just in mid 40's. :(

I heard this tonight. She left a son behind that was still pretty young in his life (around 14 I think?) that will need the most support after all this. Dad and Mom within 2 years? My heart goes out to that kid.

RIP Dana.

Love again United.

Kirby died after a botched surgery. Although, his weight was a key factor. He ballooned out of weight after being forced to retire from baseball, which he already was pretty overweight.

Dana Reeve has a 14-year-old son. It must be damn hard for the boy.

Those things mess people up complete (refering to the boy), very sad that this will stay in his memory for his whole life now.

I feel very sorry for him.

Why is it that when someone dies of lung cancer it must be due to smoking of some sort? Considering her husband was on oxygen fand a ventilator for years I am betting that no one smoked in their general viciinty. Smoking is only one of many things that can increase (not cause) your chances of getting cancer. It could just be genetics. My aunt got breast cancer, yet ironically she was one of those "don't do that, it'll cause cancer" types. It is a case of sometimes bad stuff happens and we don't know why.

They come in threes:

Gordon Parks Dies at 93

He was Hollywood's first major black director. He directed The Learning Tree and Shaft.

Cancer is very scary IMO:scared: I hear alot of people die from it, but not only well known people, but also just people in my neighborhoud. Just out the middle of nowhere you suddenly hear they died of some cancer stuff...
People that were still normal the last time I had seen them.
I mean I know it happens, but it's just so unexpected.

Just gone like that:irked::scared: It makes me think about death...where the hell you are going when you are dead, or what you experience then. I know it's easy said: "it's nothing"....but define nothing. I mean time is gone for you then too, whats it like without time:crazy:
I can get so messed up by that.

I thought I worded it pretty carefully, but I guess not good enough. Please read what I posted again. :

Clearly, I did not make the assumption you accuse me of making. Maybe I should have said, "I wonder, maybe, possibly, it could've been from secondhand smoke, but probably not". I did make an effort to show that I am not jumping to an conclusion. Cut me some slack. Please.

Lung cancer kills more women than ovarian and breast cancer combined. Guess which gets more research dollars from both private and government sources?

Next time you're asked to give for breast cancer research, say no. BTW, more men die to prostrate cancer than women do to breast cancer, but prostrate cancer research gets one-thirteenth the amount of money.

Note: The local news said that, so I'm not sure if it's completely true.

That suprises me. Where did you get that info?

Sorry. I work in a department with maybe 3 smokers and 10 of the "you should stop" ninnies. So everytime a smoker sneezes, coughs, whatever it is the cigarettes. Anytime anyone else sneezes, coughs, or whatever it must be because they walked past the smokers outside. Nevermind that our office gets vacuumed once a month and the vents get cleaned once a year. My allergies erupt at work and are almost unnoticed at home. Oh, and a few of the ninnies weigh 300+ pounds and saying something to them about their life choice is offensive.

So I apologize, but everytime I hear "died...lung cancer...did/didn't smoke" it is like fingernails on a chalkboard and I react.

Breast cancer is more common in women. That's why it gets the money. Prostate cancer doesn't get money because no one talks about it. The only way it could feel more taboo to men is if it were testicular.

Cancer used to get tons of research money because it scares everyone, but it has been chipped at over the years as awareness of other diseases comes about. Since the 80s cancer funding has been siphoned off for AIDS, depression, eating disorders, and whatever else a celebrity comes out to talk about because "there is a lack of knowledge out there and no one knows about it." It's as if Hollywood has the hat with pet causes and anytime a celebrity needs a career boost they draw one out and talk about it on the news and at seminars all over the country. Meanwhile, cancer and heart disease are killing more people all the time.

Breast cancer has become the new trendy pet disease in Hollywood and so now it is funded while the extremely low survival rate diseases are ignored.

I'm like that to couple of people at work(I weigh only about half though). Why do I do it? I like them. I don't want them cutting their life short, or increase chances of illness, especially when they are older. Those that I don't know or care about, I've never said anything to them about them smoking, ever.

I can understand that, but I just want you to know, ever since the "ignorant" comment I made in the cigarette related thread, I've been careful. :)

This one woman has been known to hand out pamphlets. It is that bad.

He he. It's all good. 👍

Back on to the Dana Reeve's death. This is two groups of three celebrities/famous people dying not far apart. I hope this doesn't become one of those years where they all just start dropping dead left and right.

I though another was about to start when they had to rush our governor to thehospital with a blood clot yesterday.
