One of the Junior Varsity football players at Niceville High School was killed in a football game last night. I didn't know the guy but it's still a loss since he goes to my school. I don't know the full story, but here's the bulletin from a friends myspace page:

Taylor Haugen, wasn't supposed to play Friday night, but he loved the game of football, and had a fight in him somthin fierce. As he caught his touchdown pass, a Fort Walton Beach corner hit him in the back and another in the stomach. this hit would severely lacerate his liver, and he would fight throughout the night between cardiac arrest from the lost of blood and his injuries. After doctors tried to stick the liver back together, they had to wait and see, but the liver would never stick back together, it never did.... he lost brain activity around 3 o clock last night and they had done all they had done by 6 30 this morning, we miss him and we love him, please pray for his parents .

That's horrible! I'm gonna have to tell that to the team I'm on.

And on a lighter note, that's another reason I'm D-line.

That's why I quit football when I was in H.S. It's a savage game.

What an extremely rare occurrence, even for a game as violent as football. What a tragic and unfortunate loss.

RIP young man :(.

Sometimes I feel it should be illegal to tackle someone in mid-air although I see how it'd be unfair to the game. Everytime I see someone get tackled at the legs in mid-air I can see their neck snap as they hit the ground but it never happens. (thankfully)

Poor chap, but at least he (supposedly) died doing what he loved.

I love playing football, but it's not something I'd want to go out and do multiple times a week, too rough. I'll stick to getting my injuries from mountain biking and karate.

It really is sad seeing young high school athletes die from sports injuries. A school around me had a guy die from I believe severe heat exhaustion.

Okay So i go to Niceville High School. I did know Taylor Haugen. He was a wide reciever & he was a sophmore. He was super funny and i'm really going to miss him. I hadn't seen him since 6th grade when i went to Lewis Middle School. Its really sad this happened.. People say if he wouldnt have gone to F.W.B Medical Center he would have survived.. I personally think he had done good to the community and god needed him more than we did.. He left this world in a better place than he found it... If you'd like to know more on this subject i guess just talk to me... its a very emotional time for everyone so please don't be cruel

I've got to say I never expected to see a member other than myself from Niceville. I'm sure his death took a bigger tole out of you than it did me.

Yeah.. Well it was a very sad thing for our community to go threw.. Nothing this major ever happens in our county let alone community. accept the whole john waller thing but i didn't know him very well but i indeed did know Taylor. He was very sweet. & i said don't be cruel because if you've seen the youtube videos and saw the cmmts many people said very very very cruel stuff on their.. like how he raped a cheerleader and why white guys shouldn't play a black guys sport. which is pathetic. because WHITES invented it... not to be racist.. its a fact. but i thank you guys for not being cruel.. it helps alot.

I never liked football. This is why. My condolences.

And to think I was about to be talked into joining the school football team. Surely nothing this serious is frequent, but it is also the frequent occurrences which, while not as extreme as Taylor's case, are still serious.

I can't imagine how bad the guys who hit him feel. I'm sorry for your loss.

One of them is under suicide watch. They should know that nobody blames them. I have not heard a single person put blame on anyone. Although there is one kid at Fort Walton High that decided to make a video making fun of Taylor. I want to kill him.

but i thank you guys for not being cruel.. it helps alot.
If you stick around, you would find there are a lot of great people here. They know how to help with a lot of things.

Are you ****in serious?!?
Dude do you kno the guy who made the video.
ooo hes so dead.
Alot of my friends go to Fort Walton Beach.
That is so freakin rude.
& cruel.
There are some freakin retarted people in Niceville.
& i know half of the fort walton beach football team quit.
the two guys who tackled him i know are both under sucidal watch
one of em dropped out of school. & i have no idea about the other one.
but my mom works with someone who knew one of the boys.

Well first the boys didn't stop playing on the team, they were going through a rough time and really didn't know what to do with themselves. They didn't know how to deal with it. It took time for them to work through it and they both still play football and both are still in school. Taylor was a wonderful friend and was 15 years old. I miss him very much and wish he was still with us today.

So he got hit from the front and back at the same time? That sounds pretty damn bad. :\
