Race construction

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but I still think it would be totally awesome if we could chose our competition. That is probably the most frustrating thing in the game to me. I pick a car and the game picks who I'm racing against. It's rarely evenly ballanced. What if I want to take my RX-7 out against five other RX-7s? Can't do it, not an option. This would make me so happy.

Or better yet, use cars from my garage to race against me. Booya! That'd be sweet.

I know what you are talking about I want to race against LM
cars at Rome 2hr but I cant because PD put in "stock" cars
Oh well...guess it´s back to GT2 for me:rolleyes:

Well, race construction is on my list. But before that is MORE CARS ON THE TRACK. But I suppose that's a limitation of the hardware.

I don't mind the number of cars, what do mind is the lack of competition they provide. I want them to be able to keep up with me, they should use that adaptive AI thing, the better you are at the game the better the AI becomes a poor player won't be thrashed and a good player won win by a mile.

Agreed. When I take out my Altezza for a spin at R246, four of the cars fall behind and only one car keeps up with me, another Altezza. If all 5 cars were Altezzas, it would be a better race.

Do you get to pick who you race against in real life? No.

If you could in GT4 then I guess it wouldn't be a REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR.

An extra option in Arcade mode would be nice, I don't think you should choose in sim mode but maybe as abonus for completing Arcade mode.

I guess this was to a degree covered in GT2 with the one-make series under each manufacturer. One thing that was noticeable in GT3 was that there was usually one strong car in each field - the 350Z in the Polyphony Digital Cup comes immediately to mind - that would pretty well dominate each eace, with the rest of the field becoming irrelevant.

I'm running through the PD series again in an S2000, which has a significant tyre advantage that is able to overcome the sheer pace of the 350Z, although at certain tracks (like Rome) the straights aren't long enough to allow the Z to stretch its legs (odd - I always considered it a power circuit). Optimisation of cars running in a series would be good, rather than just the field running mediums and everyone pitting around Lap 6 or 7 - it'd be good trying to guess tyre strategies of your opponents, and if fuel comes into GT4 that's another potential variable

I find the best situation for having a custom race is arguments or discussions. For instance, if you want to compare two cars head to head and see which one wins.

I just thought of this yesterday. PD should allow you the ability to adjust the AI's performance. It's fine we had amature, beginner, professional in GT3, but that was too easy for me to beat. So, I'm thinking about let we the user set different levels of AI performance levels to our liking. Say 1-3 for amature, 4-6 for beginner, 7-9 for novice and 10 for professional. For the pro setting, the cars should be a very difficult oponet to race against.

Wow, lots of good stuff in those posts.

Takumi - comparing cars' performance makes me think "gee, you could just run them seperately and see what times you can get" which then makes me think "wouldn't it be cool if we could have multiple ghost cars running at the same time?" Spiffy!

Solid - Yes, there should be better AI tuning. That's pretty much a given for any game (: However, I think it would be rather difficult. They would essentially have to write multiple AI for each setting, or somehow work variables into the equation that can be altered. This may already be happening, and even happening on the fly.

Vat - It would be SO COOL if they would bring back the "One-Make" series. But in addition to that I would want to see the same car tuned differently and the AI to not all have the same personality. If they all run with the same algorythm then they'll all just be lined up bumper to bumper. They have to have different strategy. Maybe different tires - one designed for more laps per pit, others for high speed through the turns. I would want to be able to get all their info as well. How each car was set up and how well it did in the race.

Would you just close off Tokyo in real life? No.

Some people's logic just sucks. Of course it's not going to be bloody realistic in life choices, it's a game. Plus you can choose who you want to race against by participating in different series at tracks.

They do close off streets for races, since you obviously don't know.

That sounds like a really good idea!!👍 :)

Isn't some if not all of the monte carlo grand prix made up of street roads that have been closed off? And why shouldn't they shut down roads for racing cars, when they do for people running marathons.

Because the marathons don't require construction like car races usually do (:

They DO close off city roads for races. I've seen it. I can't think of the name of the race or the city, but it was an opened wheeled race in Florida somewhere in the downtown area I believe. Hell, I was just watching a CART race a couple weeks ago that was done on city streets. I remember it was a really narrow track lined with white barriers and fences.

Duh.

To close off a part of Tokyo or New York for a racing event would almost be impossible.

Bayfront Park, Miami.

I saw a couple of races there a few weeks ago also. It's a shame the way the local city officials have let the surface of that street course to get in such a dishevelled condition. The drivers, team managers and announcers all stated how horrible the course was. The Trans Am, Amerircan Le Mans and the Grand An Cup had races that took place there, and all said it was the worst they had ever seen.

It's a shame, they need to get it fixed.

Cote D'Azure, or more famousley known as Monaco, also part of the Circuit de la Sarth (the circuit used in the LeMans 24hr) is public roads. Alot of Australian tracks are on roads Surfers paradise, Adelaide there are more but I can't remeber the names, and I think Long beach is turned into a race track as well.

Yeah Long Beach is a nice circuit.
And dont forget Helsinki Thunder ITC used (now days DTM) raced there
and i think Bathurst is a road track am I righ?

Bathurst is a fantastic circuit and I hope that it makes it into GT4. Is it just me or are quite a few of the Australian circuits more exiting than others.

Agreed with that they should put in more tracks from our assuie friends..:D

While I'd love to see a few tracks from here, the landscape on several is just boring. A few trees here and there. :(

Um bathurst is a road circut, not a race track. fully public road, just closed of at both ends of the pit straight on race days. the sandtraps and advertising and stuff is there all year round. only place u cant drive is pit lane. and yeah im an aussie and ive done it.
