I just rented it and i can say even though its just a juiced up port of the ps2 version it really holds it own as a handheld game. Its a upgraded version of TOCA RD 2 for PSP in the UK. So if you imported this one may or may not be worth it.

The US version has 4 player game share and 12 players WI-Fi with custom sound tracks. The handling is great and the controls have been tweeked for the psp version. It drives well even though it clearly has assisted braking and steering. The graphics are well done even though it uses the psp's basic graphics engine( many games do). The frame rate is passable and the game is identical to the console in every way but scaled down. The audio is not the same but is good anyway.

I really did a number on my battery last night playing it away from home. it offers lots of challenges and the load times are not too bad but not as quick as Ridge racer.

I would say this is the best racing game for PSP out of the massive pile of racing games. It very cool and if you have 3 friends with psp's multiplayer is fun too and not much laggy if everyone is being still. Just be sure to play through to unlock stuff or find a game save with everything unlocked.

Lastly drifting is very possible with some nice looking replays too. You must own this if you own a PSP and love racing games.
 
Ok I've put a few more hours into and this is the best racing game for PSP and its the only one of its kind. The Trans World Cup is a big bonus for the US ver. as it gives you 10 more tracks and about 15 more cars including the Gemballa GTR750(i think is new) and The Koineg GT(F360) and GT-B(Diablo)(?) as well as the drift happy Buick GS.

The game is deep and it will have you hooked. It is the PS2 version in a handheld but putting somthing good on the go is a good thing.
 
I seen this game on Gamespot and i quite fancied it, now after your review of this game it is enough to win my vote, however i dont seem to see a uk release date, is it coming to the uk?
 
No its not. But you can buy TOCA RD for PSP, its the same game minus Trans Word Cup and the bonus cars and tracks.
 
Wow, LaBounti, after reading your review hear and researching the game abit more, I decided to buy it. And wow, this is great! I haven't had this much fun in a racing game since GT4 came out. It's just a blast to play and it does have an addictive quality to it. A great game all around, and like you said, a must own!!!! 👍 👍

Im gonna pick this game up at ebgames this weekend. Can someone tell me how the driving psychics feel?

They feel just right for the psp's limited controls. The ananub stick is pretty good but most will use the d-pad. The physics are not 100% realistic but far from arcade. Its like the compensate for the psp, rathe than making the cars difficult to control. Cars do feel different, the Gemballa GTR750 feels way different than the 67 Vette, Ford GT and the rally cars have unique handling(yet bad).

I havent given the custom sound tracks a try since its not a simple drag and drop. Files have to be converted first through a simple softwaere tool by Codemasters. There are step by step instructions on how to do.

Playing it more and more it seemed easy at first but its getting tougher now that im in season 3.

dam i had a chance to get it today but I got field commander instead. Great game once you figured out the controls. Anyways I guess ill just have to wait a couple more weeks to get this game :grumpy: I was always wonering how it would feel to play a racing sim the psp. Do you think GT mobile will better?

If it lacks these 3 things then no, i dont think it will be beter. But PD has never done a "scaled down" GT game yet and we will have to wait and see. Race driver 06 is a little more than the original console game but portable.

maybe they will just do like a copy of gt3 kinda like racedriver 2006 is the same as toca 2(i think:dunce: )
 
Well, I picked up Race Driver 2006, and I must say, it's a great game.

The PSP is finally delivering on the promise of console quality games on a handheld, and I'm lovin' it.
 
I got Race Driver '06 About 2 days ago and even though it is a port of TOCA its still very good for the psp, my only coomplaint is that the driving feels mushy and not very crisp, but it is nice to see races with up to 20 cars and AI that actually challenges you. Nevertheless im happy with it
 
I thought this game was great at first, but then I changed my mind after about 4 days.

I don't like how you can't mix classes of cars, I hate how there is very limited variety of cars in a single race, I hate that it is so short, I hate that it's only a marginally better port of the console game TOCA2, and I hate that I paid so much for it just to get bored of it before the week was even done.👎
 
same thing happened to me, not long after i posted the above comment i went and traded it in, the driving that i was complaining about finally sent me over and i said enough


and yes i also got the feeling of "ok ive done all of this before"
 
You could never mix classes an any TOCA game..... Lmited cars in single race? There are over 50 cars in the games in 20+ classes. The game is not short at all.

I still thinks its a great title, Right now there's no competetion.
