First of all you need to focus on what the two cars would have been doing if they were not sharing the same bit of a track.

The racing line on a series of bends like that with a straight after, would be the line the Rx-7 was taking. The straightest possible route.

The line the Audi was taking, was obviously created by him chasing, it would be interesting to see his line on the same section on previous or later laps. If it is the same as his line shown, i would be surprised.

On to what we see, im not convinced that the Audi at that speed, could have avoided contact with the wall on the right upon exiting the corner, He gained time because of the rx-7 poor hairpin prior, gained on the opponent and tried his luck.

He used the Rx-7 as a brake. If he really was that faster why attempt such a coarse overtaking attempt?

The rx-7 had the racing line, was in front. And being a video game, you dont have full peripheral vision, just a quick look in your mirror. It was the Audi who should have shown restraint, not sling one up the inside and hope for the best.

Bit of both.
The RX7 should have seen the other coming, but the other car should have either slowed down or turned in earlier.
Either way it looked like a racing incident and was neither parties fault

Wrong, the RX-7 turned INTO the Audi. The Audi was simply taking the open gap. You don't run a "normal racing line" when passing. The Audi used a standard racing move. If the the RX-7 had turned in, and the Audi ended up hitting it anywhere from about mid-door and back, THEN the Audi would be at fault. As it stands, the Audi had established postion.

As it stands, it is on the Mazda for going wide (mistake #1), and not knowing where his competition was (mistake #2).

Upon rewatching the race more carefully, I'm changing my mind.

The Audi was at fault, full stop. Watch carefully. He has the whole lane to his left with which to make a corner entry. Instead, he doesn't even try to turn until the RX-7 is on top of him. He practically drove straight into him.

The RX-7 try to avoid the overtaking, but it looks like a reflex action. Therefore no one's fault

Edit: I've seen it one more time and the Quattro does not keep an adecuate turn speed in order to stay a bit closer to the side of the road, so, although this is a minor accident the quattro take the blame.

The Quattro was faster in the corner and broke late to overtake.
Rx7 had outside and deliberatly attempted to block him by taking the inside.
Therefore its Rx7 fault and could have avoided collision by taking the outside. But if the Quattro collided then, its a different story.

i said rx7 as he turned in on him but at the same time if he was in bumper cam he may not have seen him take a late dive up the inside

Unless you have a multi monitor setup it can be very difficult for the lead car to judge exactly where the passing car is. The Audi definitely had a run on the RX7 and a clean opportunity to pass. It appears to me that the RX7 turned down into the passing car. The incident doesn't appear to be intentional, just a racing incident.

I voted that the leading driver was at fault, even though I believe it was just a racing incident and not worth worrying about.

The car passing clearly had the inside line and the outside car came down to cause the contact. You can see the passing car didn't go up the track.

This 👍

They guy in the black car blocks the other driver. When the red car puts the front in same line with the rear of black car, black car has to leave enough room to the other. Red has gained the position on track. But while red is in the inside, black moves to the inside.

Maybe the driver in the black one didn't notice the position of red one... Is a common incident. It don't seem to be an intentional touch... But clearly is black car fault.

I indeed believe you can discuss that the following car is 3/4 passed when it happens, but it seems quite clean from both.
I generally give advantage to the leader, but here it is too close to blame someone.

Thanks all for voting and sharing, much appreciated.

I just want to make one thing clear: both drivers pride themselves on clean driving and there is absolutely zero chance anything was done intentionally to hurt the other car. Both drivers respect and are familiar with each other. (even after the incident)

it a awd its going to under steer.
my quattro always under steer no matter wat i do so it no ones fault

The ruling for the league has already been made, and Deuce and I have already put this incident past us, but I just wanted to comment:

You can't use the contact point as the time to measure overlap. If you judge by that rule, then it would be okay to go slamming into people full force, as long as you hit them beyond the door. Which, of course, doesn't make sense. When you ask the question "was there sufficient overlap early enough?" you must judge whether overlap was had at some point prior to collision.

The two main items up for discussion are:

1) What constitutes sufficient overlap
2) When must that overlap be established by

I think instead of using the word 'wrong', 'I disagree' would be less offensive.

I said that the Audi was in his line due to the intent of passing, as shown in the video.

Restraint should have been shown by the Audi, that move 99 times out of a 100 could always result in a collision, and 99 times out of a 100 the person causing it comes out best, hence why people always do it online.

And just to add, if I done what the Audi had done, I would have relinquished the position. Online etiquette and all that!

I would call that as a 50/50 or maybe a 60/40 with the Audi being at fault.

It was a slightly opportunistic move.

Since this specific series is a one Vs. one format, both drivers had an open line of communication. Immediately after the incident the Audi driver asked if he was at fault (suggesting he would slow down and surrender the position)
What actually did happen after, I think, is irrelevant.

If nothing else, I think our small racing club has too much online etiquette.

Audi Quattro's understeering shows again.
Walter Röhrl is pleased

Te Audi tried to stop you can see hi brake lights flash rx7 didn't try to move up but may have caused himself to push up the track in mid apex final verdict? Racing incident

Looks like the RX7 driver tried to the close the door a bit too late and didn't quite pull it off. Seems as though the Quattro was already committed and couldn't do anything even if he had decided to terminate the pass.

I don't think it was intentional and don't find fault. Send the video to the FIA maybe? :)

It looks Like the Guy in the rx7 got on the gas to earlier and. Judging by What I read of the rules he had the right away.

Let me just clear something up: A few people have alleged that I (RX-7) tried to block the Audi. That is an untrue statement. I veered to the apex because I neglected to check my side view during the chicane. I was aware of where he was all the way up to the end of the straight after the hairpin. At that point, I was purely focusing on my driving line through the chicane, and (if memory serves me correctly -- it's been a couple days now, so things are getting fuzzy) I did not check my rear view mirror any more from that point on.

Like I said it looked to just bit an accident. With throttle because I saw it spike right before the tap

my opinion is the RX7 driver should have given a bit more room for the audi driver. the front of the audi was past the B pillar of the RX7 and that is usually the measure for touring cars when such an accident occurs.

its just racing incident that could have been prevented if the rx7 driver gave a bit more room. rx7 left the door open too wide, and the audi driver had better drive off the corner. it was always going to happen.

Looked like an innocuous tap to me. If the regulations let you use decent tyres then the race could have continued just fine instead of sliding off into the wall and ending the contest.

Agree 100%. The Audi took the corner too fast/braked too late, and knocked the leading RX-7 off the proper racing line.

I'd have been pretty pissed off if I was the RX-7, especially when the hoon's Audi's stupidity misjudgement ruins the whole race for me.

Audi had a run coming out of the hair pin, rx7 took inside line (outside next) and audi went for the outside (inside next), he didn't quiet have the position (along side) in the first turn, but the 2nd was along side, and the rx7 pulled into him. I'm not sure what the rules of GTP define about that, but if I was a steward of the race, rx7 would be at fault but really a racing incident and no penalty would be given.

Edit: that close of a battle you should always check your mirrors it would of been apparent the audi had a run and pulled to the outside (inside next turn) and you would of left room.

IMO you clearly blocked the Audi. This doesn't means it was a willful act. It seems that you are just taking your line, without noticing the other driver position. It may be possible that you couldn't see him because it was in the dead angle of the mirror. Usually we drive focused in our own line and this is a mistake. We should be focused in the other cars position before changing our direction (moving from outside to inside in order to draw a nice cornering line). Many times we can't see the other car, then we have to imagine where it can be... This always happens in less than a second and sometimes it's hard to avoid an incident in close "fight"...
If I was in the audi in this situation I think I would try to enter the inside gap too...

just looks like the Rx7 went wide and in the Quattro in and then wide. a miss-comunication on line, and both drivers made a small mistake which caused a tap.
