Race Mod - Lose your upgrades?

If you upgrade a car before doing the race mod do you lose those upgrades?

I believe so. A few people have said that if you plan to do a RM on a car, don't bother buying stuff beforehand.

no you dont. Ive done it and you keep the parts - you just have to click them when you select your car in your garage (I think its settings or tunning or something) and they will be improving your specs again after you race modify it.

it says right on the race mod option in the auto shop that you will lose any mods you made to the car. whether that doesnt apply to some parts i dont know.

The parts are removed from your car when the RM is purchased but you can put them back on at the settings page at the beginning of a race.

You basically waste credits on redundant upgrades like weight reductions and transmission, etc.. Best bet is to buy a car and then RM first, then go into the other upgrades.

I have looked at a dozen or so of my cars, and none of them can be race modded. What is the criteria for being able to use the race mod?
