In my opinion some nicknames are OK, some are not

Here is an example of some good ones

Tony Stewart
- Rushville Rocket
- Smoke

Dale Earnhardt
- The Intimidator
- Mr. Restrictor Plate

Helio Castroneves
- Spiderman

Rusty Wallace
- Rubberneck

Mark Martin
- Mr Consistancy

Dale Earnhardt Jr
- June Bug
- Junior

Ryan Newman
- Rocket Man

Joe Nemecheck
- Front Row Joe

Mika Hakkenein
- The Flying Fin

Jos Verstappen
- Jos 'The Boss' Verstappen

Kimi Raikennon
Scott Dixon

- The Ice Man

A.J. Foyt
- Super Tex

Jeff Gordon
- Flames
- The Kid

Jeff Gordon's Pit Crew
- The Rainbow Warriors

Tom Kristensen
- Mr Le Mans

Now there are some nicknames that I absolutley cannot stand...they usually appear quite often on the internet and it is my opinion that no commentator should use these if he wants to be seen as a professional. These names have nothing to do with their skill or personality but rather seem to be crappy internet 'shortcut' lingo of their names.

Jeff Gordon
- Gordo

Mike Rockenfeller
- Rocky

Allan McNish
- Nishy

Michael Schumacher
- Schuey

Peugeot 908
- Pug

Sebastian Bourdais
- Sea Bass

Give examples of nicknames you like and others you dont

Mika Hakkenein
- The Flying Fin

Kimi Raikennon
- The Ice Man
I know you don't like F1, but at least spell their names right.

Peugeots have been known as Pugs for ages. It is not just some new fangled slang.

Hint: Kimi Raikkonen > Mika Hakkinen 💡

Nick Heidfeld
Quick nick :sly:

Jarno Trulli
Jarno the train trulli

People calling Fernando Alonso "Alfonso" angers me!

Mika used to be refered to as "The Hack/The Hak" on the Motors DTM Coverage.

Juan Montoya was called "The Monster" or "Monster Montoya" or "The Overtaker"

Some forums used to refer to Christian Abt as "The A-Bomb", on account of his destructive ability, which always amused me.

One that I've heard for Robert Kubica is "Rapid Rob", making BMW Saubers line-up Quick Nick & Rapid Rob.

NASCARS David Ragan is often referred to as "Pinball Ragan" on the internet, as he crashes and bounces into things alot.

Some good ones (all in the 1950s-1960s, in my opinion):

The Doctor(Giuseppe Farina)

Maestro (Stirling Moss, Juan Manuel Fangio)

Farnham Flyer (Mike Hawthorn)

Le Petoulet (Maurice Trintignant; interesting story behind that)

Mr. Monaco (Graham Hill)

"Big John" Surtees (from Italian Il Grande John, meaning John the Great. The Italians gave him this nickname while he dominated the motorcycle WorldChampionship. The British press mistranslated this)

Little Joe Weatherly (good flow on that name)

Smokey Yunick (unless Smokey is his name)

Some bad ones:

Schuey (Michael Schumacher)

Nige (Nigel Mansell)

I can't think of any bad ones at the moment; I will continue later. But modern nicknames have really lost their way.

Max "The Axe" Papis
Kyle Bush - Wild thing

and most the others I cna think of are already mentioned.

Some Australian drivers:

Garth Tander - GT
Mark Skaife - Skaifey
Todd Kelly - the Toddler
Paul Radisich - the Rat
Russell Ingall - the Enforcer
Steven Johnson - Junior Johnson
Craig Lowndes - Lowndesy
Steven Richards - Richo

Some names I can think of:

Jeremy Mcgrath- Mc, Showtime

Ricky Carmichael- RC, G.O.A.T., The Flying Freckle

Kevin Windham- K-Dub

Mike Larocco- The Rock

Justin Buckelew- Bucky

Jeff Emig- Fro

Max Angeleli- Max the Axe

Jeremy Stenberg- Twitch

In the 60's and 70's the Drag Racers had some pretty good ones.

"Big Daddy" Don Garlits
"The Snake" Don Prudhome
"Mongoose" Tom McEwen
Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins

Terry Labonte- The Iceman
Ricky Rudd- Rooster
Kyle Busch- Rowdy Busch
Kevin Harvick- Happy Harvick

Most of the other ones I'm thinking of have already been mentioned. :)

Dorikin/Drift King - Keiichi Tsuchiya
Smokey Nagata
N.O.B. (No One Better) - Nobteru Taniguchi
Nomuken - Ken Nomura

David Pearson -"The Silver Fox" Gray hair and very sly

Roberto Moreno - "Super Sub" There were several years in CART that he stepped in whenever a driver was injured or otherwise unavailable.

Tomas Enge
The Tank

No idea why though... A guess would be that he seem to be indestructable...

Tomas "The Tank" Enge?

That sounds like...

When you think about it, it does kind of make sense.
