Old news at this point, but I had no idea myself...

I've been away from this for a good while as I got sick of my rig taking up my whole computer room, but now I'm back using a controller (DualSense, plays great!) and man, as a big fan of 90's motorsport, this was already the best in the business but now it's even better. I mean, full 1995 DTM roster and three historic German tracks as well?

I can't stand the PS2 level car models. Won't buy, which is a shame considering how much I've wished for Super Tourers to be included.

Any explanation why there are no Primera, Mondeo, Peugeot, etc in the DLC? Will those be available in the future?

No explanation that I'm aware of but the initial announcement (from the KW Studios forums) said:
And this is just the beginning—more models will be added in future updates, ensuring an ever-growing lineup of fan-favorite touring cars.

Ok, finally changed my mind and bought the Super Touring pack. It's quite great. Love the 850 and Accord. Wish they'd included the Jaccs livery for the Accord though, but whatever.

Everything gets a little bit expensive in this game once you have used the premium pack :( I have just bought the previous Super Touring pack as it was discounted, but to add the 4 tracks and the 2 new super tourers to do the RSTC time trials costs another 35 quid... OK, I don't really need the 2 new cars, but still!

The sale means I now have all the super touresrs to play with along with the '95 DTM cars :) Looking forward to the ranked racing refresh and the graphics update that is supposed to happen this month as well.

I need to work on my FOV, driving the NBordschleife in this game feels off and I think that may be why...

My favourite BTCC car, from the era that got me started on the series. It's getting harder and harder to resist getting a PC.

There looks to be a good value (heavily discounted right now) pack available for those wanting to try the game, looks to feature one car from the major classes and 27 tracks for 26 quid in the uk.

Online Racing Pack

I still think its very expensive title to get started in, which why this sort of pack is good to know about!

I have managed one online Super Touring race post update (I got distracted by TXR), qualified second, but no clue how online rolling starts worked in the game, which caught me out a little! The experience was smooith with no issues, other than me making mistakes ;) A good step forwards in terms of racing a full grid in ranked considering the small player base.

As expected the Laguna Super Tourer was super nice to drive and race

I haven't really played this game for years, and had never bought any content for it, but having been tempted into trying AMS2 due to the Steam sale, I'd been comparing every sim game I own, using the M4 GT3 around Nordschleife. Having seen the graphics update for RaceRoom, I installed it again to give it another try. I tried the MX-5 time trial around Laguna Seca, and was blown away by how good it was with a controller. The online racing pack looked perfect as it includes both Nordschleife and the M4 GT3. It seemed to give me a small extra discount for some reason, so it only cost £23. It says it's reduced in price by 90%, but surely it wouldn't cost £230 normally?!

I think RaceRoom is now my favourite sim with a controller. It feels more sim than Forza Motorsport, but easier to avoid major errors than AMS2 or AC Evo. I've got Project Motor Racing pre-ordered, but I'm feeling like it will struggle to match the controller experience RaceRoom is providing now.

What the game and store don't really tell you is that when you buy a car, you get to choose one livery, the others cost 25p, the F4 car has 40 liveries so thats a tenner right there it soon adds up! The pack includes all the liveries for the 18 cars some have way more trhan others of course, the cars themselves are 3 to 6 quid, same for the tracks so yes you are getting what would cost 200+ quids worth of content for for just 23...

Without theses sort of discounted packs Raceroom gets really expensive really quickly!

I did the ranked Super Touring race last night, grid off 22, borked the standing start but had was proper good fun fighting back up the pack, well until I got dc'd in the last sector on the last lap, still gained rating and rep though so not all bad! They have also upped the frequency of the race now to once per hour rather than every 2!

Sod the Nordschleife jump in that Volvo S40, learn the Salzburgring and get into some ranked online racing ;)

I am so so tempted. If PMR doesn't work out I will have to open the dusty old wallet and join the grid. Not the Volvo though (that one anyway), I'm more of a Laguna man.

@Fezzik More temptation then, the good and the bad of online ranked racing ;)

No laguna in the online racing pack only the Volvo, It would be an additional 7-8 quid with all the liveries :( It drives well though :)

After quite a few more hours playing this game, I'm getting more of a feeling of the sheer joy of driving cars than ever before. AMS2 and AC EVO are in the same ballpark, but for me, they're a bit behind R3E's driving feel, which just feels so natural and is unmatched by any other game I've played right now.

I watched a video by this guy:

He says there was an update to R3E in Jan 2024, and in his opinion, since then it has had the best driving feel of any sim. Even though I'm using a controller and he is using a wheel, it feels like that to me, too. Again, he uses the word natural a lot, and that is exactly the description I was giving it before I saw his video.

I also feel like it vindicates a view I've expressed on these forums many times, which is that sim should not equate with difficulty. People enjoy driving real cars and don't find them hard to drive. What makes "sims" difficult is the fact they are unrealistic, so people are caught out by unintuitive behaviours that don't feel natural. Now we have a game that is sim, feels natural, isn't difficult to drive, but at the same time it feels like realistic behaviour is accurately modelled with high fidelty.

Anyone who has never tried this game before, or hasn't tried it since before Jan 2024, I strongly recommend giving it a try now. Click on Competitions, and give this free to play time trial a go:

Set TC and ABS to 1 (minimum), turn stability off, pick the "Get Real" option, and have fun.

Edit: Okay, after some more playing of the game I realise the advice to set TC and ABS to 1 was not good. I had assumed 1 was the least intrusive, but it seems it's the other way round. 1 is still probably good while getting used to the game, but I'm generally using 4 now. You have to be very careful on kerbs when using 4. The default combinations of parameters are a bit frustrating as I'd like the 50% cut from 5, but the lateral of 0.2 it comes with is too low for me.

Has anyone tried this on a Steam Deck? The store says it is "playable".

There also a F2P ranked online race, I believe it’s the Honda FK7 TCR at the Hungaroring, this week, 15 minute sprint on a 30 minute cycle.

Just download the game and jump in, you can also try any car out before you buy!

I have become addicted to racing Super Touring, in the ranked servers, the racing has been superb, I have only run into one guy that blocked, the rest have been hard but fair, really has been great.

Unfortunately they have been having server problems for the last 24 hours, races do not start, so no fun can be had :( This is a shame, as everything good from the last update is being overlooked as the servers have not been functioning correctly.

Things to know about ranked racing in Raceroom, the first 21 races your rep and rating gains and losses are doubled, a dnf is hard on rep during this time, cost me 16 points which is huge.

You get 3 incident points, if you leave a server early, the calculation also factors in the number of laps so if you get killed on the first lap, it will cost a lot of rep and rating.

I've tried out my first "official" race through the new multiplayer system. Honestly it's as straightforward as it looks, which is a good thing.

Since the combo above is part of a F2P period, I tried it anyway. I've never tried nor raced in Zandvoort prior to this. With the lap time I did, I've started at P4, and got to P3 in the same starting lap with some added suspension damage.

In the last minutes of the race, I had to defend my 3rd place from the car behind me, all while I had no idea where the radar went (of if it was even an option at all). Would it be enough to get the online racing pack for now? Maybe? Granted it's fun and it's the first time I hear a "Daily Race" actually being "Daily" for the first time. But I'll give it some time to figure it out.

IMO the online racing pack is good value for its content right now it gives a car in each of the major classes, and a shed load of tracks which gives access to most ranked stuff!

There is no native radar in Raceroom, but it can be had using a 3rd party webhud, I am using Seal Hub , this in turn. Needs crew chief and a dash executable to be running. It’s not at all intuitive to set up but worth the time. If I get time later I will dig up the links.

Got a solid win with strategy in the 8pm DTM 95 weekly at Donington yesterday, cars wouldn’t do the 45 minutes on max chat, so I dropped the map down to 1 and clipped the revs to 11900, this got the Calibra to the end without having to stop. The first attempt in the 4pm race netted a second place, the guy that took the win was one of the top drivers and destroyed the field!

Pick of this weeks ranked stuff for me is Super Touring at Zolder, 30 minute rotation so able to round robin it, may also look the feature DTM95 Nordschleife race a little
Later in the week!

Would it be enough to get the online racing pack for now?
I bought it, but didn't realise at the time that if you want anything else, you should get it at the same time as the online racing pack. The reason is you get an increasing bulk discount based on how many VRP you're buying, it's a % that increases as you buy more VRP in one go. I've since bought the Porsche pack as well (gets you the 911 GT3 R, as well as the popular Rexy and Roxy liveries among others), but would have paid slightly less for it if I'd bought it at the same time as the online racing pack.

When you buy multiple packs at the same time that share content, it automatically reduces the price of the packs you add later, so if you add the online racing pack first, then the Porsche pack, your cart total will go up by less than the sum of the prices, not only because of the VRP bulk discount, but because the 911 Cup cars are common to both packs.
