Are any of you guys doing the bump drafting that Jeff Gordon taught in his Nascar School?

This championship is not really much of an issue when you have a draft buddy to screw over at the end.

^ +1 that's how I won. Well this and a good car setup. God forbid you actually have to use strategy to win a race haha.

Thanks PD. Thanks a lot. I duplicated my setup exactly from the first time I beat the NASCAR championship. Different car but HP already broken in the same as the first one. I won at Indy, same as first time (margin of victory about the same as before). Breezed through the middle three road course events. And then, there was Daytona. I may as well have been running a golf cart against the other 11 cars.

And before someone says, "Well, if you beat Indy with ASM/ABS on, then you can beat Daytona." Um, no. Those tracks are as different as night and day. You have to actually use brakes at Indy--just a quick stab going into the corners. At Daytona, you use the brakes, you lose the race. Simple as that. Otherwise, why would people be complaining about their Bobs jamming on the binders in the same B-spec event?

And while we're at it: a 3500-pound stock car is not going to stop on a dime like a touring car. Unless, of course, it's in this game.

You can turn ASM off with NASCAR, you just have to setup your controller to allow you to open up your RA function menu. Use the D-Pad to setup up RA Select +/-, and RA Adjust +/-. I do believe that you have to turn off ABS as well in order to turn off ASM. Be aware that NASCAR's are prone to spinning out after being tapped on the rear, which happens quite often with the A.I. Drivers.

NASCAR suxxx. At the least PD could add some classic 60's and 70's stock cars, with nostalgia races. I might actually race NASCAR if I could do it in a 1970 Superbird.

First: I don't use a controller.
Second: I've had my RA functions mapped since the Japanese version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Third: Since the 1.06 patch (as indicated in an earlier post), the AI doing PITT maneuvers is less frequent. They seem to back off a little. Rather than just blindly plowing through you like the movie "Unstoppable".
Fourth: You are doing yourself a major injustice by not stepping up to a wheel. It completely changes your gaming experience.

In the special ASM is locked on and the lowest ABS can be set is 1, no longer can you set it to 0

And the same goes with the NASCAR championship in A-Spec at least at Indy and Daytona.

doh...

You also can't turn ABS to 0 on the A-Spec race and ASM is locked on.

This pissed me off so much this morning. ASM feels like an over protective mother.

ASM: "Oh Poptart, 200 mph around the corner is too dangerous. Here I'll just reduce your speed to 180 mph."

Me: "GAH! No I was doing fine!"

ASM: "Don't use that tone against me! I'm just watching out for your safety. Also, 180 mph is really fast."

Me: "If I wanted to slow down I would have eased off the throttle! ASM, I don't need you to drive for me! I'm level 29 for goodness sakes!"

ASM: "Oh you make me worry so much."

doh again, and lol :)

I concur! I don't care for modern day NASCAR at all to be honest, but the older cars... yep, they'd be cool. (On a related note, I also think it's a rather cheap way to get the number of premiums up... do we really need 5 different teamversions of 1 car? They are exactly the same apart from the livery as far as I can tell... This might make sense if NASCAR was a large part of the game, but it's only one championship and one special event >.<)

Well if it is actually true that ASM is locked ON for Indy and Daytona in the championship extreme event and not just the special; I feel a little better....and that this might be a bug from one of the patches...

First of all, like some have mentioned...Nascars don't have ANY stability management, ABS, etc...the fawkin' things are not even fuel injected...so if this back handed attempt to make a nascar race more difficult is on purpose...consider me annoyed...

But it could just be some weird glitch that showed up...I hope at least...I don't yet have a wheel, but on the special event/advanced 2nd daytona race (the last one in the challenge)...I'm not coming close to even bronze after trying all afternoon...I can draft the car you start behind, and get past the red car to the left (staying high to pass him)...and I am positive I have nailed the line and draft the same car all the way through the turn on multiple tries...and he just pulls away...I'm seriously ready to put a piece of black tape on my TV where the ASM light blinks...I watch that thing flipping out through the whole time, and watch the whole pack ahead of me gain .5 seconds through every sector...its ridiculous, at least with a DS3...

i did it back when the AI was harder and asm was LOCKED. it was a huge PITA. i ended up winning by .002 after many tries.
