Here are some pics of my setup. I have to thank MartinMaxx for giving me ideas on this. It works sooo awesome, the pedals are on a slant, I can't give pictures of them because the camera sucks so bad. But This is perfect for me.

Excellent cockpit TriplePlay! I am glad to have helped you with my ideas. Driving with this kind of setup is something that every GT fan should try!

There is no better or more economical setup than the one you can build yourself, because you can make it as strong and comfortable as you wish. Besides, it is much more entertaining to have your own project, rather than paying a lot for something you don´t even know if will fit you.

Maybe we can start a new thread so everyone shows their GT cockpits. Many GT fans would find ideas to build their own. What do you think?

Cheers!

@ Tripleplay and Martin: How broad are your cockpits?

mfg
Markus

Total width is 80cm, including armrest (and 56cm between armrests).

My total width is 29", and the wheel is 20 3/4'' off the ground. The chair is bolted to the floor, actually into the carpet underneath ( ), and the chair moves back and forth, both on the floor and the back. It's great. I also copied the ps2/vcr shelf underneath everything. It really helps organize things. Also underneath the 27'' tv is a $500 bose wave radio/cd. Loud, clear sound that fills the room. And it's uber comfy. :D

@ drifty: I like it, great for friends coming over. I'll still take mine over all anyday though :sly:

I think you're being a little overly negative toward the Playseat...yeah, for the money you probably could build something more solid. But to find a quality racing seat (unless you have a junkyard nearby that has ones that aren't ripped and rotted out) will cost you over $100 when you throw in shipping; easily up to $300 for a new one. I'm sure many of you have welding capabilities and power tools to construct something out of wood or steel; I live in an apartment complex and just simply don't. Even if I did, I shudder at hauling up some of the massive assemblies people have up my 4 flights of stairs.

Once it's there, something like that also becomes a permanent fixture of my furniture. I can fold the Playseat up and slip it behind my sofa when guests come over (then again, most of my guests come to play games anyway ;)) Even when it's out, it's definitely noticeable, but doesn't dominate the room.

It's true it does take a bit of finagling to get he pedals to feel really solid, but a bit of time and they're on there for good. Same with the wheel. All for much cheaper and less time then building my own full assembly.

So for the really hardcore people, the ones who will spend 20+ hours a week in that seat, and use it for many other games - go ahead! I'm truly impressed by all of the cockpits I see here. I wish I had the room for something like that, and hopefully one day I will (around the same time I have a real garage, maybe, so I could fix my real car :ouch: ) But for now...the Playseat is a quick, simple solution that makes my gaming more fun. If spending $300 on videogames doesn't make you shudder, then it might be for you.

Any of you UK people will know that motorworld sell preety cheap real car racing seats for less than £70/£100.....those would make good DFP seats for GT4!

Are there any more reviews of the Playseats out there?

I bought the Playseat setup with my GT4. Been using it for about a month and think it's very good for the price.

GOOD POINTS:
Seat itself is very good for the price
Seat folds for easy storage
Driving position is easy to adjust

BAD POINTS:
Not as sturdy as I like (The forcefeedback from the GT Force Pro Steering makes the frame shake too much)
There is no way to put the pedals in a locked position, so the pedals can move around a little, but it's not too annoying. (A thin piece of rubber sheet should do the trick).

This is the first time I bought a racing seat setup for playing driving sims. Before, I just used a regular chair and desk. The Playseats setup is really much better than my previous setup, but I don't know how it would compare to other products out there since I haven't tried anything else.

I bought my playseat for christmas so been using it a bit more than a month now.

I must say that I am still really pleased with it. I ordered it from www.gameorder.nl ...currently being offered for EUR 269.- they ship really fast and also include some stuff with it to prevent the pedals as well as the steering wheel from moving around (this kind of two-sided tap).

I think they have by now a newer version of it and I had absolutely no problems to fix the wheel on the metal plate... sufficient space.

Of course it is not the most stable one out there but when you put the screws really tight it doesn't shake too much and I am playing WRC4 with it at the moment... I am 1m95cm tall and fit perfectly in there without experiencing any back-ache after hours of playing...

As mentioned above another good feature is the fact that you are able to fold it.

Thus, I would really recommend the seat all in all and I don't regret having spent the money for it !

Hi- do any of you guys know a seat called " the Vix racing seat" ?
It`s from the UK, and can be bought for round about 120 EURO`s
I`m from Denmark and have been trying to get the Hyperdrive(AUS) but
I can`t seem to enter their UK site, and ordering from AUS or US is out of the Question because of shipping charges...
The Vix-thing can be bought from online stores in Sweden and Norway but There`s NO pictures of the damn thing anywhere!
Yes I`ve tried Google but NO pictures, and the manufacturer`s site (C&G)only shows
gun cabinets and foldable hunting seats :dunce:
My DFP needs to be fixed(to something)

i'fe seen the playseat @ 1st at campzone (Lanparty in the NL) and they had an adjustment to make it more stable..

See this pic to see a part of my gameroom and GT4 Setup.
Only €45,- to build and small to store.
In the cabinet there's a construction where you can put the wheel on when it's not used. Also the pedals can be adjusted in and outwards.

Btw its not me, but my girlfriend racing

i think im gona order one those playseats, just worried about the stability...

I bought my Playseat last Fall and have spent many hours in it playing GT3 with no troubles. The only thing that bothers me is the sway in the wheel, needs a brace bar coming up to it, but that would make it unadjustable. It's very adjustable, i've had my 5 year old Nephew use it and with no trouble and i'm 6'5" and it fits me well.

i ordered playseat today from logitech hope it comes fast:D

WOW! thas amazing, this is getting dangerous if you crash bad you cant get broken wrist :)

I had one of those vix seats, it does a fairly good job but I gave it away, though it folds down it's still a bit bulky to store and as can be seen from the pictures my tv sits quite high from the floor and that seat plants you right down low, so I made my own solution which my neighbour is trying out (first early version)

the next version improved on a few things

and best of all it folds to less than 3 inches thick so I can store it under the sofa.

i'll get a wheel and build a cockpit when gt5 comes out and i graduate from college and get a proper job....... tuition ate all my wheel/cockpit money.... :(
until then.. DS2 all the way!!!
