Racing softs in rain

I've actually done this quite a lot by accident and found out that they give far more grip than the inters and the rains.... I passed the host and got kicked on the spot for being accused of using tcs, even though he disabled ALL the aids....

RS is the God tire. They seem to last just as long as RH (longer on ovals it seems) and have tons more grip than any other tire, even in the wet. I think they represent some sort of matched qualifying tire....except they last way too long. Seems like a mistake to me.

I think the host must have forgot to set the track condtions to 'real'. When its on real, i believe the racing tyre goes back to being rubbish in the wet.

I agree! It's the same with sports softs and sports hards too, the hards are much more fun but they don't last nearly as long as they should compared to the softs! PD should really fix this because now there isn't really point in running hards instead of softs if you have the choice, they don't last long enough in comparison.

While doing the 24h Le Mans I really did need rain tyres. When it started raining I could just keep using racing soft but I noticed they started losing more and more grip every lap. Then I switched to rain tyres and I had some more grip again (though rain tyres don't really give much grip either). I think it just has to rain for a while before you really notice the grip on racing soft. Was raining for around 5 laps already before they actually started losing grip.

Haven't really tried racing soft in the rain on other races though, maybe it has something to do with tyre wear/fuel depletion being on or off as well.

This used to be the case before the patch.

However a week ago I tried my f12010 in the rain at suzuka and I couldn't even do 1 corner carefully without spinning. Compared to the wets which gave much better wet weather feel.

Definitely. On Real Rain/Edge Grip settings you'd have been straight into the wall.

Not really.

I always set track conditions to realistic and usually host 600PP servers.

Once I did a 600PP race with race cars on my custom track at eifel with dynamic weather.
We were 3 drivers, all three of us quiet evenly matched (My qualifying lap was only 2 tenths slower then fastet lap and I qualified third).

The race started and it was dry, but you could see the clouds. At the end of lap 1, all three cars were close to each other but suddenly it started to raining. I lead the race and pitted immediatly at the end of lap 1, just like the second placed driver, to change tires. I took inters, don`t know which tire the other one took. Back on the track, the car had 0 grip. I always lost 7-9 seconds to the leading car. So I gave up and tested how long it takes for a rain tire to be better then a racing soft tire in rain.
The race lasted 10 laps and I was lapped.

This! All others need not apply.
