Hey guys,

what do you think about the Rally and Ovals aspect of the game so far?
I personally think that both are some sort of testing field for PD and they will monitor how many players actually use these tracks.
But in the long term i kind of dont see them pursuing the rally or oval racing aspect, except they integrate somthing like Nascars and real superspeedways, but not those tiny ovals. I think they are by far the tracks most of the players dont like. And as for Rally: Well, i think the tracks 1) dont look particularly good and 2) the phyiscs seem to me very strange. Its like ice skating.
I would be glad if they stop putting their efforts in these two areas.

the phyiscs seem to me very strange. Its like ice skating.
I feel the same. Rally could be more fun if the physics would feel better.

As for ovals, I actually like the Blue Moon Speedway since it's the longest of the ovals and it has one tricky corner.
Like you I'm missing an oval like the Nascar one GT5 had; the Northern Isle Speedway is way too short imo.

The ovals are just ovals, they're a bit boring but can provide good tight races. There's nothing wrong with them, just not my bag really. (except Northern Aisle, it's garbage!)

But the rally is pretty much broken garbage. I think PD's only reference point for rally must be Sega Rally or something. The tracks do not in any way reflect real world rallying, not even rally cross. The dirt physics are absolutely terrible, it's as if they're driving on slicks tyres. Gravel tyres on gravel give pretty decent levels of grip!
Kaz really needs to go and play Dirt Rally and then hang his head in shame and completely remove rallying from GT. Rally has and always will be terrible in GT games.

Oval racing could be a good thing, if there was enough of them and they were real tracks (or at least better than the current ones) and people learnt to drive or you got a good group together.

Rally on the other hand seems a strange addition when the main focus of GT Sport is all about online racing, which you can't do that well at all with rally tracks, even if it didn't resemble ice skating and the tracks were actually good to drive.

Oval races need to include pit stops, otherwise they become too predictable and tiresome.

Not a fan at all of the rally. I think it could be excluded from the series and no one would really object. Not sure why they keep on insisting that it should be there to begin with. It demands resources that could be spent elsewhere.

I really like the Rally Part a lot and it simulates the feeling pretty well. I mean it’s not about accurate Physics it’s just the feel and the feedback given when driving. It’s the same with the Race Cars it just feels good but no one will really believe that the physics are real. It’s just a game that should be fun to drive and GT is the best in simulating that GT drive feeling either it’s the Race or the Rally Cars. At least for me.Btw it’s the same with the Street Cars people complain that they are horrible to drive and have bad brakes and understeer and are overall no fun to drive but it’s just how GT tries to simulate the feeling of this Cars. I love driving them all no matter if it’s a crappy slow Street Car or a Vision Gt every Car has it’s individual driving Characteristics and you just need to adapt to it.

Not a fan of oval racing, it's not exactly big in europe for a start but also to race on online in GT Sport is absolute chaos from what I have seen so far, also slipstream rules all, far less about talent in my opinion but the strategy to win an oval race can be fun, just not for me.

As for rally i golded all the event in the campaign and haven't or will touch it again since, about as much as i can say about it lol

I don't mind the ovals too much, they're good for a bit of fun against AI. But I would give it a miss online, unless you like losing SR!

Now I'd like to like rally (I mean we have enough GrB cars!), but the fact that every surface seems to be the same sliding mess with ungrippy tires puts me off. More so as I'm still trying to find a second to gold two rally circuits.

Rally is a total and utter waste of resource. The physics are utterly wrong and the tracks are as if someone tried to design a rally cross stage after hearing about one from a penguin that had heard rumours of what rally cross is.

The ovals could be good if they had actually included any cars designed to race at them and had asymmetrical set-ups for the cars, without either they are again pretty much a waste of resource.

Raced the oval in the daily races yesterday, and was ready for an absolute crash fest.....and apart from two slightly dirty drivers in all races I was in, it was pretty much clean.

I even went from a starting DR/C to a DR/B, whilst keeping my SR at S. Even managed a few quickest laps and a couple of wins.

The 'slowness' of the Golf definitely helped keeping the racing clean, but competitive.

But, I am definitely staying away from today's oval race. Did one this lunchtime and it was chaos!

Oval racing could be good, but they need to alter the way SR and penalties work for these type of tracks. Bump drafting results in an SR penalty every time. Me and a friend were trying to work together to catch the lead pack, and he had to take an SR penalty for every single bump.

I don't care for oval racing in real life, but they usually provide for close races in GTS. They aren't my first choice obviously, but I don't mind having a couple in there. The Rally's in GT are completely wasted time and development in my opinion, and until they can get them right I don't think they should be included in any way.

Rally feels like they used the race track surface and just sprinkled grit on it. It feels like frozen ground, no feel at all. Without a realistic 'spongy' feel it's just fake. It might be OK on an Amiga in the 90's but not today with SO many great rally titles to learn from.
Ovals are dead boring but good for griding credits when you are half asleep. They need to include FULL venues instead of just the oval. EG Indianapolis and Daytona both have fun inner tracks so its half/half oval and twisties. So much fun in GT6!
Ovals are simple and boring so the casual gamer can just jump in and go round in circles without having to learn all that tedious stuff, like steering, braking, tuning, stopping etc.. So lobbies and daily oval races are full of (INSERT WORD OF CHOICE HERE}s

The ovals are boring, but I don't consider broad bean an oval, its a great little track and it reminds me of a mini High-speed ring.

If I was calling the shots I'd ditch the rally courses, keep the rally cars and add more gymkhana/autocross stages, including some with rain. As far as the ovals are concerned, like OP said, we need more oval specific cars for them to be interesting, and also as OP said, the very small ovals (Broad bean Raceway in particular, what an annoying shape) just aren't much fun at all. Bring back Daytona and Indy, add some NASCARS, maybe even classic NASCARS to boot, put a championship for it in the new GT mode and hey presto.

Personally I'm sad that the rally part is so bad. Was hoping for an overhaul of what it usually is, maybe add rally x tracks, stages, real group B cars and not some invented GrB category.

I like a few oval tracks and have enjoyed racing online with friends at Daytona in GT6 but we never raced there much. Would like to see it in GTS though.

The 2 weird shape ovals are ok in GTS but could do without Northern Isle...

Was trying to get the 500 mile oval trophy, thought I could get it on Blue Moon. Nope. PD class only Northern Isle as an oval?

The rally physics are a straight import from GT5 and GT6, I feel. Once again, the magical "Half-Throttle Input" will give you most of your scarcely available traction. It can be fun, but when you're actually racing and not grinding drift points, it's pretty poor.

For one thing, I don't remember gravel or dirt having the same surface characteristics as shiny, polished and wet concrete, or ice. Considering that rallying is not a minor part of the game anymore (they were always Special Events of some sort; GT6 gave us perhaps...two actual race events for rallying?), the physics should have been improved instead of being imported from the previous two, hell maybe three games. If anything, the physics are fantastic for grinding drift points, as the physics allow you to sliiiiide and sliiiide about like your car is on ice, but after one million points, then what? Racing? With these physics? Nah.

It really is a shame, especially since the rally courses look absolutely fantastic with the lighting during the afternoon and evening times, and we got three new original courses to boot. We've also got a slew of rally cars. Hey, a Mustang, NSX, and a GT-R all taking it to the ic- I mean, dirt? Count me in.

I've had two personal friends tell me Rally physics are realistic and people who say otherwise are probably kids or people who have never driven. They are actually offended I don't like the game lol. I'm convinced I've worked out why Rally is presented in such a way, wide tracks with multiple cars instead 1 car 1 narrow track. It is to hide the poor physics, they would be even more apparent on a proper rally track and tons of people would be frustrated.

Ovals are just plain boring and regardless of whether physics are arcade or full on sim, it should still try to be authentic, like F1 2017. It shouldn't be just an oval or two with smooth surfaces and no appropriate cars to race on them.

I received the King of the Ovals trophy while driving exclusively on Blue Moon...:)

Damn I've got over 500 miles on that and still nothing. Is it sport mode only? I did it in custom races.

I'll need to double check, I'm probably being an idiot. Again.

Agreed. I absolutely hated the rally challenges in this game. Even in GT5, the dirt physics sucked so bad that it was actually easier to drive in the snow.

The rallying in GT games has always felt like an afterthought. There was always dedicated rally games around to make up for it. Not really feeling any rally games at the moment, haven't since Dirt 2 which was really fun! Dirt Rally was alright but wasn't feeling the whole "lets make this game as tough as possible" approach.

FOR ME, these ovals and rally circuits are a real sore spot on the game.
We don’t have proper cars for ovals or even proper ovals. I’m baffled by the exclusion of Daytona, Indy and Motegi. Replaced by the likes of northern isle and B.B.? Really??? Daytona, Indy we could run the infield. (Perhaps listening issues?). I dunno. I’m not “feeling” the oval racing like I have in the past. Also, I don’t love or hate Blue Moon. I just need the right group to run with.
I’ve spoken about how I feel about the rally part of this game in other threads. I won’t go further than saying it’s bad.

I did it while trying to gold the Mission Stage 8 / 6 at Blue Moon...it took me a while and 5 car changes and almost 800 total miles before I finally got Gold. The trophy popped up towards the end and just before I won gold...

I really do not understand the Kaz put OVALS and RALLYS on. It was preferable to put RED ROCK VALLEY and HIGH SPEED RING. Rally sucks. It was preferable to put Rally Cross, as it was done in PC2.
