What driving aids to you use, or dont use when you're rally racing? To me having traction control defeats the purpose. Any tips...

All aids off seems to work best. It did for me and I'm not much of a rally racer! Good luck.

ABS doesn't really work properly on rally tracks. It's a little bit more controllable but doesn't seem to be any faster.

All aids off except ABS: 1. Brake early & try not to drift too much. With a straigt line you will get more traction to the ground. 👍

That sounds logical, I find myself trying to drift too much and then I'm on the wall disqualified. Its frustrating as hell!

For 4WD, everything off except ABS on 1, for RWD, Skid Recovery Force and ABS, as RWDs are more prone to spinning out than 4WD (obviously)

Make sure that TCS is off, because the first time I tried rallying, I got owned by the AI in the first stage.

all aids off abs set @ 1 and if you can use the RM function to set the torque split to 50/50 or 40/60 (this setting will reset everytime you end then restart a challange so if your doing badly just restart and the things you adjusted should still be ok) :)

Same as everything else. All aids of ABS at 1.

I keep just abs on 1 if I'm using a ds3 and everying off of I'm using a wheel.

all aids off. the sooner you do that the better you'll be at it early on and you'll find abs doesn't change too much and is better left off.

personally, when i leave them all off i find that as long as im not trying to brake and turn, the car brakes and is very stable. find a good braking point and stick to it.

although online physics are much easier to control (ignoring idiots smashing up against walls) with abs 1 on, as you just tap the brake mid turn and you can basically drift every turn with ease.

all in all, offline all off, online abs-1 only. srf and tcs is just pointless and WILL HOLD YOU BACK.

Well I will just say what everyone else did All aids off ABS 1.
But for me, setting torque distribution to 50/50 had a huge impact on my times (in a good way).

ABS I always raised, even as high as 5, make your brake balance heavier in the front, set 4WD to 45/55 or even 50/50.
Now slide as little as possible, and remember exits are more important then entry.
In GT5, rallying is more about being careful than anything.

Also how about steering sensativity(DS3)? I've been using 7, maybe thats too much?

you shouldnt have to use any aids for rally, i try to have my torque distrubution to 50/50 instead of my usual 20/80...it helps the car not to drift so much.

steering sensitivity is perfectly fine at 7.

adding onto what cslacr previously mentioned, if you're running a 4wd vehicle playing around with the torque distribution while keeping the front anywhere from 40-50 is a good idea. brake balance is another good thing to mess with, although i personally prefer more power in the rear.

however, if you're running a ds3, i would highly suggest mapping the throttle and brake to the right analog stick. without a doubt, having as precise control over your throttle is the best thing you can do in an offroad situation. unless you're running an evo, exits should preferably be taken with little throttle as you pass through the exit and steadily push more into the throttle, as you would with most rwd cars or cars on the track ;D angle is also extremely important. going sideways into any turn is something you should rarely ever want or have to do, as it will cost you speed, time, and a clean exit. a popular example of this is with (dont flame me please) ken block. last year he was pulling terrible results due to his tendencies to pull turns going sideways cuz lets face it, they look and feel badass, however, this year, he learned to correct that mistake and has found himself pulling up results 10 positions! higher than last years... although that could be due to many things, im sure the fact he treated each turn properly shaved seconds off.

and yes, rallying is all about precision (again, clean entrances and exits are key) and being careful. assuming you aren't being purposely collided with. you'll notice this when you're running a standard wrc car against gt-rs, for example, and while you're playing clean they're wrecking their cars and you can pull away from the pack with ease.

rant over, please lemme know if im off on any info. im just a kid with some decent rally experience, im no expert, and would actually very much appreciate criticism and advice.

Nope, pretty much spot-on.
Though in the little "hotlapping" time I had in rallying in GT5, I found 50/50 the fastest, (as did the fastest guys I think) but harder to drive.

Thanks for the tips peoples, hopefully I'll improve my crappy rally skills

haha well you definately receive major brownie points in my opinion and in the opinions of many if you aren't one of the immature little kids smashing everything up or driving your pick 'em up trucks... :)
