Rally events wastes too much time

I find the way rally races are implemented wastes a lot of time, each round you must wait for all 3 other cars to go first, that is a whooping 30 seconds before it is your turn, I see no good reason for this setup whatsoever. why cant our driver be the first to go? it is not like he gets an advantage for doing so.

I wanted to try more cars in the rally race, but with map loading time already horrendous, I just couldnt stand killing my life 8 x 30 seconds for each race.

Anyone else feel the same?

I'm hoping some of the season events will be rallys at some point. More would be nice. I found I finished all of the rally events way to quickly. I guess NASCAR fans could say the same thing. Personally though, I detest NASCAR.

Dont forget the 3mins between the like 10 events you have to do on expert >.<

personally, i think the entire game just moves too slowly. I am sure there have been enough rambles about the piss poor interface design. Most of my time in GT5 is spent waiting for screens to load, waiting for the game to autosave, waiting for it to get a response from the server, waiting waiting waiting. God forbid that you accidentally click on GT Auto, because then my friend you are in for a good minute before you can get back to the GT Life menu

The NASCAR event where you have to pit first and then try the event...that is a huge waste of time...a full minute before you can even start, and then you are going to fail a couple times (most people), blah.

A couple minutes here and there. Think about all the waiting in real motorsport.

Though speaking of rally I was pretty disappointed with the events at first. First of all there aren't nearly enough and so far (I've done all but the very last ones where you need an actual rally car, I have one just haven't bothered to do them yet) most of them are really not good at all. A rally stage that takes 40 seconds to complete and is mostly straight? Please.

Loose surface rallying has always been a lot about rhythm. The corners come thick and fast and there really aren't that many long straights in between (sure rallying is done all over the world there are millions of stages each unique but IN GENERAL they have a lot more corners than the ones in GT).

The alaska stages started to look more like rallying but then an another problem came up: the AI can't rally! Sure they weren't driving actual rally cars (not at this level, I haven't done the expert rallies yet) but they're so scared of a little sliding action they slow right down for the corners and take them at a walking pace. In every stage with more than 4 corners I slid sideways past all three cars on the stage and ended up finishing the rally 1.5 minutes ahead of everyone else.

Also, when can we host online rallies?

They need like a skip button, like press start and the game moves ahead with you about to launch. Same with the NASCAR pitstop challenge.

After you've just waited for the track to load, it is pretty ridiculous to then make you wait for your turn in line to come up. I got my trophies for finishing the rally events, but I have no intention of going back to them because of all the waiting.

Same with the Seasonal cut scenes (or race preamble, if you will).

They could quite easily have brainstormed about 50 new A-Spec events in the time it took to create one Seasonal intro scene.

Yeah but those you watch once and that it. This is every stage of every rally you just sit and wait.

I have to admit It really got on my nerves after a while, to the point that If I wanna rally I'll play Dirt 2 rather than do this, especially because there is no XP or monetary compensation for beating it a second time.

I think the Rally part of the game is sorely lacking in any inspiration or realism. By the time I reached expert, I was beating the competition by minutes, and I wasn't having fun at all. The main problem I have with it are the tracks. They look very little like real country roads (kind of the whole point of WRC to me), and they're basically flat, wide racetracks with a thin layer of loose sand thrown over them. If you want to experience rally racing, there are better alternatives to GT5. In the future I hope PD sticks to what it knows best.

Only a few more months until Dirt 3! I know the couple have been a bit arcade-y, but now that they've acquired the WRC license, I'm hoping for a bit more realism.

I was going to reference that, except I think it was actually more than a minute. I had expected it would simply pick up right at the moment you're coming onto the track, rather than the Barker job DP done with it by actually making you take a nap or grab a bite to eat while waiting through the whole pit sequence... every single time you do the event.

Same as X2010 challenge. Many people will probably try 1000 times; 8 seconds of waiting 1000 times is over 2 hours of just waiting for the other car to go 1st!

Just like the rally, it's cool the first couple of times then it's annoying!

Doesn't anybody remember Driving Mission 34?

Waiting for 2 freaking minutes!!!

If you were first to go, you have to wait until the last car finishes for a "real time". So either way, you'll have to wait.

Takes me a LOT more than just once to get 1st place on those events... especially if you try to do them with as FEW upgrades and assists as is humanly possible. Every time I miss out on getting 1st, I got to sit through the whole preamble again...

Maybe if you just slap every upgrade on and go beat the event by a lap or so, sure. But where's the fun in THAT?!

Yes OP, I felt exactely the same. This is one more absolutely nonlogical decision PD made, it's just super ennoying. And besides that, I find the GT rally races very boring, the tracks design remembers me of Sega Rally...on the Sega Saturn.

I too was disappointed in the events. Not nearly enough, of well, anything really

.I think a good mix of racing, rally and NASCAR would have been a good idea if there were MORE of each. Maybe a 50/25/25% type thing.

The key phrase I think for everyone is MORE stuff to do and less waiting times. It's almost like PD concentrated on more cars, premium cars and not so much on things to actually do with them. If this is "perfect" than I must not understand the word. ;)

I miss GT3's rally events. :( At least the license tests in that one felt more like what we have to deal with now, but after the license you were able to do some head-to-head dirt racing.

The 90's model Subaru WRX rally car was the best. I loved the control in that car.

I don't understand why they chose to not use the well-made rally courses (Chamonix, for example) in the rally events, but instead the randomly generated ones that look like some of the rally games I played in the 1990s.

Heh, my game plan in GT3 was gold all licenses then gold all rally events and used the bunch of rally cars to dominate the lower leagues. GT3 had some sick rally courses too (Tahiti Maze!).

Ahh sorry, For some strange reason I read your comment too fast and thought you meant the "Special Event Cutscenes" like zombie Jeff Gordon.

I agree that whole watching your car drive by a couple of times gets old VERY fast. I try to do them all stock, so I end up retrying a lot.

That said though the Rally one is longer and the rally stages are (in some cases) so short, then you have to wait through the finish load, then the next level load, then the 3 cars ahead driving off. It realllllly annoying.

Yay! I loved both DiRTs so far. I hope they do more stage Rally racing than they did in the second one. Does acquiring the WRC license come with the real-world tracks they use every year, because that would be awesome!

You bought slip on shoes so you don't "waste time" tying your shoelaces didn't ya ?

It's not so much the waiting for the cars to go that bothers me, it's the loading times for stupidly short stages. A couple of times, I waited for a minute or two for the stage to load, only for it to be a straight blast for 30 seconds.

The times are seriously fudged as well. Rally mode cheats...

There's loads of examples of this in GT. I don't get why they do it. GT4 was particularly bad for it I seem to remember. Mission 34 was it? With the SLR.

It's particularly frustrating, because the actual driving is awesome.

Absolutely, kids these days just do not know how lucky they are !

It is actually one of the few times that GT5 actually gives a real sense of atmosphere, though after a few times I admit it does get boring. When you consider the XP awards for gold though, the wait is worth it.
