I've been doing the Rally special events now, and emerged an angry, bitter man.

In general, the gravel stages were impossible, and the snow stages were so easy it was ridiculous. This despite me driving pretty well on gravel and terrible in the snow.

And yes, after a ridiculous amount of trying and failing, I found that if I changed the torque distribution from 30/70 to 50/50, the gravel stages became as easy as the snow stages.

But there is no proper logical reason for it to be like that is there? Surely the snow stages should benefit even more from a 50/50 distributiuon?

Also, what's with the high beam working fine during daytime stages, but front lights being completely shut off during the dark night stages? Have PD been drunk when they designed the races?

And another thing, if you're going to have a co-driver reading you driving notes, make sure he reads out everything, and in a similar manner all the time. The number of times he's told me "4 right" and it was a "2 left"... have PD been hung over when they designed the co-driver?

All in all, what could have been a fun little sub-part of the package has turned out to be quite terrible and badly thought out. Yes, I golded all events, but it wasn't much fun in the end.
 
I had the opposite feelings about the rally experience. I enjoyed the races, and wish there were more race events (that actually pay credits).

Also, I never changed the setup of the cars. Maybe its because I drive with a wheel.
 
Gran turismo rally is easy. I didn't change my setup and finished over 1 minute ahead overall.

Loeb challenge on snow was quite difficult for me... Until I adjusted the distribution to 50/50.
 
I think all of the stages are too easy... The roads are too wide, there aren't many bumps or ruts, and there aren't many difficult turns.
 
The gravel stages weren't hard at all... only the Loeb challenges were tough, because of the excessive slip, but I passed it easily once I was told to just drive slow.

I never rely on pace notes, but only on the map, never adjusted any of my car's settings except for a stage 2 turbo once in a while.
 
the one thing that annoys me about rally races....

the stupid map in the middle of my view.

and their arent enough of them. once you beat them, they dont pay anymore, so there is no point to race them again.
 
Loeb challenge is the only hard rally in the game. I still can't beat the alpine one I just tap the wall and it's over. I tried so long, but just none stop fail
 
The only thing that irritated me was that the roadmap was in the center of the view. Why!?
 
Update: I golded the two first Loeb challenges on my 3rd and 4th attempts. Much easier than the ordinary gravel stages with 30/70.

I don't know what the setup for the Loeb challenge is though, because unlike what's said above, you can't change those settings on this challenge.

Now for the snow stage.

EDIT: Snow stage slightly harder than the first two, but golded it on my 10th or so try.

I still think the gravel stages on the rally event with 30/70 are much much harder than the loeb event.

The Advanced rallies were somehow easier than the Intermediate and the Beginner.

Or maybe it's the Delta S4 that ripped the competition.
 
rally events are really easy.

i just hated the rally tacks of GT5, so unreal!! they should do more narrows real life stages.
 
The worst thing about the rallies is the lack of grip. If you've ever driven on a medium-wide gravel road which is in good condition, you'll know what I mean. Even though you drive far faster in GT than IRL, you don't lose grip while driving 90 km/h on a gravel road, unless the road is really bad and dry.

That's one thing the WRC games got right that GT hasn't.

Totally agree with this.

Modern rally cars with proper tires have decent amount of grip on gravel and snow. In GT5 rallying feels mostly like driving on ice with standard tires.
 
I don't really care for the rally in gt5. I think they got it all wrong. There are way better games out there that do rally 100x better than gt5. It's just like the tire model they have come up with. It's horrendous.

Once I finally figured out the golden setup, I decimated the rally. But you can't do it with just what is said for it to be done with. Impossible.

What's sick, is that I would still rather play ralli sport challenge on xbox than live through gt5 rally.
 
I really miss the rallycross style tracks from the previous games, especially gt2 and gt3. Gt4 didn't impress me much with the horrible penalties for hitting the opponent car....and GT5 has taken a further step in the wrong direction IMO.
 
There were a couple of the rally stages in GT2 that I loved taking on in a Lotus Elise - only had 300hp, but cornering in it was a dream
 
Oh, and the ridiculous inconsistency of the barrier impact penalties, sometimes you bare touch the edge of the road and you're penalised, other times you slide sideways at 100 kmh into the barrier and you're allowed to go on with no penalty.
