Rally stages

Didn't see anything about this. But am I (and my friends) the only ones who wish there were online rally races with stages, like in the special event (and real life)? It is a PITA to follow someone in a gravel or snow event. That is why they are separated in real life. It would be a riot to have 8-10 ppl racing in a 5 stage event. Maybe they are working on this, but it seems pretty obvious to me. Sorry if this has already been posted. But, I didn't see anything right off.

A bunch of us in the GT Academy forums to this. So yes, it has been done. I'd love to start up a series but don't have the time for it.

for the love of God yes i have been DYING for something like that. of course even then, the stages kinda suck... but i agree entirely. lol. the courses here arent that great for online.

dirt 3 is the only alternative for now... :/

YES. Like R1600 said they do stages, but I've been bugging me and my friend to start a rally league to do stuff like this. We need to justify the WRC cars lol.

I mean it's incredibly easy to setup up. Do like 5 stages on a race night, randomly generated each time to make it fair (and exciting!), heavy damage, heavy penalties, no aids, and there you go :)

Actually, I still need to talk to my buddy about the rally league. If it takes off I'll give you his PSN so you can run with us.

Who does stages? I've been thru the game, and have never seen anything in the online screens about any rally tracks that incorporate stages. I see a few rally tracks, but none I've seen are anything other than lap tracks. Please explain.

Well what we do is one driver alone goes onto the track and starts a 1 lap race, then we repeat that for everyone and then we record the times for each "stage" (each stage is a track), we switch "stages" then repeat. It's actually very fun because you need to balance controlled speed but you can't crash because dirty laps are discarded and heavy damage is on. You only get one shot and all the lobby is spectating (usually, unless they're tuning) so it's even more pressure. I enjoy it :) We haven't done one in a while tho, that's why I want to start a rally league. When I get on today I'm gonna message my buddy about it.

So this is a work-around. And someone has to sit and tally up all the times. Since they have actual stages in the Special Events screen, it should be straight forward for them to set up an actual online event. It also sounds time consuming for everyone to run individual laps, instead of running 15 or 30 sec apart. PD could make this so much easier, if they would just make the existing stages playable online. Plus, you get the "co-driver" giving corner directions...even if they aren't always exactly accurate. Don't get me wrong, you are clever to find a way around this. But it shouldn't be necessary, since the stages already exist.

It wasn't me, it was the boys in the GT Academy subforum, but I agree it's clever :P

And yes I agree it's very saddening...it's making me play games like Dirt 2 which is an arcade game next to GT5 but it actually has more than 2 rallys :(

And it is a little time consuming, about 10 minutes for 6 guys to run but it's worth it if you have an entertaining and skilled group of friends. I discussed having everyone start on the line at once and then just delay by like 15, 30, 45 seconds to have a nice gap and save a LOT of time, plus that's more like a real rally, but everyone would jump the gun. We could just then save all the replays, then assign time penalties to whoever jumps, or just have a spectator "referee"
I just realized how good of an idea tho that the replays are. Like the league admin, weather it be me or whoever can just save all the replays and just like in the WRC if you screw something up (cough cough Henning Solberg jumping start) we can either go hardcore WRC style and add 10 seconds, but that'd be a bit unreasonable because their stages are 10x the length of ours lol. We can just take all the time that they jumped it by and multiply it by 2. I think that's fair because if you jump it by .7 seconds, you get a 1.4 second penalty which isn't much but it's devastating on a 4km stage.

This would only work in an organized league race tho, not so much as a random group where rally usually equals demolition derby in their heads.

We tried this today, and ppl keep losing their connection to the room. We are going to try again later, and see if it was just a fluke. I rcvd your invite, but we were already running. I'll get back to you. If you folks are clean racers (which I suspect you are), we can expand our circle of friends and know that the races will be fun (and clean).

Damn you guys were racing? I was gonna join but I figured since it was your lounge it was private. But yeah I am very clean. I may not be the fastest always but people who I often race with know I have very good car control, i've been literally side by side through turns with people and no bumps so yes I'm squeaky clean :)

Try WRC the Game, point to point stages, graphics not really today's standard, but the driving and experience sure is.

haha i apologize, i completely forgot about that game. mainly cuz its so difficult to obtain in america around where i live for w.e reason xD

but yes, WRC the game is also a good alternative, albeit with its few flaws.

Apologies accepted : )
Didn't realise WRC was hard to obtain in the US. When reading all of the hassle you guys are going through to set up a championship, than WRC the Game really is a good alternative. On line stages, rallies or championships work like a charm. If you are really into WRC (and J-WRC, P-WRC, Group B), the game deserves a chance.

Yeah for some reason that game is absurdly expensive in the US. I tried to obtain copies of it as well but I wasn't willing to pay 60+ dollars for a game that might be good, has a rep to be bad, and is old and will be replaced this year by a better one.

Old ? It is from october 2010. Shame It is expensive, Over here I have seen some discounts, costs about 30-40 euro. And believe me, the game is good. And It is played a lot online, If you set up a lounge It is filled within minutes with skilfull drivers. I think that says something, why aren't they playing GT5 ? I know why. I play GT5 too, but not for rally (or F1)

Oh my apologies I thought it was from 2009. You make it sound so tempting :D

Sorry :) But that is how I really feel about the game. Underrated by many, but so much fun If you dare to look further than the menu's and graphics.
They also added a cool feuature. When participated on line, you can check the website the day after to see your position, lap times for a chosen stage and distance travelled.

www.wrcthegame.com , check the stats page.

Sweet man. Gonna try and pick up a copy if I find the money around my house haha. I heard that it's better for hardcore fans as it isn't really for the general public as much as dirt two or NFS is but I consider myself a hardcore fan so let's hope I can find a cheap copy of it :)

Sorry, I totally missed the point here, I thought you were talking about the current WRC game. To be honest, I haven't heard of the 2011 version. What I wanted to say is, get the 2010-version. As the 2010 version was released in october, I doubt a 2011 version will be released sooner than october, so getting 2010 is still worthwile.

Edit; end of November I see, I wonder where they got the info from, can't find another source for the 2011 game ?

Yeah well amazon told me it's released in march now it's starting to sound like a scam. I'm most likely just going to pay some UK guy ten extra dollars and get it from him
