so did I ;) sometomes GT4 is really TOO hard.

For the professionals and fanatics: Don`t you now say practice makes perfect, you must learn tracks, you must get to know your cars etc.!! I JUST WANNA DRIVE! I love cars, racing and all that, but I don`t want to spend 3 hours just to find the best possible way "to pass the third turn better, so that I could brag with 0,0012 better time!" Let everyone play the way they like, even if that is bumping other cars! :)
 
It has to be said that the "5 Second Penalty" isn't an innately bad thing, but it is shockingly implemented.

You drive into a wall. You get a 5s penalty. Fair enough.
You drive into an opponent. You get a 5s penalty. Fair enough.
Your opponent scythes across the track and nails into you. You get a 5s penalty. Err... hang about...
Your opponent just piles into you mid-corner. You get a 5s penalty. Whu?
Your opponent rattles down the walls of Citta di Aria, Grand Canyon, Chamonix and George V like Maltesers in a fat man's oesophagus and gets off scot-free. Get the **** out of here!


By all means punish crappy driving, but sauce for the goose, PD. Sauce for the frickin goose.

Everytime i pass the 🤬 er, he cuts across and bumps me and i get the 🤬 penalty? PD, do the letters FO mean anything to you?? :dopey:
I believe there was 3 game programmers for this game, a guy who just got lucky/for the way too easy tasks, a guy who had a date that night/for the more realistic tasks and a 🤬 impotent 🤬 who decided to make everyone else as pissed as him!?👎 👎 PD, please fire the S.O.🤬 i bet that guy worked for D. Trump?👎
BTW, i'm also stuck on mission 10 :(
 
You can ride off the walls and not get a penalty too. Just ride with your quarter panel and not your nose. I've never got a penalty from getting in from behind, it's almost like there's a sensor in the nose of your car and no where else.
 
I guess it would have helped if I had had a rally car.

Special condition hall completed in a 375 hp version of my full mod R32. well, the dirt and snow ones anyway.
 
At first I thought gravel/snow rallies in GT4 sucked - they were to ****ing freaking hard! But now, after I've completed them all in easy (and I guess I could do it in normal too), I feel I've got some practice and I'm better. Still, it's hard and it sucks compared to Richard Burns Rally ;)

Edit: And oh yeah. The penalty system sucks. Sometimes when the AI opponent smashes me, I get the penalty. I don't accept this. It's making me :crazy: :grumpy:

it sucks. nothing real.
to finish your races in first, sugest to use the walls. penalty is given only if u hit the front of the car.
 
I would've been fine if wasn't for the dreaded 5 secs penalty. grand canyon is hard enough already...that 5 secs just adds more insult 🤬
 
I used my tuned Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spec-C through all those rally races, and it's not that hard, except that wet hard Tsukuba, no way you can overtake a 787B or Sauber C9 with an Impreza. My tip is to use the handbrake to slide the tail of your car so you even if you're going to hit the wall, you won't hit it head-on ---> no penalty, and also tail sliding gives better drifting with 4WD.

no, of course.
but i have some experience as a rally driver, and basing on this i can tell u what i think. only this. if u think gt4 rally is real good, good for you.

Do you think it's MORE or LESS "real" than GT3's rally mode?
 
The main thing is alot of the tracks are much narrower (but swiss alps is still superhighway wide.). If the rear hits the wall your fine, and I admit it is difficult on teh narower city tracks to overtake without getting the penalty but here are my two tips.

1) Overtake ASAP, even if that means setting your gear box for it, or overtake in the slow bends where you can slip down the inside.

2) If you are on the narrow tracks and incure a penalty while over taking just try and block the opponent. Dirty, but there aren't many places for you to go. :sly:

gt4 is more real than gt3. including rally mode. but gt rally mode is like to drive on soap. and its not really real for me.

Presumably three different grades of soap, since the physics for Tsukuba wet, Whistler/Chamonix and the dirt tracks are all different from one another?

i am talking about dirt tracks. i never drove on snow, but i think they only put a little more soap. :)
 
What's so damn realistic about that 5sec penalty anyway? Racing on a closed dirt track with more than one car is caled rallycross. Real rallycross is close contact racing but you dont see them driving 50km/u for 5 seconds each time they hit each other.
 
The first time I started racing a rally, it occurred to me exactly what was up. Not only did the paved surface physics go back to a GT2 style model (which was an improvement IMO as the GT3 engine didn't handle weight transfer well), but apparently the rally mode physics regressed to GT2 style as well. Now I'm not quite sure which is technically more realistic (though I have a really hard time believing that rally tires have so little grip on a car as they do in GT2/4, since it handles like a real car does on gravel when using crappy street tires), but I do know that the GT2/4 rally model is much more difficult than the GT3 rally model (which was probably a bit too grippy, to be honest).

Regardless, I'd be 1000x less annoyed by GT4's rally mode if the 5-second penalty was only implemented more fairly. I've already had several occurences, where I get spun around and the other car slams into the front of my car (as I'm sideways) and I get a 5-second penalty for it! :grumpy: Even more frequent is the I pass him in a straight, but at the last second he veers into me (following the stupid AI's never-deviated-from racing line) so I slow to a crawl for 5-seconds despite the fact that he turned into me, not the other way around.

Like Famine mentioned above: If I slam into the wall, a penalty is fine. If I slam into the other car, a penalty is fine. If a car slams into me, or rear-ends me and sends me into the wall (which I wouldn't have otherwise hit), then I should not get a penalty, unless he gets the same penalty treatment as well.

Agreed, if you are going to simulate rally in a game but want head-to-head action, use a ghost car as the opponent as real rallies are TIME based, not wheel-to-wheel. In a real rally, you don't have to strategize where to pass as there isn't another car to pass unless you the car ahead of you is going so slow that you made up the gap from the staggered start. If you insist on the wheel-to-wheel action, then don't call it rally and don't penalize the players for car-to-car impacts (which will happen on tight courses with multiple cars...period).

I'd managed to do all the rallys apart from Tahiti and Grand Canyon both hard. I tweaked the car (the Mitsubishi Super Rally Car) through tips on here, and managed to do Tahiti (took all the hairpins in second gear), but I couldn't manage Grand Canyon - I'd gain on the straights, but lose ground on the bends. I didn't think I was ever going to be able to beat it.

So today I did each of the Grand Canyon races again (Easy, Normal and Hard) keeping note of how the car handled and in what way it got more difficult. The exercise led me to changed just two settings: I moved the gears up one click (15 to 16) and stiffened the the rear springs. Bingo! The back end stopped sliding out from behind me and I was able to pump the accelerator to get around the tight bends. The other car was chasing my ass all the way around, but man, did it feel good to cross that finish line in first! :)
