you said it milefile, this guys an ass (arse)...

Your right, you did say contrary, and as of third grade, I'm aware of what it mean's.

As you imply, "certain people that think, oh there is a muslim, quick run, he's probably got a bomb strapped to his waist."

I wouldn't call that a "popular belief." Or, maybe you don't understand what popular means? That's what we call an "accusation."

If I live in Japan, and I've never been to America, and all I see on t.v are people killing each other, on a daily basis, and not by "normal" mean's, I'm going to think that place is crazy. By normal I mean, a gun or knife. Not an entire Ambulence filled with a thousand pound's of explosive's.

What do you expect people to think?

Intelligent people just expect people to think. When they do they tend not to say assinine things, as a general rule.

This feeble attempt to rationalize your use of bigoted generalizations is pretty funny 👍

I try to keep it simple for 1 dimensional people such as yourself Mile.

Your insight's on my post's are greatly appreciated. Thank you

contrary to popular belief, not everyone that celebrates the holy month of Ramadan is a suicide bomber my friend
Actually, it's a legitimate question. Some of the people who celebrate Ramadan are suicide bombers. Will the holy month increase or decrease the number of fanatics willing to give their lives? He didn't say that all muslims were fanitical idiots. I really don't know what you're all getting so worked up about.

EDIT: I seem to be on the verge of starting a flame war in response to things said earlier

Deleted.

sorry for what i said man. I coulda been less rude

When I made it I was making it as a joke and a serious thing but some people didn't see it that way. So I took it down but thanks for defending me.

No. What I am saying is that there are people who'll use any occasion to do something terrible.

I'm not insulting any religion just to clarify.

Context and timing need to be taken into consideration. When a thread about Christmas is started you're unlikely to find a post that says "Does this mean fat ugly Americans will dillute themselves and their culture with consumerism and greed even more than usual?" When you see a thread about Halloween you don't see posts that read "Does this mean obese Christian American kids will gorge themselves on candy or will they just choke on razor blades?" But in this thread, the second post was a reference to suicide bombings and people are trying to justify it. It's ridiculous. It's obviously not justifiable. The thread is about Ramadan, not suicide bombings. The inability to think about the two seperately indicates mental deficiency at best, and at worst, ignorance and insensitivity.

joke or not, we tend to take that stuff seriously because you will never see anything good being said on the news about muslims. it seems that they are TRYING to make us look bad so that comment just really pissed me off.

as an example, here's a joke i got in email sometime back...tell me how true this is:

MEDIA POWER

A man was in New York's central park, when a dog went wild and
attacked a young boy. The man was able to grab the dog by the neck, pulling it off the boy and choking it to death. A reporter for the NY Times comes to interview him, congratulating him on his act of heroism. He suggests the headline: New Yorker saves the life of a young boy! But," the man told him, "I'm not from NY." Ok, then how about: American hero saves the day. But," the man told him, "I'm not American". Then, where are you from? asked the reporter. I'm from Pakistan," the man answered.

The next day the headlines read:

MUSLIM FUNDAMENTALIST STRANGLES DOG IN CENTRAL PARK .
FBI INVESTIGATING POSSIBLE LINKS TO AL QAEDA.

Thank you milefile, you have gotten the point of my sarcastic post...at least someone is on the ball today...

by saying 'contrary to popular belief' i was sincerely hoping that it wasnt popular belief!

No it isn't a legitimate question. He's made it clear that it was a joke gone horribly wrong. The obvious implication is that all muslims are "fanitical idiots," and it's sad that people try to justify it.

are u saying that the people who did that are muslims?

btw...don't christians go out and rob ppl and **** too on christmas/easter? doesn't EVERY religion have it's bad people? aren't there extremists in every religion?
THEN WHY THE **** DO U GENERALIZE US FOR A ****ING LAND DISPUTE IN A REGION YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT?

jeeze...bring this damn thread back on topic

Emad, you need to calm down. Just ignore thoughtless comments like that. I've taken heat at school for being muslim and the best way to deal with it is to let it roll off your back. It'll die down sooner or later.

Sorry, couldn't help it. :p

_____________

Anyway, for pete's sake, some of you need to calm down and some of you just need to clam it.

So, let's go back to the original intention of the thread to celebrate this holiday for all of our Muslim GTP members.

i'm highly irratable when i'm hungry :p. even more so when it's my day off from school and i'm bored out of my mind. i've taken heat for having grown up in houston (everyone expected me to act like a hick). i've taken heat for being pakistani because of racist teachers (prior to 9/11).

my solution has normally been to ignore it till they tear the last thread (that takes about a month of work for even the worst of dumbasses)...then i go into a blind rage...sorta like the hulk did :p. luckily that hasn't happened in 3 years.

but when ppl give muslims heat...especially now...it's easy to get ticked off. they're basing it off of crap they don't know and so show their true stupidity. then the blatant rudeness of some comments...that's just pushing it and i can't easily ignore something like that.

Hyperbole. But why people cant distinguish between Muslim and Fundamentalist; I dont know.

Eeew. Fundies give me the creeps.

Oh well, there's 2004, right?

So Muslims... how goes the fast?

I was thinking that it's probably not a coincidence that Ramadan falls when it does. Could you imagine if it was in June/July. Ouch.

pffft,.. 30 days,..

I used to fast from the day after Thanksgiving till the end of the first week in March,.... ate one orange a day (if I was lucky) with 3 sips of water,.... it's called making weight for wrestling. Kind like religion,... your "takin one for the team".

I used to fast for a week at a time, no food at all. Only water. It would be difficult to explain why, but I can say it makes you very focused on your physiology, psychology, and being in general.

for me...alright...today was killer since during my first class was cancelled so my friend and i spent half an hour going down to this place that sold games at unbelievably low prices. then, 1 hour there, then another 45 minutes back. he had lunch but his braces were just tightened so he took 30 minutes to eat a sub (damn that looked good :p). then we had about 10 minutes to get to class and we were a 20 minute walk away, so we ran...carrying our 6 pound laptops and about 10 pounds in other stuff on our shoulders through the middle of downtown. then a boring 3 hour lecture that gave me a killer headache...then i finally got to eat that delicious looking sub :p

actually...it IS a coincidence that it's this time of year if u think about it. Islam is based on the lunar calendar which, correct me if i'm wrong, is about 15 days shorter than our solar calendar. that means, ramadan starts/ends that many days earlier every year. so...about 10-15 years from now, i WILL be fasting in summertime...ouch.
