Random choice when winning cars.

we all know that in GT3 in some races the PS2 would choose at random a car for you to win. which tends to suck, especially after a long endurance race when you hope to win a GT-one and you get a bone stock WRX. so do you guys think they should do this concept again in GT4. i hope not i liked how it was in GT2 where each race had one car to win. now one thing i liked in GT3 is that you could win a car only once. unlike in GT2 you could keep winning a certain race to get a $200,000 car and keep selling it. makes the game to easy. so what you guys think about the random choice concept for winning cars. should it be in GT4 or not?

Me personally don't like the idea of it picking for you. I hope they change this in GT4, so maybe something like they show the cars you can pick at the end of each race and just select one :) . I would have to agree about the GT2 version and how its to easy lol. So yeah show the cars and let us pick 👍

i would like to pick the car myself, but overall i like how it was in GT2. one car for each race.

p.s. yes go wolfpack nightkid86, we are doing kinda bad this year, no bowl game for us!

I think it would be interesting if you chose the car before the race and it altered the AI accordingly, similar to Project Gotham 2. You set the difficulty level and are rewarded appropriately - so switch it and choose the reward.

If the prize car was selectable everyone would pick the best car first off. Thats only Human Nature.
Being Randdomm gives an element of suspense and as John MB said a while back increases the emotional part of the game.

Or how about you don't select, but the result is based on your performance. Using a formula that incorporates finishing points and number of fouls could be interesting.

The GT2 prize system was a money tree that didn't stop growing (Specifically, that one Red Rock Valley race...). It was kind of lame if you ask me. A million credits for 15 minutes of racing? Give me a break...

I think they should keep the randomness, but make it fairer. Having a Miata and F1 in the same prize pool was rediculous. They should make all the cars in the prize pool for that race/championship be of about equal value and/or performance. It should also take into consideration what cars you already own (or at least which ones you've already won from that race). I think chosing your prize car would cheapen the experience of winning and quash the feeling of anticipation. Why do you think they also give you cash to spend?

Or it might be kind of neat if they awarded you a random car from the prize pool, then made all four of them available for purchase at the dealers if they weren't already.

I don't know that a merit-based prize system would work so well. I mean it would be well and good for the people just trying to get the best car, but imagine the frustration it would cause the car collectors. They'd have to try to figure out the algorithm it uses to determine the prize (and who knows how complex that would be!), then they'd have to drive in a set of limits according to what car they want, most likely trying to race badly...

i think they should do it something like GT2. i mean with over 650 cars it would really suck to have it be random and keep doing it over and over to try and collect all the cars.

if that's what you planned on doing.

Please explain.??

In the GT2 series races the prize cars were awarded randomly. In the GT2 endurance races I got the feeling that the better of the 2 prize cars was awarded if you were under a certain time.

thats exactly what i was thinking. the more points you have in an endurance race, the better car you can choose from.

for example;

Car 1 = 60 points required
Car 2 = 45 points required
Car 3 = 30 points required
Car 4 = 15 points required

and of course if you have 60+ points, you can choose any car.

I agree. This would clearly be the best. I don't think I would even want them to award prize cars, just unlock special ones.

That would be ideal, I think. Lord knows it's frustrating to re-race an Endurance race because you didn't get the car you wanted, and winning that one race is the only way to get it. This way, if you don't get the one you want, you can at least buy it (no doubt expensive, especially for the high-end race cars).

I think the points system may come into play in prize selection as well. There's no telling what sort of algorithm it uses. I think it largely bases it on how your car compares to the others in the race. A Castrol Supra in the Sunday Cup, for example.. even if you held back and only won by a second, you'd still get bupkis for points. I'm sure the game is probably able to tell how you drive, to decide whether you were really pushing it or not. And with a JGTC Supra in a Class-C race.. you'd probably never push more than 10% of the throttle, if you were holding back. Hopefully the game can recognize this and give points and prizes accordingly. But if your car is of equal or lesser power, and the game recognizes you were pushing that car for all it was worth to take the win by a tenth of a second, that's more points, and theoretically, a better prize car at the same time. It's quite possible that the point system and prize system will work hand-in-hand, for the races that have multiple prizes to win. You want the good prize, you'll have to earn it, instead of just racing the same series over and over again in an F/094S until you get what you're after.

That's how I'd do it, anyway.. hehe. We'll have to wait until next month to see what KY has to say on the matter. :)

Is it me, I sure hope not. I'm 90% sure that you had a choice in selecting you desired car. I think the car had to be in a certain place either top or bottom of the circle of cars.

General consensus is that this was totally randome.

Ok have it your way. Anyway in the original post he said "in some races" meaning it's not random all the time and that we do have some choice.

It would be nice getting to choose the car that you win only becaue you would get exactly wat you want every time, but thats not realistic, and the cars would not be as good as the best ones that you can win, it's like gambling when it's left to random, you can get a car that sucks, or win the lotto and get an awsoem car, i like it better random, much more realistic.

Or if you wanted it to be semi choose your prize make it where you know the prize before you start the race, but have it be a randomly selected prize for each race that only changes daily, or even weekly

..your kidding? so if i win a F1 race in RL... they will say: pick a door, 1 - 4, one has a ferarri in it, two has average cars and one has a yugo in it!

that would be funny;

announcer: congratulations! pick a door to get your prize!
winner: i pick door #3..
announcer: you've picked... a YUGO! congratulations!
winner: oh well, better than nothing..
announcer: you could've won a; ferrari enzo, porsche 911 turbo, or a corvette. congratulations again!
winner: WHAT!?!? a ferrari enzo!?! NOOOOOOOOOO *shoots self* :sly:

LOL! you said it better then i ever could *claps*

I missed out on alot of cars in GT3 because of the random system, and the fact that doing endurance races over and over again doesnt intrest me. It should be back to GT2 style but only awarding the car once. It should also check what you have already in your garage as stated earlier.
Great i got 3 Polyphony 001's, sure I'll have another one, and not that nice Speed 12, or R390..... :guilty:
There better be a new system, or I'll find myself screaming and throwing controllers again. 👍

Hopefully its random, becuase its alot more interesting even though once i threw my controller at the wall becuase i did the 100 Lap on the SuperSpeedway like 6 times and never won the F 090/s...always got the Tickford or Vette C5R!!!

They should implement the KISS system on this one...

For each race you have only one 'prize' car to unlock, if you win it you get it awarded to you, if you come second or worse, it just becomes available to be brought.

Thus 100% completion of all the races, championships... THE GAME... results in 100% of the prize cars being available to you, the more you win the less you have to spend in buying them, that is if you want it in your garage anyhow...

(Oh yeah... KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid)

Same thing happened to me! And that was a boring indurance race. And the cars in GT2 were random in some races because my brother tried to win the GT90 in the Seattle Endurance race and kept winning something eles untill he eventually won it.

In GT3 there was either one prize car or a car selected entirely randomly from a group. There was never any way to choose what car you won. Period.
