The thing with the X360 units is that you need to keep them cool from underneath. The belly of the beast is where the problems stem from!

Oh no, that's not necessary; we don't know if that will introduce a new host of issues or not...

Keep it horizontal. What I had done was take a total of eight supplement bottle caps from the same bottle, elevated it by half an inch on all fours and have a small pedestal fan blowing in cool air from the left.

^^ Do this, and it'll never, as in, NEVER, overheat or red ring on you. Plus, connecting it to a voltage stabilizer/surge protector helps.

NO NEVER STAND THE 360 ON ITS SIDE!! You run a major risk of scratching your discs along with other problmes. I have seen a LOT more people having problems setting 360s on their sides. Just not worth it.

Keep your 360 horizontal, well ventilated, install every game, and you will greatly extend its life. You can install PC fans to help cool it depending on where your 360 is located. I have a few examples of my setup in my signature.
