The easiest is to use your router. Linksys routers have a "Log" function under "Administration" that can capture incoming or outgoing IP addresses (source and destination). Some D-Link router I have has an "Internet Sessions" function the does that same. Most routers have something similar.

Once you have some IP addresses, you can use a number of methods/utilities to find the owner or name of the IP address - one that I use is "www.whatismyipaddress.com" - choose the "IP Lookup" function on the top option bar.

Solved? I have many on the AutoLog and don't get any stuttering or mini-freezes. It would be nice if there was a clear fix...

EDIT: How many in the USA are having AutoLog freezes and/or very noticable stuttering?

If you get the netgear ( the one with big blue botin on top). I have 5 pcs on it with 7 phones using WiFi and no lag while on ps3.

There are too many variables (router, wired/wireless, load on bandwidth, type of connection, etc.) that could affect network/Internet performance to globally diagnose issues in this forum.
Where I was going with my investigation was related to access to the EA or Sony servers. If there is lack of bandwidth or over saturation of your Internet bandwidth can this be causing online services (AutoLog, online play) to stutter or freeze temporarily. It isn't a level playing field - Internet access performance can vary widely but we all expect similar performance.

Simplest test is a ping (multiples over time for accuracy) to EA or Sony servers to try to measure access performance (latency). Determining what servers are being accessed during AutoLog sync or online play is not a straight-forward procedure.

During online play, EA/SMS built in a function to display each racers latency - they did this because low latency is required for proper performance.

I have very good access (consistent over time!) to this server. Is it a server directly involved in AutoLog or online play? That's the millon dollar question.

I do when I'm at my friends house but he has a $20 router so I think the autolog prob. is due to routers.

Is it his router, bandwidth provided by his ISP, load on Internet, and many more variables. I don't think you can say it's the router - at least I couldn't.

Ya i see what your saying but he has all the same stuff but router is different. Idk if the routers make that much difference

I personally haven't had an autolog freeze yet. Just the freezing at high speeds. I said in a post a while back, I bet the autolog freezes are probably from EA's servers. They have always been 🤬. I have TW 12 and that has froze on me a few times online. My buddy has NCAA 12 and that freezes on him quite a lot. I've always had games from EA that froze at some point or another. I understand freezing games aren't anything new, but when you can repeat it or it happens all the time, it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

I told myself this year I'm not buying an EA game. Then I seen Shift 2, oooohhh that looks good and it is to a point. Then I seen TW12, oooohhh I haven't had a TW game in about 4 years.(Only bought it to play Augusta National, it was worth it). To an extent though, I wish I wouldn't have bought them. EA falls back on their exclusive license's too much. They know they're guranteed profit off them because people will buy rehashed sports games every year.(Especially NCAA and Madden) I mean really, what changes in them? The graphics? A none gameplay impacting feature? Blah. Blah.

Sorry for the EA rant, but they just piss me off sometimes.

About the freinds connections, I really don't know. Everyone is going to have slower speeds and higher ping if connecting to the other side of the planet. Thats just how it is. I believe there are just too many variables in connections to actually prove anything. Willing to bet EA's servers are just as guilty as the player's connections.

I do know however, we're probably stuck with how Shift is. It sucks, but that is most likely the reality of the situation.

Is it the EA servers, is it the connection performance to the servers, or something completely different... your guess is as good as mine. But, if it was the servers wouldn't everyone be having the same AutoLog and online issues. It's the "inconsistancy" of the reported AutoLog problems, stuttering, and mini-freezes that help support the network performance theory.
So, what's the solution if it is network performance? If you are having these problems, pack it up and move closer to the source (EA servers) is my solution:) Seriously, this is somewhat of a game in itself to try and find a common denominator to some of our S2U problems. Maybe a little too geeky of an exercise for some :sly: And, we can't "always" put the blame on the game developers/producers - network performance is a variable out of their control. My $.0005

And what does this mean... I get 25ms, moso gets 120ms. Will 25ms and 120ms both give equal performance for the task... another million dollar question. What is does indicate is a changing variable. Any variable that is not equal can produce different results.

GT5 I hear has excellent online play... how do you find it, seriously. I have jumped into a few races, lobbies that showed good connections, and the cars were jumping around quite a bit. I am sure others have better luck but it sure wasn't smooth for me - network performance!!!

Ya dude, I have no idea. I'm not a network buff or anything, but I do have a really good network connection and have only had problems when playing EA games online. I see what you're saying with it being inconsistent. Makes it really hard to pinpoint what the issue really is.

This is also what I am getting at... your good network connection may stop at your connection to your ISP. Once the network packet of information passes through your ISP the path it takes from there can be unpredictable. Know what I am saying... It isn't always a point A to point B issue. Your "good" connection performance is from point A to point B but the destination may be point ? as the data travels. Anyway, just a discussion.

Well GT5 is a bit of a bag of worms too, i can try and connect to say 10 rooms , and i maybe able to actually get into one or two of them ! the rest a phrase comes up saying incompatible with host . Other times i actually managed to get into the room and onto the track , only to be told i have been disconnected . And this was nothing to do with being kicked , as it happened a few times when in my mates room . But once i get in , the actual gameplay for the most part is pretty smooth , although i have seen on numerous occasions , cars springing about in front of me like jumping beans .

Aahhhh, I see what you're saying. Its probably hard to nail down what my or anybodies connection for that matter is to the servers. Good point. This whole network and connection stuff is starting to get beyond my knowledge.:lol: I suppose it could get really complicated if one was to try and dig up how the Autolog servers really work.
 
@ fatkrakr: Did you read my edited OP? The problem with the freezing autolog is one certain friend that you probably added just before it started to freeze. Delete that friend from your list and - for whatever reason - autolog will work again.
 
^ But why did Autolog freeze here? And why just today? For now my moeny is on S2U barfing on bad data from the Autolog servers, which in your case could tie in with the adding/deletion of one particular friend. Pure speculation, of course... How about adding that friend back in and see what happens?

Lets see if this helps fakrakr first. Also, I didnt just have those problems today, it was the 3rd day.

Edit @ Jogo: Yes, it froze only when online.

That is what I understood by comments of some... stuttering/mini-freezes were gone if not connected.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "...with high accurary." as with most of the problems just when you think you have it narrowed down the theory falls apart.
The only problem experienced across a large section of users seems to be high speed freezing on a few of the tracks (Nordschleife, Mount Paramount, ...) but even that is somewhat inconsistant - but given time it will surface.

Yes, I have spent a fair amount of time testing the high speed freezing issue and was able to consistantly duplicate online and off.
 
Knock on wood, I have not yet experienced the high speed car/select track freezing, but last weekend when I opened Autolog I had a system freeze that hosed my game data (I had a backup from a couple days prior so I was okay there).

Want to test :) Race the Lamborghini Murcielago on Nordschleife - I will almost bet my youngest child that it will freeze for you. I had said the same thing as you until I did some testing and sure enough it started to freeze. Why I could race that combo for a period of time before without a problem is a mystery.
 
Used Lambo Murcielago (both works and A-Class), Pagani Cinque HP, Works R35 Spec V. on Nords, Spa, and Panorama last night, no freezes. Not as fast as some of you, but no freezing, I do get a lot of controller USB disconnects with my wheel though, which is very annoying, does not happen in other games. Was logged in, but playing Single-player mode, have not tried same cars/tracks online though.

Like I had said, I had no problems with those same cars UNTIL I did repeated testing over the course of a few days. Now it will freeze consistently with very high PI cars.
I would try a few times again but over different sessions - may have been fine last night, maybe OK today, then all of a sudden tomorrow the freezes may start. If not, I will pack up my youngest and put him on the next bus. You may be a lucky one but I will have a hard time believing that - UNLESS there is one variable different with your setup than the rest of the universe.

NOTE: Never had a USB disconnect - maybe I should :sly:

Ok so i have not opened autolog for a week or so tried a few minutes ago works fine. Ive added a few frinds since I last checked so that must of been enough to get it kicked started again. Thanks for the heads up. 👍

That's why I said knock on wood in my previous post, I have found all kinds of bugs and weird stuff in NFS S2U, so maybe I have been lucky so far, and its just around the corner.

FYI: To date I have not done much online, mostly single player mode which is why I was asking the questions about possible correlation between the issues, so I know what to possibly expect.
