Based out of Boston, Massachusetts, Rapier Automotive has spent time preparing its mid-engine supercar for five years and is now taking orders. Almost completely hand-built, the Rapier Superlight Coupe, or SL-C for short, is completely customizable, offering customers several different powerplant, color and interior options.
Customers can choose from three Chevrolet-derived engine choices, all of which can be transplanted underneath a clamshell hood behind the passenger compartment. The first model is the LS376 which has a 6.2L, 469 lb-ft. of torque and which produces 480 hp. It can do the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds and the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 358 km/h. If you are looking for a little more power, the LS7 and the supercharged, LS9 are also available. The LS7 has a 7.0L, 470lb-ft. of torque engine and produces 505 hp while the LS9 comes with a 6.2L SC, 604 lb-ft. of torque engine and produces 638 hp.
This beast comes with an aluminum, tig-welded, Monocoque chassis/space frame hybrid with composite body panels and tips the scale at 2,375lbs. The vertical opening motorized doors and functional roof scoop feed cabin with aircraft style vents create the sporty look for this supercar. The exterior is finished off by 18X10 multispoke, aluminum wheels in the front and 18X13 multispoke, aluminum wheels in the rear that can be completed in an array of finishes.
The interior can also be customized with choices of either leather trim, carbon fibre, or a combination of both. The SL-C comes with a Digital Dash 2 Pro+ with data logging, 2-axis G-sensors, and infra-red lap timer and receiver. The standard audio system includes an Alpine DVD/CD/MP3 receiver/AV head unit and a navigational system while the upgraded premium system includes an Escort 9500 CI concealed radar detector/laser shifter.
