Avatars on members page DONE!
Thread One - it was so cool!
Thread Two - you said you'd add it back (: (:
Basically having a column on the Members Page for the avatar. It would also be cool if that link were changed to 30 so I could be on the first page ... *wink wink* DONE! (through alternative means)

Rule enforcement DONE! (continuously done well, awesome!)

Good job Mods, keep up the good work! And don't be afraid to enforce! The members that GTP wants to have stick around are right behind you. There had been times when I wondered if anyone was paying attention to what was going on on the boards. There have also been times when I thought the monitoring was to the point of being abrasive. Lately it seems to be pretty good. I don't know if that is due to Moderating or just that the kids got bored and left. Either way everything seems to be pretty good. Don't be afraid to weild your powers - that's why you have them.

Have you mentioned this to the VBulletin guys? It would be awesome. I'd even set up the list for you. Seriously. Please please please please please! Push the VBulletin guys for this - it would be totally awesome! I might even modify a searcher for phpBB and emplement it on my own site. It's so cool!

Threads by user DONE! (thanks man!)

I sometimes like to see what a particular member is interested in. The quickest way is to see what threads they post in and what kind of threads they start. It could be cool (:

Ignore Threads / Sub-Forums
Thread One
Thread Two
I don't think this would be used just to ignore the Drift forum either (: I would use it to ignore GT1/GT2/WRC/Digital Art Help ... so on and so forth. Then specific threads and such. Then when I click "New Posts" it wouldn't list those threads and give me a more custom list geared for my taste. It's more than just joining a web BB that suites me - it's customizing my favorite board to increase my desire to be here.

Special Accomplishment Icons
Thread
I still think this is a good idea. Perhaps a forum/thread situation for requesting icons in a nomination system. No one can ask for their own icons except for "100% in GT3" and such. On the Profile page you could just have an additional row of icons that link to their description "This member has been nominated 'Cool Dude' by one of his peers". But in the thread view they may take up too much space. Perhaps a row or two under the avatar or something. Was it included in vB3?

Webcam Avatar
Thread
... I kind of miss it in some strange way. It could be the 'ultimate Special Accomplishment Icon' which you could set up for really special members who are really really special. Like me. HA ha ha ha ha ... Can we look into setting this up again? And maybe find some other members who would like to do the same? I think the requirements should still match that of the uploaded avatars and the image needs to be available 99% of the time. I've stopped shutting down my computer so mine will always be available baring technical failure.

This will be in GTP6.

Our mod squad is doing a great job, they really deserve a pat on the back! 👍

I'm still not quite sold on that idea, but I've asked the developers about it. :)

That's coming (or, shall I say, returning) in GTP6.

I don't believe this feature will initially be available in GTP6, but it will be added eventually.

No, a feature like that is not included in vB3.

some of those are really good ideas. the Avatars on the user search page is a good idea, and I agree that it should be brought back. Good job mods. The word-linking would be rather tedious, because just about every other word you type would be linked in a wierd blue and underlined. the webcam I honestly see no point in, why can't you just make a gif of some shots from it? this confuses me. The ignore option I would use occasionally for certain forums here and there, but it's not worth adding in for 1 or two forums...

If im understanding this correctly certain "main topic" words would have auto links with them, in my opinion that would look cheesy, and possibly drag the thread off topic, i know i wouldn't like it.

The way I see it word linking would be used for spacific words, generally related to Gran Turismo or racing. It wouldn't come up too much, but it would make it easier to referance things. If I said I ran a 0:59.875 on Midfield in my RX-7 LM it could automatically link to a page that has all the info for Midfield and another page for the RX-7 LM. I think it would be cool. Maybe I'm just a nerd.

The webcam is strictly for fun. Jordan and I set it up a while back. It's interesting because you can actually see the person sitting there at their computer - or not at their computer. People knew I was at my computer even if I wasn't browsing GTP. Occationally I got Instant Messages from people telling me there was a thread I'd be interested in and I could go straight to it without having to keep GTP open all the time. They knew I was there because of my webcam avatar. But basically it's just for fun.

Ignoring forums is taking it to the extreme. I would, though, like to be able to ignore popular threads that I am not interested in. Ones that continually show up in the "New Posts" search. If I could eliminate about half of them from the list it would make me a happier member (:

Thanks for posting, though. It's nice to have feedback.

We get off topic pretty bad as it is, don't we? (: I guess that's the point of a "thread" - it weaves through conversation topics. I don't know tha tit would actually trail off topic that much, though. Mostly to serve as a referance aid when describing things. Again, I may just be a nerd.

Woohoo! I think ... oh yes there are some good things in there. I'll get my detailed webcam ideas together for you shortly (:

Thanks for replying. I've always enjoyed working with you, if that's the proper terminology.

This is a great idea, but I wouldn't use it since I'm sometimes bare naked and have other nasty habits sitting in front of my screen:lol:

How about a "Member rating" option. I see that some other forums (not as good as GTP by a long way) have a little bar/number of stars under the members name giving a rating that is determined by the voting of forum members. It is dynamic, so changes with the performance of the particular member? A possibility?

EG:

Jordan
[insert bar here] 100%

Buzbo
[Insert bar here] 1%

That's the new "karma" system in vB3. I haven't decided if it will be included or not in GTP6.

I could go either way on something like that. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to 'beat the system'. And if there are no benefits/penalties based on the system then it will be disregarded by most members.

Some thing like, the higher karma you have the more posts per day it allows you to do or something.

Yeah, it's a touchy thing. I'm going to have to play around with it a bit more before I decide.

Ah well I'm working on it. I'm down a couple thousand as it is, and those guys are running off from me in record speed.

Meanie.

WoooTAAAAAAHHH. I'm up like three spots since I posted this thread. How's that for "posted enough so you could be on the first page..."? I'm getting there. Slowly.

DONE!! Ok, now your turn.

I'd still like the ability to ignore entire sub-forums, and threads. When I do a search I want them to not show up in the results. As it is now between the time I stop viewing the forums in the evening and when I get to work in the morning there are roughly 160 different threads with new posts - I would say less than 10 of which I care to see. These 160 threads are on seven different pages, and my select 10 are distributed across them in the clutter. As an example for the effectiveness of ignoring threads I checked the GT3 Drifting section to see how many of the total new posts came from that one sub-forum. If I were to be able to completely ignore that forum's threads in the New Posts view it would eliminate 2/3 of a page of results.

I have an idea how to accomplish this with possibly little programing intervention. The setting that displays only threads modified in the past X period of time could be used. If it is possible to permanently set a different time for each sub-forum, and add a time frame of a couple seconds, it theoretically won't display any threads unless you were to click "New Posts" almost instantly after someone posts a new one to that certain forum. I imagine it would put a little extra load on the server's processor, though.

And ignoring entire sub-forums may not always be the greatest option. I do a lot in the Rumble Strip, but there are also a lot of threads there I don't wish to deal with. So being able to ignore a thread would be nice. Especially ones that are highly active.

I still think Word Linking would be fun. I understand it's a difficult undertaking, but I think the vB guys could handle that. And I still think that in an information / support oriented community as we are, having words link to more information would be totally awesome. Oh! Check this out. Certain key words could link to a search request URL for that word to reveal all threads containing it! So when some lousy n00b starts a thread and asks "How do I make the Zonda good?" it would insert a link in Zonda to a search for Zonda. Or I guess keywords could even link to more spacific things like certain threads or forums, or searches for more spacific things like Zonda Settings. When GT4 hits the streets and your traffic at GTPlanet goes up 9000% with about 50,000 new members asking the same five questions about 2,000 times your moderators are going to get sick of moderating and your community members are going to get sick of drudging through it too.

Special Accomplishment Icons I still think would be cool. They could even be highly inaccurate - self assigned by members. It would be nice to have them in the member info table cell where the user name, avatar, location ... etc are, but they could even be a small collection of "smilies" that we could add into our signatures. The fellas at S2kI.com use these little ~ 30 x 80 images to do similar things in their signatures so that other members know where these guys are from and which car clubs they're members of or which modification parts they've put on their S2000. It would be nice for us to know certain things about users like if they've completed GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, the concept and demo disks, achieved gold on licenses ... etc etc etc ... I think that for this site they should all be Gran Turismo oriented, and perhaps a thread on what the icons should be of / for could be useful discussion. Things like icons for each sub forum might be nice, so people can advertise their favorite section of GTPlanet each time they post.

Heh, forgot my attachments (:

Sorry but I have to ask why you attached and hotlinked the pictures?

And goddamn, I never realised the drifting forum was so frequent...I'd heard about it, but that's crazy.

If you look all those drifting threads he hasn't looked at aren't only from today. Some are from yesterday. There wouldn't be that many if he looked daily, but he doesn't have the time probably, which is OK. All I am saying is the drifting forum isn't as popular as you might think.

"Today" and "yesterday" aren't relevant. "Yesterday" could be 11:50PM. It's less than 24 hours. Infact, the oldest new post at 10:20 this morning was from 9:07 the previous evening - 13 hours, 13 minutes previously. Eight of which I was sleeping, two of which I was in the car, two of which I was watching a movie, and the other hour I was playing with my dog.

Same here cardude. Too amazing if you ask me...

But on the other hand I agree with LoudMusic. They are all in the space of 24 hours, let alone 13! Crazy forum.

Where has Jordan been lately? He must be busy. He hasn't even read my PM from a few days ago.
