I think the Karma system would be cool. Maybe there would be a way to give existing contributing members Karma so they would not have to build it up like everyone else.

Also, Ive noticed some forums have a feature that displays a certian amount of the first line of a thread when you float your cursor over the title. I think this is a good way for lazy people like me to save valuable time browsing these forums.

That's already in place in this forum... in fact, it shows the entire first paragraph of the post, I believe.

I'd still like the ability to ignore entire sub-forums, and threads. When I do a search I want them to not show up in the results. As it is now between the time I stop viewing the forums in the evening and when I get to work in the morning there are roughly 160 different threads with new posts - I would say less than 10 of which I care to see. These 160 threads are on seven different pages, and my select 10 are distributed across them in the clutter. As an example for the effectiveness of ignoring threads I checked the GT3 Drifting section to see how many of the total new posts came from that one sub-forum. If I were to be able to completely ignore that forum's threads in the New Posts view it would eliminate 2/3 of a page of results.

I have an idea how to accomplish this with possibly little programing intervention. The setting that displays only threads modified in the past X period of time could be used. If it is possible to permanently set a different time for each sub-forum, and add a time frame of a couple seconds, it theoretically won't display any threads unless you were to click "New Posts" almost instantly after someone posts a new one to that certain forum. I imagine it would put a little extra load on the server's processor, though.

And ignoring entire sub-forums may not always be the greatest option. I do a lot in the Rumble Strip, but there are also a lot of threads there I don't wish to deal with. So being able to ignore a thread would be nice. Especially ones that are highly active.
You know I never realised this feature has been suggested for years now, but it just never has made its way into vB's feature set for some reason.

I still think Word Linking would be fun. I understand it's a difficult undertaking, but I think the vB guys could handle that. And I still think that in an information / support oriented community as we are, having words link to more information would be totally awesome. Oh! Check this out. Certain key words could link to a search request URL for that word to reveal all threads containing it! So when some lousy n00b starts a thread and asks "How do I make the Zonda good?" it would insert a link in Zonda to a search for Zonda. Or I guess keywords could even link to more spacific things like certain threads or forums, or searches for more spacific things like Zonda Settings. When GT4 hits the streets and your traffic at GTPlanet goes up 9000% with about 50,000 new members asking the same five questions about 2,000 times your moderators are going to get sick of moderating and your community members are going to get sick of drudging through it too.
That could be helpful in a few situations, but the implementation, along with the server load far outweighs the benefits. That's beside the fact that it would probably be more annoying than anything once it was actually implemented.

Special Accomplishment Icons I still think would be cool. They could even be highly inaccurate - self assigned by members. It would be nice to have them in the member info table cell where the user name, avatar, location ... etc are, but they could even be a small collection of "smilies" that we could add into our signatures. The fellas at S2kI.com use these little ~ 30 x 80 images to do similar things in their signatures so that other members know where these guys are from and which car clubs they're members of or which modification parts they've put on their S2000. It would be nice for us to know certain things about users like if they've completed GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, the concept and demo disks, achieved gold on licenses ... etc etc etc ... I think that for this site they should all be Gran Turismo oriented, and perhaps a thread on what the icons should be of / for could be useful discussion. Things like icons for each sub forum might be nice, so people can advertise their favorite section of GTPlanet each time they post.
That would be neat, yes. Maybe for the next version of the site. :)

Where has Jordan been lately? He must be busy. He hasn't even read my PM from a few days ago.
Yes, I have been busier than ever. I'm able to check my email once a day, if I'm lucky. :(

You should check for things before you ask. This was in GT5 as well, wasn't it? (I don't know before that, as I wasn't around)

I noticed. Poor Jordan, hope you have a year of absolute laziness, for your benefit. ;)👍
