In GT4(also in GT'PSP) Circuit de Monaco did't look like the real deal. there are extra walls placed in chicanes & corners. the track in GT4 is very wide instead of small streets. some turns are from the "old" version of monaco. like the pitlane exit and some of the chicanes are not the same. This was a let down because Monaco is one of my favorit circuits in a lot of games. But in GT4 it did't give me that great feeling.

I hope the GT5 real circuits are correct!

The real circuits are still the best in the racing sim genre I bet! As I know, everybody says that the GT4 Nordschleife is the best version in any racing game...

Those were deliberate decisions. Polyphony made the circuit wide enough for people to be able to pass. They added walls at the Nouvelle Chicane to stop people from driving straight through.

I can understand the addition of the walls at the chicane to prevent cheating. But I don't like the widening of the track for gameplay purposes. If its a real track, they should make it as accurate as possible.

The GT version not a real track. The Cote d'Azur (note the different name) track is loosely based on the Monte Carlo track. It is not an exact copy.

And it appears in City Courses, not Real Circuits.

Thanks for the info ( I always assumed it was called Cote d'Azur purely for licencing reasons ) and although it might be loosely based on the Monaco track I always found it to be the best "recreation" of the Monaco-track I'd experienced in any racing game.
Goes to show how little I compare the GT4 version ( which admittingly I played a long time ago ) with the real life F1 footage I just saw.;)

That F1 qualifying was amazing to watch this morning. The track is amazing

i agree whit that!

and like 'analog', i also assumed it was called Cote d'Azur for licencing reasons...

Well, as was discussed already, it had a different name for a reason, and being "accurate" does not always make for a better gaming experience. I'm all for making slight adjustments and tweaks to enhance the gameplay.

iam sure that the tracks will be like the real tracks
i think the monaco track is not like the real one because (maybe)they thought its too hard for the psp/2 gamers...in the gt videos u can see that they "scan"the tracks ...

I think you might be right, and if I find out that nurburgring or any other track in gt5 is dumbed down then I will be extremly dissapointed!

i don't like adjusments. besides, i useal take a chicane whit one wheel very far in the inside of the corner (whitout cutting the corner). a bit like Massa driving style 1 year ago on monaco. but whit those ajusments i hit the wall or having difficulty's to have a fast lap there.

Cote is fun for what it is, but I always preferred the version in F1:CE. 'Piscine' is ALOT funner and more treacherous than presented in GT4. I hope it is still included in GT5. I am imagining the flora and azure sea, with monstorious yachts staged along the route. With GT's lighting mastery and technique, it could be incredible.!!!

Well, Monaco is monaco, Cote d'Azur is Cote d'Azur. Each track is different and has its unique challenges - challenges that don't matter to people like me who don't really drive with such precision!

Yes, track just need to be little more narrow...

true. but i like it narrow and like real life.

It's difficult to say if it's much wider than real life, remember the F1 cars move so quick it looks narrower than what it is at normal speeds

Real

GT4

If you switch between both thr real and GT4 vids,it looks about right.I think the tunnel and possibly a few other places are touch wider in GT4.

F1

You can see how the speed and the camera affects your perception.I just hope the track is in GT5 :) it will look stunning.

Don't forget Polyphony made that track in 2000 for Gran Turismo 3. So you really should compare to "the old version" and not the track you see this weekend.

But it's very close, if not 100% accurate. And with GT5 having damage and penalties, additional walls will be unnecessary.
That is, if the track will be in the game...

It looks pretty accurate compared to what I've seen all week, but is definitely wider.

Here is Jenson Button's qualifying lap from last year.

Surely, it'll make it in GT5 and be more accurate, but who knows?

You might like the idea of having a super-realistic circuit where it is almost too narrow to pass, but I very much imagine that the average gamer would just find it frustrating.

If it was a licensed circuit it would be perfectly accurate as any of the licensed tracks in the game: Nurburgring, Fuji, Suzuka... but without a license is possible that they are not allowed to make it without changes. Also the track layout is the same since GT3. Many City tracks in GT4 are more narrower than the real life Monaco, so isn't a gameplay problem.

This is possibly the most accurate virtual track of Monaco:

Not only that, but it just shows how there is no substitute for having a wrap-around screen that truly fills your peripheral vision. Give me that with a bit of head tracking thrown in over fake 3D any day of the week!

Sorry to bump this slightly old thread but, after a bit of looking around it seems that the monaco circuit isnt confirmed for GT5, whats peoples thoughts on this?

In Gt4 monaco was my favourite circuit, completed hundreds of laps around there in various cars and is one of the only 3 tracks i ever race when i play the game.
