I think Bushnell has really upped their game of recent years. Holding one next to the equivalent Leupold I was surprised.

I've been looking around for an optic for the AR for some time now. I think I'm settling for a 1-Y power illuminated scope. So very many options. So very many expensive options...

The 1-4x's used to be the industry standard. The new 1-6 scopes are more cut out for my use but are a big jump in terms of cost.

I've drooled over that one before

At the time I really wanted the brush 223 in stainless trim as well, I think I walked out of the shop with an over/under 410 LOL

crack addict

EDIT: I'm a leapold guy tbh, I have a straight 7x on my 30/30 and would not give it up for the world, funny thing, at first I put high mounts on it so I could still use the irons. Well, I never looked in the damn thing so I swapped out for a traditional mount and never went back.

I think the only rifle I use without glass is my 10/22

I had the 4200 Elite on a Savage which I sold years ago, I've never had so many problems with a scope before. I could never correctly adjust the parallaxes for 100 meters. It was just frustrating.

Have you checked out the new Burris AR battle sights? They're pretty neat, though they come with fixed 3x power. In combination with a Micro dot via piggy back mount it would be an excellent choice.

Part of me really likes the idea of having a light weight fixed power optic like an ACOG TA33 or that Burris or even a super light red dot like an Aimpoint Micro or PA Micro. The variable optics these days are just too versatile for me to pass up, even if they are a bit heavier than I'd like. Besides, the other people who shoot the gun tend to prefer benchrest I-heart-tiny-groups shooting. Not really the forte of those fixed power optics.

Hey! Not THAT much more actually, I think I'm paying something around .90 / Brenneke slug, thats just 2 bucks more for 15. The high quality target slugs run for 1.20 per slug I think.

What kind of slugs did you buy? I'm a slug-a-holic! :dopey:

Talking about prices overseas, I wish the US was around the corner, I'm still waiting for my parcel that contains my target sights. The wait is killing me.... :guilty:
My bad, that's much lower than I expected. Ones I picked up were just the cheapest Remington they carry:

I'd get the Model 1895SBL.
That thing looks like modern meets the old west. Awesome. 👍

I'm going to start looking hard at entry model Redfield scopes. Something in 2~7X range & around or under $200.

It is amazing how much difference they make. I still want backup sights, but it's night & day.

Those are not boat tails are they. I used to use both way back when you could get early deer hunts with shotgun here, sadly that has changed to muzzle only.

I rigged a no magnification sight on an old single shot and went to town lol, boat tails go far and straight, the riffled ones stop a tank.

I understand, I feel the same.
In the end I went with the best of both worlds, my go-to gun has a 2-7x33 installed which is good for 100yds benchresting shooting .5 moa groups and dynamic shooting at 20yds standing unsupported. With 7x you can reach out to 500yds easily and 2x is just low enough for close target work. Those scopes are leightweight + compact too AND they're way better than those 22mm battle sight lenses which aren't that great in low light conditions.
The only downside: they're not really tacticool. :p

Can't go wrong with them!

Hm, I'm trying to figure out the difference between the slugs in the yellow-green box and the plain green ones....

I've never heard of boat tail ones.

And Michael, they are all same model. It's yellow on the sides.

I'll see if I have some slugs out of the case and take a pic 👍

EDIT: Not sure why it's blurry but whatever, rifled on the left

Those are my favorite slugs right now:

Put them in a 50 round Blackhawk bandoleer for easy storage. ( I pretend its a 12 gauge machine gun belt :sly: )

@ arora

Wow, I've never seen that kind of slug before, its looks like a 50 caliber sabot?

Sabot yeah, that is what they call it, either or. I used to buy boxes of 10, they where winchester iirc. with a long barrel and tight choke you can group past 150yds 👍

I wonder why the're shaped like that, it looks like a supersized stretched airgun pellet. Pretty cool though, turns a shotgun into a rifle, the standard slugs are totally running out of steam at 70.

I stopped by sportsman shop on the way home tonight, hoping to check out that cool Leuopold/Redfield demo display. They took off all Redfield scopes, except for two, which was damn shame. For the price, yeah, Redfield looked a lot better. I don't know what you call it, but when you look through the scope, you know that shadow that blocks your view, making the picture narrower? That was almost non-existent on the cheap Redfield($229-ish, I think).

Ah, I've never seen them before(thx for the pic 👍), but I have heard of sabot slugs. When I first learned about slugs, I believe I read that sabots are designed for rifled slug barrels, while rifled slugs are designed fro smooth shotgun barrels. It could be completely wrong, but that's what I read on the internet. :dopey:

I've never used bandoliers, or anything with loops, or snap on things. I usually throw them in my Maxpedition versipack, but I have thought about using one of these rollypollys.

That is called relief, most good scopes have 4" or more of it 👍

I've never owned a rifled shotgun, all I know is I can hit things from far away with the boat tails :D

Relief, that's it. I couldn't remember.

Where can you get sabot/boat tail slugs? I'd love to try them out, but I've never seen one in shops.

Well that was many years ago when I used to buy them. We used to have a sporting goods chain that sold and carried just about anything, it was funny as it was mostly a softball sort of place

I bet you can find them from winchester, most likely a super x, what are those boxes 5 packs? Should be next to the 00 buck. I'd check wallyworld.

I looked for some old boxes, could not find the 10 pack they way I used to get them, but here is probably how you find them now(might be old labelings too :O)

Anyway, I took a shot including my ruger. Hopefully Solid Lifters can't one up me with another interwebz pic

That round is a hornady which I'm not happy about, I like the standard flat nose remington loads but the shops where not surprisingly out, was lucky to get a box of any 20.

Solid has way too much class to pull that twice, so here I go:

Walmart do carry shotgun shells with those packaging. I will check them out next time. 👍

P.S. That Ruger's a .357 Mag, right?(GP100?) While I was looking for a funny picture, I ran into this.

I'll be back after I change my underwear.

Niice 👍

That reminds me of the first pistola I ever owned, an older win 38 spc with a long nose.

And na man, mine is a .44 mag. I bought that pair, as I said to mimic the Alaskans, I honestly used to fly fish all over the north and the bears are well, scary

Please tell me the compliment was for the Colt Anaconda, not the scoped Ruger.

I read or heard somewhere .357 was good round against bears too though, thought of course, nothing beats large caliber rifles. I was gonna say "high powered" rifles, but according to the media & authorities these days, even a .223 is a high powered military rounds that would disintegrate any deer, so....... :p

Right right LOL The compliment was for your joke ;)

357 will do it, I have a few of those as well. tbh I'm not really big on hand guns, I'm not even big on rifles although you are right about the big bore stuff :D

I'll be content with my 336c's and an odd over/under for my daily meat sticks, all the rest is just for fun and show.

Just rolled some 520 grain 45-70's for my rolling block, 64 grain Swiss 2FG Blackpowder should make them leave the barrel at 1200 fp/s. Not exactly fast for todays standards but believe it or not, thats actually a 1000yd load.

308 168 grain Remington Premier Match to the right for size comparison.

Let me hold onto one of those in case the zombie apocalypse ever gets to Bob Sapp.

Didn't know they had buffalo in Austria.
I live at the north border of my country, we get increasingly regular visits from huge brown bear and elk in the northern woods.
Sadly, I have not yet encountered either of those. :grumpy:

Let me hold onto one of those in case the zombie apocalypse ever gets to Bob Sapp.
If a zombiefied Bob Sapp attacks you better have a firing squad with mounted bayonets. :scared:
