I don't believe you, America has no shooting ranges, America IS a shooting range. As a proper American you are supposed to have a rifle slung over your shoulder all the times so you can always stop during a hike or on your way to work and empty a few dozen mags into the nearest hill (or in the city, a crack house) whenever you feel like it.

I was thinking the opposite. If the weather's nice, I have plans to go fishing, but if it's gonna be cold or wet, I could visit the range.

My .308/7.62x51 Magpul magazines finally came in.

I may get a chance to test out the new mag on Saturday.

On more serious note, I hope the longer mag won't affect the bench rest shooting too much. I never even entertained the idea before as I don't hunt, but I may see if they have 5-round magazine compatible with my rifle. I do like variety.

What? Don't mistake me for a traditionalist, I love semi-auto rifles of all kinds, especially DMR's. I just don't have any since I'm already occupied enough with the rifles I have, there is no way I could find time for starting yet another project.

Shooting from prone position or a bench shouldn't be problematic with the 25 rounder, just get a rest (ideally a long bipod) that gives the gun enough ground clearance and learn how to secure it to your shoulder properly using your off hand. Do that and you're good to go.

I use one of those bags they supply at the range. Bipod sounds cool though. I may have to look into that. 👍

If you go back a few pages where I posted the pic of my 22 rifle you can see the Harris 6'' bipod with swivel which I highly recommend. Swivel because you're guaranteed to cant the rifle to one side since perfectly level surfaces are exceedingly rare outside of computer games and MC Escher pictures.
I think they run for a 100 bucks now.

Oh, and now something really awesome, an AR in 7.62x25. Out of a rifle barrel the little 7.62x25 makes 85 grains @ 2100 fps. Pretty potent for a pistol round.

Gents, anyone use a publicly available ballistic model?

I've got a colleague telling me his 50 cal BMG model will go subsonic at 1300 metres, but I'm pretty sure he's got his data sheet from a pistol round (350 gr).

When I checked a BMG datasheet (I.e hornady) it was more like 700gr and a BC nearer 1.0 takes it easily beyond 1500 metres at Mach.

Didn't you ask the same question just a few pages ago? A .50BMG with a 750 grain projectile with a BC of 1.050 and a MV of about 2750 fps will go sub-sonic at around 2500 yards (2.3 kilometers). At 1.5 kilometers it will still be traveling with a speed 1560 fps which is well above the speed of sound. (depending on the altitude thats 1110 fps)

Maybe he was talking about the original WW2 Ball projectile which has a bad BC of around .650, this one does go sub-sonic at around 1.5 kilometers. Projectile technology and aerodynamics have come a long way.

Ask him if he is talking about the old WW2 50BMG Projectiles or the modern much more streamlined ones.

I have to go through an orientation first, but I became a member of a local gun range over the weekend. They opened up the membership and I was able to join. I am looking forward to being able to go to an outdoor range that is only about 15 minutes away.

P.S. Guy at work bought Tavor like yours & one of those Kel Tec shotguns last year. I asked him how he liked them just couple of days ago...... he still haven't shot them.

It will be at least a short while before my wallet gets lighter because of buying ammunition. Since I have not been doing a lot of shooting, I still have a decent amount socked away. I will wait until most of that gets low before buying any more and I will likely buy in bulk from somewhere online.

I cannot really say anything about not shooting a Tavor, as I still have not shot mine. Here soon though, it is going to be shot a whole lot. Same goes for the shotgun if I ever buy some shells for it.

Nope, I have not shot the Tavor. I will soon enough and am really looking forward to it. I have put 600 rounds through the VP9. I have also put 200 rounds through my Ruger 10/22 Takedown.

I'm not a expert 12-gauge guy, but I bought little bit of everything. Birdshot are the cheapest, so I have bunch of those for recreational shooting. Majority of my stock are made up of regular + magnum buck & slugs though. Buckshot's fun for blowing stuff up(also getting kicked in the shoulder lol), and slugs for making big holes in paper targets & also admiring its range. They are surprisingly pretty accurate.

I don't use my shotty for home defense, so it's not loaded, but it is stored near some buckshot. In case of zombie apocalypse I guess.

Finally got my Mosin 91/30 back from the gunsmith having the mounting holes for my Rock Solid Industries scope mount drilled and tapped and removing the rear sight. I was originally told it was only going to be 2-3 weeks, it ended up being 4 months...

Ordered the scope the other day and that should finish up the major purchases for this project. I may end up buying a few small accessories for it like a bipod or something, but hopefully nothing huge. I'll probably have to wait till I fire it again to see if I'll end up getting a Timney trigger assembly for it or just work on the trigger that's currently on the gun.

So hopefully this project will be wrapped up by the end of the month and I can start on my AR build which I've been putting off.

I'll be posting pics of the finished Mosin when I get the scope installed.

I was seriously expecting a call from them saying that they lost the gun. I thought that having gunsmithing done in January would have avoided any hunting season work rush. Guess I was wrong.

I went through the orientation today and should be going to the range on Friday after my half day of work (half day Fridays are pretty awesome). I may even try and make a trip earlier in the week after work. I will have to look at my schedule.

I've yet to hit the range, so I've yet to test out my new mags. My friend sounded like he wanted to go shooting(he has 4x4), so maybe I could go with him instead. I've been dying to rapid fire my guns(rapid fire's prohibited at the range).

Just throwing it out there, but there are at least a few of you in this thread, that if you made it to Oklahoma, then I would not have a problem inviting you as a guest. I mean that is as good as any reason to schedule a trip to the Great State of Oklahoma.
