Real life GT5 "tracks"

I was speaking with someone who has done a 'real life' drive in Tokyo of the 246. I had a laugh when he said it took him 22 minutes to complete the 246 with stoplights, traffic, etc.... I didn't ask him if he took pictures of the Honda building... :)

It made me wonder if others have done similar reality drives of the GT5 tracks or locales....I couldn't find anything to match in a search, so forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere.
 
Sadly (very, very sadly) it's not on GT5, but I walked GT4's Citta Di Aria in Assisi, Italy (some of it at least, it would be a long walk to complete the whole thing, and a car cannot be used for the majority of the 'track' since it's mostly a pedestrian city)



I've also driven GT2's Pikes Peak a few times. Although the version on GT2 is only about 1/16th of the entire course, running primarily through the W's only.

If you pause the first video at 5:32, and the second video at 0:48 then start them both at the same time, you can see from which (very small) portion of the mountain PD used. Understandable considering the PS1 hardware!

I've driven the Hong Kong street circuit from GT4, (and walked the parts alongside the harbour waterfront because normally that's "pedestrians only").

And London from GT5.
 
I've driven around Le Mans for as much as you can on the road. I've been on the dedicated track as well, though not on one trip/lap.
 
I've driven professionally in Monza and Spa back in the 90's...Made my way up to F3 until a huge shunt at the first chicane in monza sidelined me for over a year and ended my professional racing days...

Spa is a fantastic circuit and the thrill of going down the hill into Eau Rouge is hard to describe. In F3 there was no way of going flat out there, but even so we carried so much speed into the corner that you could feel the bottom of the car scraping on the road at the lowermost point...The exit of eau rouge also takes a lot of guts, because you go completely flat uphill into the left hander and it's a blind corner...If someone spins in front of you, you don't see it until it's too late.

Good days...At least now I can revisit all these places in GT5. :-)

Could you describe everything you remember of the crash? Any cool stories/favorite races you like to talk about? Sorry if I'm thread jacking, but today (under an hour ago) I ordered my first racing suit, gloves, and shoes; I guess I'm still pumped and just want to talk about racing as much as I can :dopey:
Also, you have my condolences. Racing is not something easily given up.

Well, there isn't much to it, really. It was raining a lot, so every car in the grid was fitted with wet tyres. I was starting from 3rd position, but had to much wheelspin (poor clutch biting point judgement on my part) and lost several places. I was 7th or 8th going into the first chicane, but the leaders braked waaay to early than anyone was expecting, so we had a huge pile-up at 250 kph. I hit another car in the rear and next thing I knew, I was airborne, flying into the tarmac scape road. I landed sideways and rolled over a couple of times. I was relatively fine at this point - only my left hand was broken, dut to the steering wheel's whiplash - but, as I said, we had a pile up, so at least another 5 or 6 cars went spinning out of control into this area, and a couple of those hit my car, that was still upsite down. The first one tore a hole on my cockpit the size of a basketball (this one broke my hip) and unflipped my car. The second one came backwards and hit me gearbox-first. That split my car in half and the impact broke 3 of my vertebrae.

I remember that, when the doctors were extracting me to the helicopter, I asked "do you think I'll make in time for the restart?"...LOL

If you want to share more stories and experiences, just send me a PM...even though I retired from racing, I still love it immensely...

It's funny how I used to hate the Hong Kong track on GT4 and now I could kill to have it as DLC on GT5 (with hd textures ofc).

Agreed. It was a frustratingly satisfying circuit to do. I just loved cruising and looking at the (low-res) scenery. 👍
 
Someone from another forum did a great Google Maps workup of the Seattle circuit from GT4 (which better be updated and back in GT6 or I'll be very perturbed). Very thrilling to learn it used all real streets (with some slight compression of scale). I've been to some of it but not all, but I added annotations (credit given accordingly) to the lap I posted on youtube...
 
Forgot to mention I've also walked/cabbed most of the Rome circuit (before it was in GT5 in its current configuration), and it is an exact match that you can easily trace in Google Maps...

Now you mention it... yes that was quite a cool track. Hated it at first too.
I remember practicing it over and over for one of the LMP races on it. Really made me like the track.
 
Didn't Jordan post a video from the release party from Madrid, of someone driving the route?
