Without a doubt Gran Turismo 4 is the closest a video game, particularly a racing game, has come to the look and feel of it's real life subject. Many web pages and magazines have posted comparisons of real pictures or tracks and cars to their GT4 counterparts, and the difference is hard to see in most cases. So the challenge is, post a picture that is either real or a GT4 screenshot and let us guess. The results may be surprising. Don't cheat by looking at the source page of the picture; try to guess by the picture alone. Here is my first contribution:

Edit: Sorry about that, I could not directly link to the picture.

yea that kinda ruins the challenge :grumpy:...with "Gamers.com" on the top.

Anyway, yes that is an amazing shot from the game. Other than the trees and the light reflection off the windshield, it looks so damn real.

I believe it is...it was on gamers.com with all other screenshots. It might just be a render though.

Here is another screenshot:

Or is it? What do you think (and don't cheat by going to the source page).

Real, not pixilated enough. Besides it's looking unlikely they'll have Ferrari, lol.

GT3 didn't have renders, in the intro movie, things were just high res but the same car models were used but the tracks looked a bit better but not too better than gt3 its self. So why start with gt4? I bet that's art work.

For the last time, yes it was. The intro movie IS a render in GT3. Just like in the link ZZII provided, those pictures are RENDERS on a very powerful COMPUTER. I don't know why you can't understand that... not every pic provided is from the PS2! What do you think they make the car/track models on? A COMPUTER!

So to sum it up, the GT3 intro movie IS a RENDER not done on the PS2! And the pics in the link ZZII gave are renders as well. It irritates me to no end when people can't distinguish the difference.

And about that pic with the Ferrari, I can't believe some people may think that is from the game  It's from an ALMS race at Mazda Raceway - Laguna Seca!

Rant over :)

NO! :banghead:

It's a real picture, of real cars, and a real track. This is known as REAL LIFE! It's from an ALMS race at Laguna Seca, some people - WOW! :banghead:

My question is: did you know that or did you trace the source of the image?

I didn't say that pic was ran on the ps2 I said it was art work because this site says it's artwork
hope the translator works for you
If PD want their cars to look like that one in the first post then they can because they rely on their artistic skills instead of technical skills, gt3 didn't use 25% of the ps2's power so what does that tell you, there's alot of room for impoverment. I can't wait to see how the final game looks.

I know that, how can't you know that? Can't you tell the difference between a real life pic and a game?

The simple fact that a Ferrari is in the picture gives it away, but honestly, how can you not tell it is a real picture? WOW

Real, it is a high quality camera, plus you can see the driver in the car, and plus plus it is a ferrari.

Fake is correct. It was rendered in 3ds mx using the Brazil Rendering system.
