Realism in GT3

This is a question I've been interested in, directed to those here with some or a deal of racing experience:

-How realistic does GT3 feel to you compared to the real thing??
I have no experience on the track or in racing at all, so I'm very curious.

-Also, has playing GT3 helped in track racing, or possibly vice versa?
On ESPN, I saw a segment that talked about how certain drivers, such as Villeneuve and Dale Jr., used video game driving to help improve their on-track competitiveness and sharpness.

Any comments would be appreciated!

Well, I've done a little autocross and one or two track days, but not much. GT3 is fairly realistic. Visually it's actually pretty good, even given the somewhat odd camera placement for the first-person view. The 16:9 widescreen format is probably a little more accurate.

What's missing, of course, is the feeling - the forces or turning and braking; the vibration and road feel, etc. These add up to giving you the real sensation of speed that is missing from the game.

Grassroots Motorsports magazine reviewed the game a few years ago, and they said that with a good wheel and pedals, GT3 is good enough to help keep in practice over the off-season.

Odd camera placement? The only thing wrong with it is no dashboard, other than that it's very accurate. I don't really know about it's realism, but I'm just glad that's not really me going 200 straight into a wall.

It's lower than where you would be in a real car, thats why it's odd. As for the feel of GT3, the handling, it's not that great compared to real life. GT4:P is getting there and hopefully GT4 will have it about right.

In GT4:P how is the 900 degree mode for those using a DFP realistic wise? And I was curious how well countersteering feels without feeling like you're gonna destroy the gears in the wheel.
