I have been contemplating getting a new wheel. I currently have a DFGT for PS3 and the MS wheel for x360. Im looking into getting a wheel with a clutch and 6speed shifter. I have read many many threads about allot of wheel and how the wheel and pedals feel but I never see anyone talking about how the shifter feels on any of them.
My question is does and of the wheels that come with 6 speed shifters feel like a real shifter? Does it have any feel like it is going in and out of gear?

The logitechs no. There is very little resistance in them and the shifter is quite small. The Fanatecs have a better feel. They are a lot stiffer, requires good force to move, and is life size of a real shift knob. However it's super loud and mounting it is difficult.

I've only had experience with the low end shifters that come with the G25, G27, and Fanatec wheels. None of them feel realistic.

I think it's worth waiting to see here more about the Thrustmaster T500 RS and Fanatec ClubSport shifters. Maybe they'll get us closer at a sort of affordable price.

Thanks for the info guys!! This is something that I think would really add to the experience and I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for one of these companies to come out with something like that. It doesn't have to be anything major. Don't need to be capable of grinding gears or anything, just the feel of engaging and dis-engaging of gears when you move the shifter.

If you stiffen the spring inside the G27 shifter and lengthen the gear lever, the G27 shifter if far from being a bad shifter. The standard G27 shifter is sh:censored:t

I agree. I really hate Fanatec shifters and can't wait for the clubsport shifters. I like the G27 shifter a lot better but still not that great.

I actually prefer the feel of the Fanatec shifter more myself. It's just a hollow plastic analog joystick with detents and some foam to create resistance. It's a really cheap, simple design, but it works. The "gates" feel precise and firm. I hate the sound though. The G27 shifter is a more robust build, with a metal internal frame, metal shaft, and solid case. I just don't like its vague feel at all.

If you're an owner of G25/G27, play mainly GT5 (and PC sims) and looking for a high end shifter, you also have option of getting the Frex HShifter Type-G. This shifter essentially connects to the electrical board of the G25/G27 making it PS3 compatible. I don't think it will be cheap (Frex Simwheel Type G which is also PS3 compatible runs over $2,000) but it's the best shifter around if money isn't an issue.

Earlier this year I bought the TSW 6 speed H-Shifter. At nearly $400, I was hoping it would be the best shifter I could get on the market.

The resistance was a bit weak in between the gears, and it wasn't the prettiest shifter around. However, with it's super simple design, all metal construction, it was very easy to mod and make it the perfect shifter, with the perfect resistance feel, and upgraded look.

I'm waiting on the new 7spd shifter for the t500rs. It should be seriously sweet once it's out. Tom-ISR said it felt like the best shifter on the market possibly (no idea what shifters hes comparing it to tho)

Will this work with a G27? Hooked to a PS3?

This is what the company just e-mailed me. Looks like a pin re assignment is needed in the plug.

no unless you are technical savvy enough to route our shifter connection to your G27, we can only provide our pin assignment.

Hi Timothy,

Attached please find the manual that describes how the shifter is connected to the USb adapter. there should be enough info about the pin assignment.

If you can provide info of how our shifter can replace G27 shifter on internet, please let me have the link.

Thanks in advance.

These are the directions or the usb adapter. So I don't know if this would help with pin assignment or not. He is claiming it will. So if anyone has done or is willing to try let us know if it works or has worked and if it would be easy enough for a novice.

I using Frex H-shift TypeG (beside the H-shifter is Frex HandB+),
g27hb2.jpg

Full Metal build, adjustable stiffness & shift stick length.Click feel is wonderful, but extremely pricy. Considering add a sequential shifter beside the H-shifter, solder it on the PCB of six-axis game pad, so 3 shifter(paddle +H+ sequential ) can work anytime !
