Really need help with buttkicker

Hey I am new to gtplanet but have been playing gt for years. I am not very tech savvy and need some help getting the audio to work on the buttkicker gamer2. I do not have any type of 5.1 and just want to hook direct to the tv. The tv has an audio in (for headphones I guess) and the normal rca ports. The ps3 is hooked through HDMI and I do not have a clue on how to get this thing working. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
 
I can maybe help a little, my set up is the same but my tech knowledge is close to null so excuse the explanations.

First on the ps3 you have to change the audio settings to multi audio-output

Keep the HDMI connected.

Use the PS3 RCA cables and connect the yellow and white to your tv, and the red connected to the y cable that came with the buttkicker which then connects to the red on your tv.

The other end of the y splitter should connect to the black cable that then goes to the amplifier and into input.

Your buttkicker should work with those settings I'm pretty sure. If you don't notice anything make sure the light is green and try turning the volume up.

You won't need to connect the Yellow RCA jack to your T.V. it's the video feed and you're already feeding Video and Sound to your T.V. with the HDMI cable.

What you need to do is get sound to your Buttkicker. Do what McFizzle said and connect your PS3 RCA cables to your PS3. Then in the XMB menu go to Settings, Audio and enable Multiple Audio Output.

Once you have that done you can connect the Red or the White directly to you Buttkicker and it should work. Problem is you'll only be getting sound from either the left or right channel. You can get a two female RCA into one male RCA adapter so you can plug the Red & White cables into the adapter and then plug the adapter into your Buttkicker.

Before I got a second Buttkicker, that's how I had mine setup and it Kicked my Butt ;)

If you are not happy with the results you can use an FMod in line filter from Parts Express to restrict the frequencies reaching your amp. You can test the effectiveness of the amp filter by downloading subwoofer test tones onto your PS3.

Remember to switch off the music in the game while racing and raise the sound effects level from 90 to 120.

If I'm not mistaken the Buttkicker amps have built in filters that take care of that for you. Some of them can switch the cutoff frequency as well.

I had a ButtKicker Gamer but have upgraded to the Buttkicker Wireless product, so I'm not overly familiar with the Gamer 2 settings and how they react with GT5 and/or other games.

But, it's going to be a matter of personal preference. Try running a reasonably tame street car, then an American street car with a V8, then a race car of some sort. You should feel the differences in vibration and intensity between the cars. Also, try to notice any extra rumbling you may get from in Game menu options etc.

Now change the High to On or Off (depending on what it was at before) and try the same set of cars. See how it feels, which you prefer and go with it. It really is going to be a matter of personal preference.

The Buttkickers were the biggest bang for the buck for me, in terms of immersion, I've done. So much more like driving now :)

There is a volume control and a knob for Hz.

I'll try to find some documentation on how they interact.

But it seems to me the Hz dial would be the cutoff frequency the amp will respond to. Anything higher frequency would be essentially ignored.
 
You can test how well the Hz are being cutoff using subwoofer test tones - it's just a guy saying 20Hz, 25Hz etc etc and you get a short period of that Hz test tone.

Some amps filters let a lot of higher frequencies bleed through even when set low so with some transducers you get audible sound like a very poor quality loudspeaker. If you get this problem try FMod inline filter.

As already said some cars in GT5 have a huge amount of vibration - especially the Mercedes Benz V8's and the Audi R8 V8. Many of the cars have very little engine vibration - hopefully this might be improved in GT6, but it might be made worse - have to wait and see.
 
The adapter came today and I was able to try it out. It's really nice to now feel the rumble strips on boths sides of the track. Works really great. Thanks for the recommendation, it makes an awesome device even better.

You got me curious, just ordered the FMOD's. Will report back when I receive them. Likely next week some time.
 
I'm interested about these FMOD's myself, please report back how they turn out.
I've ten different types of bass shakers and a 1500w sub-woofer in my rig. I've only recently discovered EQ it was a B'day present from Mr Latte. Unfortunately I won't be ordering any this close to Christmas, but those FMOD's could be ordered if they do a good enough job cutting out the higher frequencies.

I'd a look on parts express and was surprised myself. It's a real shame we don't have shop/site similar here in the UK as the time scale is 2-3 weeks then import duty to pay as well.
I got my first aura pro's from them and was very happy. Those combined with the EQ are actually great performers and I'll be doing more testing/experimenting. ATM I've two bk mini's and two Aura Pro's combined with the EQ and 1 into 4 audio splitter amplifier on the pedals, but I think I'll change the BK's for two spare AP's I have and see how they work.
I find tactile to be addictive lol it's good to try different set ups to see what works best.

I get far less music and menu navigation sounds, but I also get less road noise.

This is just my first impression, as I said I only did a couple of laps and it was in a Kart. I have a Kart race tonight and some practice on Thursday in full size cars. I can elaborate on the experience more then.

Sounds very promising mate. For the price I think I'll just go ahead and order a bunch lol Maybe the 60HZ one's myself
 
I've still not been in a full sized car yet. Hopefully tonight.

I'm not sure about the 60Hz ones, seems super low. I'm old enough I don't think I can hear 60 Hz anymore :lol:

Would be an interesting experiment though.

Yes I have, and sorry for the delay responding. I can't notice any difference in 'feel' when driving.

As I said, there was a drop in the menu, music etc. sounds, but you still do get the ButtKicker reacting when navigating and let's face it, when the frequency of the sound generated is below 100 Hz, it should react.
