Really thinking of getting a wheel now!

Expensive.

Not true. They're really no more expensive than a G27. Actually you can get the CSR bundle (wheel, pedals, and shifter) for $250. That's less than a brand new G27.

Plus, it's worth it. Not that logitech sucks, they make good stuff, but Fanatec not only has more things you can add on, and the elite works with all platforms (PS3, xbox 360, PC), but the force feedback is much better. It uses 3 FFB motors, no 2, and it uses a belt drive instead of gears. So not only is the force feedback more realistic, and smooth, but it's quiter as well.

Not to mention the clubsport pedals that you can add on. Those are incredible. They're amazing pedals, and most importantly is the brake pedal. It's not only doesn't have the deadzone issues that the G27 or dfgt pedals, but the brake pedal actually vibrates, especially when you lock up the brakes. I can't tell you how crucial that is if you race with ABS off.

Driving with ABS off in GT5 with a G27 or DFGT is possible, but it certainly is not easy. Frankly it's unnaturally difficult.

I have a DFGT now, but there's no question, if I buy a wheel with a clutch and shifter, it's gonna be a Fanatec.

The Elite bundle is only 250 like I said, that's a steal for a wheel that works on ps3 xbox, and PC, has a better pedal set, and better force feedback than a G27

But like I said, logitech still makes great stuff, but fanatec is just a little better

Thanks for the input. I have been thinking about a Fanatac, but just didnt see a lot of info on them. I dont mind spending the money if its a good product, which it sounds like it is and I like the ability for it to work on x-box should I ever go that route.

G27 is indeed well worth it...

Never going back to DS3. :sly:

I have no desire ever to use a ds3 with gt5, love my g27 too.

if I didn't have this wheel anymore I would be buying another. Gt5 with a good wheel compared to the ds3 is completely new

Right then well I set up the wheel this evening on a temporary stand and OMG it's amazing.

The game is completely different with a wheel. The game comes to life, when you watch the dials and apply more braking force or acceleration the car responds perfectly. The feedback is awesome and it really does feel like they put so much effort into combining this hardware with GT5.

Suddenly I want to try racing every car, it's truly epic. I've always loved GT5 but honestly this experience is one of the best gaming experiences I've had and I've been around since the ZX Spectrum days!

I hope they continue to support GT5 and bring more content. I feel they really have got the physics right now. I also use a pair of Turtle Beach PX5 Wireless Surround Headphones and have noticed a lot of the sounds are much better now, although I personally think some of the engine sounds cannot be fully appreciated unless you have a really good surround system :)

Also does anyone know the dimensions of the standard Playseat when folded up? I'm ready to order one but want to know if I can put it into my cupboard.

I wonder why I do not read this more often but fact is:
The G25/G27 and T500 are good wheels, but I would go for a fantec wheel because only with a fantec wheel you can adjust the degrees of rotation of steering in GT5.

I bought a G27 for the H-Shift, 3 pedals and the nice Paddle shifters. But I mainly use 2 pedals and the paddle shifters. The H-Shift is OK but you are obviously faster with the paddle shifters.

=> Porsche 911 GT3 RS Wheel Turning angle can be adjusted in the wheel to 90° to 900° in steps of 10° independent from the game (NEW)

this "independent from the game" is very important. so you can change on the fly (while actually racing) the degrees of rotation and so you can easily find the right setup for your personal taste.
If you want to drift with the G27, I can tell you by experience, the G27 does not turn back fast enough because of this 900°...
When racing with the formula GT for example, you can not correct the oversteer fast enough with the G27...

I do not know if this is possible with all the fantec wheels, so watch out.

I'm a massive GT5 fan and am really pleased with all the updates and most notably the recent physics changes (2.06) and now sound improvements (2.07).

I think it's now worth me investing in a wheel and seat but I wanted to get some opinions of different wheels and seats as the prices do vary.

I'm thinking of either a G27 or Driving Force GT and for a seat maybe a Playseat. I'm considering the Playseat because it's practical to pack away but I've also heard it's not the strongest seat out there for the money.

If anyone has any recommendations for a setup please let me know.

Cheers

Wheels add alot when playing this game.

Alot of people will tell you one wheel is better than the other.
The DFGT is usually the cheapest.

But remember it is the official wheel of the game and it is certainly not 'slower' than another wheel

I got a G27 in March, playing GT5 with ALL assists and HUD off is just insanely good fun. Try a stock F40 or NSX-R at Spa or the 'ring in the dark, it's perfect. It's a shame that you can't adjust the steering angle because fast drifting is impossible for me, but I can drift in a number of PC sims with it. That sucks, though, because my favourite drift cars are all in GT5! Also using the H-shifter and clutch slows you down by a surprising amount so I tend to use the paddles if I'm trying to win, otherwise I'm joyriding with the shifter.

I have the DFGT and I love it, I would definatly upgrade if I have the money, still need to practise more with my wheel, pretty crap on it compared to my controller ability lol

It's great isn't it? What car do you want to drift? If you friend me on psn Mikeonthebike81 and send me a car I will slap a tune on it that'll make it g27 drift friendly and send it back, it still takes practice and skill but a good tune will help you a LOT

Yes to all of these. Honestly the best experience I've had gaming.

am i the only one that uses the T500RS? I think it's a great wheel.

There are a lot of us using the T500 around here. It is indeed a great, albeit a little unreliable, wheel. A few weeks back I played with my G27 that my brother is now using and it was a shock to the system.

the F40 is miles, miles better with a wheel than with a ds3. It's one of the very few cars that's a whole different experience.

and about wheels, current top notch wheels are better than the dfgt, g25 and g27. Thing is those do the job flawlessly, are available almost everywhere and are a steal for what you get. Also it's quite handy that those are by far the most used ones.

DFGT is a good wheel, but the shifting buttons gave me pain when playing F1 2010. Proper shifting paddles are a must for F1 games. The G27's pedals completely transformed my feel for braking and acceleration as well, compared to my old DFGT.

Depends, IMO the DFGT is the best deal for the buck, if your super serious get the G27..
I myself go ta DFGT brand new for 25$ at a yard sale XD ha

Do you mean the G27 was really good or really bad compared to the T500?
