Rebounding from GT5 to Shift 2? Be Careful ...

We've all seen some or the other problem with GT5 and with Shift 2 right around the corner, it looks as if its just on cue to pick up all the jilted lovers of the GT franchise.

Keep in mind that it is after all EA's game so any foregone conclusion that it will be a de facto good game is premature. Just be careful about buying it blindly.

I'm keeping an eye for it, but gonna check the reviews first. It was amazing how IGN hit the nail on the head with GT5's review (10/10 sim, 5/10 game). I disagreed at first, but have grudgingly come to agree with it.

I'll get it. If I want to play a smooth driving Simulation I will play GT5.
If I want a dirty racing simulation I'll play Shift. It's nothing wrong with owning both games. They have both pro's and con's. But everyone should give other racers a try.
I am open to everything. And since I can play all others games too why not enjoy the full spectrum? :)

I wish SimBin could make a PS3 simulation and take away the FIA GT cars from EA. Nothing against them but I dont want to play a 'game' with race cars.

Why? Pretty much all the SimBin talent is already making Shift 2, the rest spent the last couple of years running SimBin into insolvency.

Take a look at RacePro... great sim, some modern tweaking and it would be my favourite racer on the console.

SimBin are a great company and I hope they could make a Race Pro like game for PS3.

Well said!

Did that really need to be said? That's true of any game.

If people have confidence that they're going to enjoy the game, they should just buy it. If they're unsure, they should wait for reviews or until they can rent it and try for themselves.

That's not exactly unique to the Shift 2 situation.

nope TDU2 i was really after, ehard reviews gave up.
hopefully though shift 2 will have better wheel support than tdu2. which as far as insidesimracing says it should have.
so ill probably be getting it. just a case of when

My thoughts exactly!!!

Rebounding from GT5 to shift?

What about the many people who rebounded off GT4 to GT5. I bet they were shocked more TBH.

Meh, same with GT5 (most overhyped game ever, in my opinion) and a lot of other games.

Besides... Shift isn't an exclusive title, so, in the worst case, I'll return a 60$ game and get myself something else. Fable III or something.
It's not like I'd have to buy console specifically for Shift II, like I had to for GT5.

Rebounding from GT5 to Shift 2? Be Careful ...

...you might actually have some fun and then... when you realize it... who knows you might buy Forza next...

Don't have a 360 :indiff:
Maybe next generation, Microsoft is the way. I'll probably be burned out by games by that point.

I'm definately buying it because GT5 doesn't have Bathurst. That is the biggest and almost only reason for me buying Shift 2... I'm sure I'll like everything else too though, as other have said GT5 is great but I only ever just get in cars and do time trials, as its not fun in other aspects for me...

Let's put it this way... If Shift Unleashed is 5/10 sim, and 10/10 game, that makes it EQUAL with GT5. (GT5 was 10/10 sim, 5/10 game)

Personally, I am expecting it to be 8/10 sim, 10/10 game (OK, 9/10 because there's no perfect game!). That still makes it better than GT5, in my book.

Sound will be better, AI will be better, immersion will be better (because Shift 1 ALREADY was better in those areas), track selection IMO is better. Even if the physics isn't QUITE as refined as GT5's, the other aspects will make it the better GAME.

Shift 1 was pathetic. Seem like some are going to make a huge mistake. Lets hope they actually finish making the game into something that even works.

IGN IMO is the worst place to get reveiws. Reveiwers in genreal i do not agree with. HTey ahve a job to do and that is to get through the game as quickly as they can so they can go on to the next reveiw which i feel is different than what the average gamer tries to do and thats enjoy the games I feel most ( 80%) of reveiwers are all jaded or just looking for a buck these days thats just my 2 cents

Fanboy's tend not to agree with IGN (especially PS3 one's) My experience from Gamers and friends is that those that dont have brand loyalty often look at reviews from IGN and agree with them the majority of the time.

Shift was not pathetic (although your trolling here approaches it). Game worked fine on my system. Shift 1 was twice the game that GT5 is. Shift 2 looks even better.

GT5 has physics and the Ring. That's IT, chum...

Shift had everything ELSE. Shift 2 shows a lot of promise that its physics, if not as good as GT5, is going to be a LOT better than it was, and, even if its Ring isn't as good, it has twice as many real world tracks as GT5. And far more race cars (only seven RM cars...? really?) including licensed GT1/3 cars from last year's series (not last century's series!)

But don't let me stop you from going back to the GT5 forum. Everybody LOVES the game back there! :sly:

I've blown 60 bucks in a lot worse ways. I'll get it for the tracks and cars alone. I'm burnt out on GT5 at the moment. I keep hoping PD will give us some new premiums and some of the classic tracks in an update, heck, I'd pay for a decent DLC.

it can be worse than gt5.

It's hard to believe how... SMS would have to take just about every single element that was ALREADY better than GT5 in the original Shift, and drop it.

I doubt we are going to see them take that big a page out of the PD gamebook!

Hmmm now Im getting worried... because it has been done before - just look at what PD did from GT4 to GT5

Honestly, I don't think there was enough weed left over from PD's 'development' of GT5 for another developer to do that kind of stuff, too.

About the review websites. Sure, they try to get though games quickly and I've disagreed with them on many games but most of the time they are spot on. Early in my ownership of the PS3, IGN totally ripped into LAIR(Dragon game). I got it to see what the fuss was and I liked it initially and disagreed with the review but after a few days I understood why the game was scored so low.

They proved it with the GT5 review and because of that I've held off buying KZ3(And the fact I can't stand the ISA, Sev and Rico).

I tend to disagree with them when they over rate games (COD:MW2, KZ2, Halo, God of War, Gears of War etc.) but they've started to cut down on that too.

Anyway off topic, but aside from Shift 2 I don't see any good racing game coming anytime soon. This is just like when I was waiting for YEARS to get a decent football game. Thankfully got it with FIFA 10.

Dirt 3. 24 May 2011.

Forza 4. Q3 2011.

F1 2011. Q3/Q4 2011.

It's not exactly like there's nothing to look forward to this year.

Like I said earlier, no X360 so no Forza for me and besides Dirt is focused on rally so it's a bit too specialized for my taste. Same with F1, a bit too specialized.
