On a side note, I totally forgot about Metro 2033. It came out right about the time Medal of Honor and BF2 came out. Those two games distracted me from this one. I got on steam today and bought Metro 2033 for $4.99. Should be fun and at a price I couldn't beat. :)

Ok so the Just Cause 2 demo was tragic. At a rough guess I'd say 6 to 8 fps.
The opening sequence was some woman talking. Well she said what she had to say quite clearly, then over the next 10 minutes or so her CGI character mouthed each word very slowly while (I guess it was) my character walked around her very slowly and jerkily.

Definitely in trouble graphically :D

Maybe try running MSI afterburner while you try it again and see if your graphics card is running at 99% while your playing it. That would help let you know if a GPU upgrade would help. If the GPU isn't hitting in the high 90s then it could be something besides the graphics card that's holding you back.

This won't tell you for certain in every case. Sometimes I have my cards slow down into the 40s or 50s and the game slows down, but i don't think my cpu or ram is getting in the way, I think it's just the game having an issue every so often. If it's happening the whole time though then it's probably not the GPU that's your only problem.

It's definitely the graphics card.

edit: If it wasn't clear my previous post was in relation to the 6850 1GB vs 2GB, and not your current card.

Arrived this morning :D

Gonna wait until later though before I install it as I have 3 young boys in the house until about 7pm, there's no way I'll get the time needed to do it properly until then.
Very exciting indeed.

Metro 2033 only starts kicking in, when you run on DX11 + max settings and 2560x1600.
I run all on max and my system can just handle it with all 3 GPU on max power.

The CoD games are usually the best choice, because they run with good settings even on low spec systems.

It is time.

I'll just note that I'm not really a technically-minded person at all even with simple things like this. So if you don't hear from me you'll know I've somehow, incredibly, against all odds, managed to blow myself up installing a graphics card :nervous:

Well I'm not going to install that any time soon. :indiff:

Opened the box and found a big "WARNING!" inside. Reading on it tells me I must connect the GPU to the power supply (PS from here on) of my PC.
Now there is just a big bunch of wires coming out of my PS, with a variety of different shaped pin-plugs here and there.

The "WARNING!" had a picture flow-chart showing the graphics card being connected to the PS, but it only shows one connection, although there are two slots on the GPU for power. Do I connect them both? Which random pin-plugs in my PC are the right ones to connect? One of the plugs (coming out of the PS) says "PC" on it, the other says "PF" (I think - I've just put the screws back in, pretty sure it said PF). What are these?

Why couldn't the GPU instructions just tell me exactly what plugs to put where???
I hate this guessing game nonsense :grumpy:

EDIT: just watched a tutorial on YouTube. Guy already had 2 cables the same size coming from his PS that plugged straight into his new GPU.

Oh the despair. Why is it never easy? :(

Double EDIT: I don't think I have enough power cables to accommodate this 6870.
There's two cables supplied with the GPU, which perfectly fit the aforementioned "PC" plug. I'm pretty sure that would be to connect to the 6870. But I need two of said PC plugs coming from my PS.

Can I have another added, or is it new computer time?

Closing this to be more specific. I need help with the GPU, not the game choice.
