They're not high. I just don't consider an old 'Vette running high 13's, or low 14's, fast. It's not slow, but it's not fast. It was fast back in the '60's, but it's not fast now.

I never said a 3rd gen. RX-7 isn't too fast for a newbie driver. I said it was too much for a first time driver, but it's still weak.

The "feeling" of riding in one? Then I guess Mustangs are fast too just because they have 300+ft/lb tq., and they "feel" fast.

The thing you're missing is that those "original" times were posted on skinny bias-ply tires with almost no traction.

Run one now on modern tires - even a stock one - and deduct at least 2 seconds per 1/4 mile time. Honestly.
 
12's then? Like I said earlier...that was impressive during its time, but not now. Maybe you people who drive around in 16-17 second cars find that to be fast, but I don't.
 
So... what automotive rocket do you drive around in? And what will it pull, stock?
 
For the time being I'm driving the GS300.

The T/A would probably run mid 13's stock, and mid to low 12's with the 150 shot on street tires. The motor's toast, though. Right now we're rebuilding it with stronger internals to support a 200+ shot. In a few months I may do a mild heads/cam package.

Will a mild heads/cam Trans Am WS6 with a 200, or larger, shot of nitrous be fast? Sure, but not fast enough.;)
Did I consider the T/A to be fast when it was stock + 150 shot? No. Quick? Maybe, but not fast.


Go ahead and say it people..."Nitrous is gay...it's cheating...bottles are for babies..." blah blah blah!

Yes, I believe the feeling of riding in one will contribute more to the car being ballsy. I wasnt saying because an old vette feels raw it is faster, I said it contributes more to its ballsyness.

Kind of like my e30 M3. Look at specs and its not quick. An ITR is quicker in the 1/4. But drive the ****er hard and it has major balls. The low amount of sound deadening, buzzy raw f1 derived high-revving 4-cylinder, and sweet exhaust note make it have more balls than something of today that may be quicker, IMO. Torque also may have something to do with it, because of course torque makes a car feel faster, which would contribute to the experience of riding in one.
 
Hey JDMtypeR, try using Red Line Oil products ..they're excellent. Plus they will out outperform AND OUTLAST factory or "normal" products (oil, brake fluid ,trans fluid,..etc.).
As far as the intake ,try AEM's new V2 intake. It's got a dual-diameter design (a big one reducing to a smaller one) it's the BEST on the market! Also, I reccomend the BOSCH Platinum+2 spark plugs. They expose the flame"kernel" to the air-fuel mixture for a better burn= more power& mileage!

Yes they did have 560hp **** wit. The top of the line race bred one did, but most have 435 hp.

Actually the GS300 is slower than that. It's a 4-door family car with a 220hp I6 that I used to use to drive to school, and back. It's not a god damn 550hp race car.:rolleyes:

Look how much more hp the Vette has over those other cars.:lol: Anywhere from 110-250. A new 390hp SVT Cobra w/slicks would beat the Vettes times no problem. On street tires it's only .1 off.

I like how the Vette is a full second faster than a stock S2000, and it has 310hp more.

Go and pick up speed parts for the european v8s or japanese 4s/6s and WASTE (yes, waste) a fortune. now get 2500 dollars and buy some speed parts for a 350 chevy. get 11s easy and cheap. yeah, they might not be the best engines in the world, but they are cheap and can be turned into monsters... if you dont dig them, you must have a lot of money my friend.

Why would I want an American V8 when I already have one?:rolleyes: I've had 1 LT1 Z28, 1 LS1 Z28, and now an LT1 Trans Am. I'm not arguing about V8's here...

A 9 second street car isn't weak...unless I were to compare it to the 1,800hp streetable Chevelle I got to ride in once.;)

Yeah, thats the only advantage the vette has over them. Old tyres, 4 speed g/box, no traction control, 1960s technology.
Considering the Vanquish has more power than the vette, SVT and M5 lack 35hp, the vette does very good.

I can't believe you'd try to call the 4 speed, and lack of traction control a disadvantage.:rolleyes: I can show you a car running 8's on a 2 speed. Traction control adds brakes and decreases power to the wheels when the car senses the tires spinning...thus slowing the car down.

And I can give you links which say high 13's. Does that prove YOU wrong? No.:rolleyes:
