Red Bull Formula 1 trophies stolen in Milton Keynes factory raid. (BBC).

It's hard to imagine that these have much value except to a steal-to-order collector, they're certainly no good on the open market and intrinsic value (as pointed out later in the article) is low.

More than 60 trophies won by Red Bull Racing have been stolen from the Formula 1 team's Milton Keynes factory after a 4x4 drove through the entrance.

Six men used the vehicle to gain access to the site in Bradbourne Drive, Tilbrook, about 01:30 GMT.

Team principal Christian Horner said they were "devastated" by the break in as the trophies "took years and hard work to accumulate".

Night staff working at the site were not harmed, Thames Valley Police said.

Smash & grab GTA V style. Really though, if this whole robbery is for real and not an elaborate prank these guys are so pro. I while back I believe there was a diamond robbery in London or somewhere, guys got away I believe. Anybody remember that?

Not worth it really, not for all that effort. My guess is still theft-to-order, they can't go on eBay.

I'm surprised at how little security there is. Must be stolen to order because there is little value in the metals they are made out off and you would never be able to sell them on the open market.

They were the constructors trophies right? Not the drivers ones? Seeing as most were won in the past few years they should be in theory easy to reproduce again by the respective manufacturers, I'm sure they keep spares made for every race incase something like this happens.

McLaren keep the driver trophies and give the drivers a replica, I don't know if Red Bull do the same... if so then maybe there were driver trophies there too.
 
Apparently most of them are replicas anyway.

Kinda annoying though, these people have ruined RBR's open relationship with the public.
 
Yeah the theory is that this was a theft by order plot, and so some rich person (this next part is a joke) maybe a sheik that couldn't ever get into F1 (cause lotus wasn't around when he was young enough) hired them. The fact that they were driving decent vehicles from the account is also questionable. Strange stuff.

Supposedly a 4x4 and possibly a Mercedes estate, both on "foreign" plates. Bearing in mind that the witness is from Milton Keynes this could mean the cars were from anywhere.

From what I know of security cameras I don't think they're heavy enough (or generally mounted low enough) to deflect a 4x4 at speed.

I knew Vettel was mad about not winning this year but I didn't know he was THAT mad
 
Thank you @Pezzarinho17 I knew it was this sinister man but your article confirmed it...

The year was 2014, after years of trying to live his dream and being noted as one of the grestest drivers ever and one of limited numbers from his country. He decided to steal his winning carlin trouphy and the obvious F1 trophies of the company he should have driven for, during the same time he raced at a certain Hispana Racing...

This man is, none other than Narain Karthikeyan, he clearly did this. The Carlin connection, the obvious RBR connection. I mean Narain drove at Williams with Mark and clearly after the years felt he was the one that should have got the RBR drive...oh my, I've cracked the case Watson.
 
I thought this was a silly joke when I saw it in my Twitter feed, since Vettel won so many of them for Red Bull (and vis-a-vis), but then left for Ferrari.

Strange world of thieves we live in.
 
I think it's strange to hear RBR react to this with negative impact on "openness to public". This is an F1 team after all, and you're telling me the engineers can't come up with an elegant solution that doesn't detract from its openness but can discourage an attempt to do the obvious thing we've seen in dozens of movies (drive heavy vehicle through front door)?

Retractable steel pistons come to mind of course, or what about a shiny metal sculpture garden that neatly doubles as hedgehogs to prevent vehicles just rolling right through into the building? I dunno. Guessing they want an open area where they can drive their F1 cars however they like for publicity... but that brings me back to retractable pistons in the pavement surrounding the entrance.
