Red Bull RB12 "launch" - now with an actual RB12!

According to Christian Horner, the team did extensive research to see if the matte finish would compromise their lap times.

I wonder how much that cost them ...
 
Horner has said it'll definitely be slower than Toro Rosso for the first half of the year.

Couldn't they have just, say, swapped them around? I mean, you don't want your first team having a watch powering their car whilst your second has an engine.

I'm surprised Red Bull corporate didn't swap the teams around and give Toro Rosso the privilege to being the flagship after last year's performance, not to mention the fact Toro Rosso probably spent less to make their car work compared to Red Bull. I mean, I understand why they didn't, but still.
 
Matte it up, few tweaks to the text and logo and it's basically the same.

Am I the only person who strongly dislikes the lighter blue Red Bull liveries? I think it's a deeply unpleasant colour. Dark blues work much better.
 
That day would have to be in the past, honestly. Sponsors don't pay millions of dollars to be blended into a camo type livery for the whole season. I bet RB had a job even convincing them for testing.

I bet they didn't - just look at how many pictures/discussions populated the web in the following days. More than the current meh-fest, I'd wager :)

Perhaps, but how many of those people spotted the Rauch logos, for example? Without their distinct colours, it's lost.

It's not that hard to see the sponsors, the logos aren't exactly hidden or overly small. :lol: Only the Red Bull text blends in truly lol.

When you're looking for them, sure. There is a reason companies have brand colours and don't want to sway from them too much in advertising.
 
I'm not sure about the livery (not a fan of the yellow outline on the bull), but as always I'll wait to see it on track before passing final judgement. It doesn't seem to fit the Red Bull brand to me, all their products and adverts are flashy and bright while the new livery is dark and matte. Also, those driver suits look awful.
 
It's interesting that the Red Bull wording on the car is un-stroked while it appears "normally" on the driver overalls. I wonder if it's just a snafu in the vinyl printing?

Whatever, I guess this is another place-holder livery for the most part.

No, I'm pretty sure that Horner confirmed that this is the final livery. Why would they launch a test livery on an old car?

Toro Rosso are confirmed to be using an interim livery at the first test, mostly because the eleventh-hour engine deal delayed their design, which in turn meant that they couldn't get all of the bits painted and decals applied in time for the test.
 
Only issue is the neon red and yellow like color in matte that contrasts hard with the dark blue. I mean it's not bad it gets back to the original livery we saw with RBR
 
It's the red over the blue above the Rausch logo that bothers me - it looks dirty - but I suspect that it's a by-product of the lighting rather than a conscious design choice:

I think that I have figured out why it's bothering people - the red used for the Total logo and the red used for the Red Bull logos are of a different shade to one another.
 
I think it looks absolutely stunning. I love the yellow outline of the bull instead of the white.

When I first saw this posted on Facebook, pretty much all of the comments were saying a like it is to the previous Red Bull cars, apart from the few years of Infiniti with the purple, this is the biggest change we've seen since the introduction of the Red Bull liveries.

What :odd:, I don't think many people care about different shades of the same colour. Especially when these 2 shades are rather similar.

I honestly like it myself, it says more of what the team is IMO, and I honestly think the colour's blend well.

People are complaining about the livery. What's wrong with trying to figure out why? Sure, the shades are similar, but they're distinct enough to be distracting.

I should have been more specific - I was thinking of the sidepods rather than the overall car. I wonder if they're hoping that there'll be someone else on there by Australia.

As for the awful camo overalls, I read this morning that Red Bull are calling them "stampede camouflage".

I doubt it. Red Bull liveries have always carried the Red Bull name. And I can't think of any likely suspects to fill the void left by Infiniti.

There is nothing wrong with trying to figure out why but no one in their right mind (minus a few) complain about different shades of red :rolleyes: Why not point out things people might actually hate about liveries in general rarely anyone hates liverys because of multiple shadings. This assumption is absurd.
 
As has been well-documented in recent days, I do not perceive certain colours - including red - in the same way as most people. Part of this means that I have a unique sensitivity to red light; I can consciously detect subtle changes that you are not aware of and I can even see beyond the visible spectrum of light. Because of the unique properties of red light (for example, Ferrari's rosso corsa is blood red so that it appears as intended on your television screen), you only subconsciously detect the full difference.
