This is actually a prequel to the other two movies, and for anyone that reads, the Red Dragon was one of the best (and scariest) books I've ever read.
Even with Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel and Ralph Fiennes I don't know if it's going to live up to it's potential.
It was actually made into a movie already several years ago called Manhunter (later renamed to Red Dragon: The search for Hannibal Lechter) This movie wasn't all that great though, and made too many changes to the original text.
I am looking forward to this movie though... Got to love a Good Thomas Harris Movie (He aslo wrote Black Sunday)
It was a very good book; I read it a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot.
What I don't understand is that they are really playing up the Hannibal Lechter angle (they did on the cover of the paperback, too) when he is actually a very minor character in the story.
This movie is pretty great, I just saw it. I'd suggest it to pretty much anyone. It left out the gore that Hannibal had, and went back to the stronger roots created in Silence of the Lambs. Suspense is always better than gore IMO. (and scarier too.)
